Anthony Zechella, founded Luigi's Restaurant

As a restaurateur and chef, Anthony Zechella helped change the restaurant scene i n Campbell County.

Mr. Zechella, 79, died Thursday at his home in Taylor Mill.

Mr. Zechella opened Luigi's Restaurant in Cold Spring with his brothers, Lou and Jim Zechella, and father, Louis, in the 1940s.

The restaurant was named for the elder Zechella and operated as a family business.

After the elder Zechella retired and brothers Lou and Jim left for other pursuits, Tony and his wife, Helen, took over the family restaurant.

Helen worked the dining room and Tony prepared the fine Italian dinners.

As president of the Northern Kentucky Restaurant Association, Mr. Zechella was instrumental in helping to change the law to allow alcohol to be served in Campbell County restaurants on Sunday, said his brother, Lou Zechella of Alexandria.

The Zechellas later closed the restaurant and opened Luigi's Pizza on Alexandria Pike.

"As they got older, they closed that, and Tony became head chef at Summit Hills Country Club, " said Lou Zechella.

"He was crazy about cooking. He had books from all over. He was an excellent chef, " Lou Zechella said.

Anthony Zechella retired from Summit Hills about 10 years ago.

Mr. Zechella was a member of the Newport Elks and a Navy veteran of World War II.

His wife, Helen, died in 1996.

In addition to his brother Lou Zechella, other survivors include his sisters, Mildred Garrison of Fort Thomas, Rose Kathman of Fort Mitchell and Clara Zechella of Alexandria; and brother, Jim Zechella of Alexandria.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Therese Church, Southgate. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas.

Memorials are suggested to Redwood School, 71 Orphanage Rd., Covington, Ky. 41011.

Jean Burchfield, 65, of Dayton, died Thursday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas.

She was a food service director for the Dayton School Board and a member of VFW Post 1998 Ladies Auxiliary, Dayton.

Survivors include her husband, Charles Burchfield; sons, Chucky Burchfield and Danny Burchfield, both of Dayton; a daughter, Barbara Sutton of Norfolk, Va.; brothers, James McIntyre of Alexandria, Vernon McIntyre of Florence and Donald McIntyre and Robert McIntyre, both of Dayton; sisters, Margaret McIntyre and Mary Schwarberg, both of Dayton; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Bellevue. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill. Memorials are suggested to Erlanger Lions Club, 5996 Belair Dr., Florence, Ky. 41042.

Charleston Maddox Carpenter, of Burlington, was stillborn Friday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South in Edgewood.

Survivors include his parents, Chad and Sheila Carpenter of Burlington; brother, River M. Carpenter at home; grandparents, Ken and Trudy Rogers of Independence, Freddie and Connie Carpenter of West Liberty, and John and Mary Howard of Morehead; and great-grandparents, Mary Tewes of Crescent Springs, and Luther and Dulcene Carpenter and Charles and Evelyn Holbrook, all of West Liberty.

Services will be private for the family. There will be no visitation. Burial will be in Carpenter Family Cemetery, West Liberty.

Stith Funeral Home, Florence, is handling the arrangements.

John William Daelick, 78, of Elsmere, died Friday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.

He was a retired clerk for the U.S. Postal Service, a member of St. Henry Church, Elsmere, American Legion Post 20, Elsmere, and Disabled American Veterans. His wife, Ruth Rosella Daelick, died in 1983.

Survivors include a son, John V. Daelick of Casa Grande, Ariz.; two grandchildren and a great-grandson.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Henry Church, Elsmere. There will be no visitation. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger.

Memorials are suggested to St. Henry Church, 3813 Dixie Highway, Elsmere, Ky. 41018.

Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger, is handling arrangements.

Alma Adams Heis, 94, of Erlanger and formerly of Williamstown, died at 5:16 a.m. Friday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North Hospice Unit, Covington. She was a former inspector for Crown Overall Co. and a member of Elsmere Church of Christ. Her husband, William David Heis, died in 1980.

Survivors include a stepdaughter, Edith Heis of Elsmere; three grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Williamstown. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Williamstown Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to Elsmere Church of Christ, 124 Carlisle St., Elsmere, Ky. 41018.

Chad Allen Hesler, 20, of Brooksville, died Thursday at Meadowview Regional Medical Center, Maysville.

He was a machine operator at Meyer Tool, Cincinnati.

