'Merkie' Sebastian loved working with kids

America Faye Sebastian loved kids and loved to have fun, qualities that helped he r as she touched the lives of scores of youngsters in the last 12 years.

Mrs. Sebastian - named after her grandmother, but known as "Merkie" to her friends - worked at St. Paul's Childcare in Newport.

"She was upbeat and funny, liked to joke around, and she loved those kids, " said her daughter, Nicole Doyle of Cincinnati. "She had pictures of them all over the place."

She was excited about the impending birth of Ms. Doyle's first child.

Mrs. Sebastian, 49, of Wilder, died Sunday at her home.

She went to Campbell County High School, took classes at Southern Ohio College and worked as a secretary for a while at a shopping mall operations office.

She was a member of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Fort Mitchell and was very devout, according to Ms. Doyle.

She loved to read, loved to sing with and dance to the radio, and loved shopping, her daughter said. "She'd get excited about shopping on the weekends."

She'll also be remembered for her generosity, according to her son, Craig Sebastian of Wilder. "She was really generous and giving."

In addition to her children, she is survived by her mother, Stella McIntosh of Grants Lick; brothers, Mitchell McIntosh of Claryville, Delbert McIntosh of Falmouth, Granville McIntosh of Texas, and Moses McIntosh and Darrell McIntosh, both of Alexandria; sisters, Sharon Sanders of Grants Lick and Helen Turner of Covington; and one grandchild.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Cooper Funeral Home, Grants Lick. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Grants Lick.

Paul B. Ashcraft, 71, of Lexington, formerly of Carrollton, died Monday at Vetera ns Administration Medical Center, Lexington.

He was a retired plumber, a member of Carrollton United Pentecostal Church, and a veteran of both the Air Force and Army.

Survivors include his wife, Julia Ashcraft; daughters, Tennie Ashcraft and Pam Mosher, both of Lexington, Sheila Stanhope of Sadieville and Julena Herrow of Sylvester, Ga.; sons, James Richard Ashcraft and Paul B. Ashcraft Jr., both of Lexington; sisters, Thelma Readnour of Covington, Norma Reed of Hodgensville, Maureen Duncan of Carrollton, Joyce Jones of Turners Station and Barbara Brassfield of Chicago; a brother, Charles Ashcraft of LaGrande, Ore.; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at United Pentecostal Church, Carrollton. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at Graham-Dunn Funeral Home, Carrollton, and from noon Thursday until the time of services at the church. Burial will be in English Cemetery.

Ellen M. Dees, 88, of Erlanger, Monday at Village Care Center in Erlanger.

She was an employee of R. A. Jones Co. and a member of Erlanger Baptist Church.

Survivors include sons, Charles William Dees of Burlington and Glenn Elbert Dees of Crestview Hills; daughters, Gladys Marie Barnett of Emporia, Kan., and Lillian Mae Rosati of Wilson, N.Y.; 20 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger.

Memorials are suggested to Erlanger Baptist Church, 116 Commonwealth Ave., Erlanger, Ky. 41018.

Truman Ellis Sr., 75, of Covington, died Tuesday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas.

Arrangements are pending at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Covington.

Thomas H. Hill, 92, of Latonia, died at 4:25 a.m. Wednesday at Rosedale Manor Nursing Home, Latonia.

Arrangements are pending at Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia.

Roy E. Kirby, 43, of Newport, died at 11:42 a.m. Sunday at his home.

He was a mover with Lee A1 Movers, Cincinnati.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Sicker Kirby; sons, William Kibry, Anthony Sicker and Gary Sicker, all of Newport; daughters, Tiffany Sicker and Tammy Sicker, both of Newport, and Sandy Alfonio of Cincinnati; his parents, Roy and Mary Kirby of Withamsville, Ohio; brothers, Steven Kirby of Indiana and Jeff Kirby of Norwood, Ohio; sisters, Debbie Kirby of Indiana, Melissa Kirby of Withamsville, and Tracy King of Burlington; and five grandchildren.

Services were this morning at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Newport. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate.

Memorials are suggested to the Roy Kirby Fund, in care of the funeral home, 835 York St., Newport, Ky. 41071.

Ollie Knox, 79, of Newport, died Monday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas.

She was a self-employed cook and a member of New Life Ministries, Newport.

Survivors include a daughter, Linda Hiles of Newport; a son, Kelly Knox of Independence; a brother, Jack Powell of Carrollton; sisters, Dorothy McClanahan of Bellevue, Martha Sims of Sparta and