Survivors include his father, Chester Lee Hesler of Brooksville; his mother, Bessie Mae Polley Hesler Mattox of Brooksville; and a brother, Kevin L. Hesler of Brooksville.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Moore and Parker Funeral Home, Brooksville. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Bracken Memorial Cemetery, Brooksville.

Robert L. Kleisinger, 48, of Independence, died Friday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.

He was a retired fireman for the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport Fire Department and was a former employee of Harper Construction and Eaton Asphalt.

Survivors include his wife, Judy Scott Kleisinger of Independence; a daughter, Jennifer Lynn Kleisinger of Independence; a son, Adam Michael Kleisinger of Independence; his mother, Rachel Kleisinger of Independence; sisters, Theresa Kindoll of Independence, Alicia Alley of Covington, Cecilia Greenly of Petersburg and Rose Nicely, Angela Hester and Antonia Blueford, all of Edgewood; brothers, Donald Kleisinger of Independence, Mike Kleisinger of Brooksville, Fla., Paul Kleisinger of Florence, Ken Kleisinger of Taylor Mill and Albert Kleisinger and Lawrence Kleisinger, both of Erlanger.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul Church, Florence. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Monday at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Florence. Burial will be in Independence Cemetery.

Mae Lawson, 77, of Erlanger, died Friday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.

She was a homemaker and member of Erlanger United Methodist Church.

Survivors include sons, Bill Lawson of Crossville, Tenn., Floyd Ballard of Ludlow and Rick Ballard of Maineville, Ohio; a daughter, Jackie Smith of Orange Park, Fla.; 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Hebron Lutheran Cemetery.

Michael Joseph Martini, 39, of Fairfield, Ohio, died Thursday .

He was an assistant secretary at Cincinnati Financial Corp., Fairfield.

Survivors include his wife, Linda A. Martini of Fairfield; daughters, Rachel L. Martini and Nichole M. Martini, both at home; his father, Paul Joseph Martini of Newport; a brother, Paul W. Martini of Newport; sisters, Cathy L. Romito of Southgate and Sharon A. Griffith of Taylor Mill.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Church, Fairfield. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Avance Funeral Home, Fairfield.

Dorothy Wiedemann Mullins, 82, of Independence, died at 7:15 a.m. Thursday at Woodspoint Care Center, Florence.

She was a retired nurse's assistant for St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington. Her husband, William Mullins, died in 1990 and a daughter, Shirley Mae Marksberry, died in 1991.

Survivors include sons, Hank Mullins of Burlington and Bill Mullins of Independence; a daughter, Judy Cromer of Worthville; a sister, Alberta Alsip of Morning View; 17 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Taylor Mill. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of services Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.

Kenneth Jon Scott, 38, of Newport, died Thursday at his home.

He was a cook for the Phoenix Restaurant, Cincinnati.

Survivors include sisters, Mary Stafford of Addyston, Ohio, and Candy Lawson of LaGrange; and brothers, Ben Weigle of Hampton, Va., and James Weigle of Maineville, Ohio.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Mount Orab Cemetery, Mount Orab, Ohio. There will be no visitation.

Memorials are suggested to Linwood Faith Tabernacle Church, 4950 Eastern Ave., Cincinnati, Ohio 45208.

Cooper Funeral Home, Grants Lick, is handling the arrangements.

Rozella M. Solomon, 80, of Corinth, died Thursday at Woodspoint Care Center, Florence.

She was a homemaker. Her husband, James Solomon, died in 1998 and a son, James R. Solomon, died in 1988.

Survivors include daughters, Carol Barrett of Corinth and Rosalie Pierce of Cincinnati; seven grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at noon today in Gray Hawk Cemetery, McKee. There will be no visitation.

Rogers Funeral Home, Corinth, is handling the arrangements.

Ruth K. Williams, 75, of Walton, died at 1 a.m. Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include sons, Gary Cain of Covington, Dink Williams of Dry Ridge, Lewis D. Williams of Fort White, Fla., and Louis Cain of Walton; daughters, Barbara Bishop of Covington, Trudy Newman of Fort Mitchell and Eileen Haywood and Emma Vogt, both of Dry Ridge; sisters, Maggie Swanner of Missouri and Sarah Cain of Independence; 31 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at noon Monday at Catchen and Son Funeral Home, Covington. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.
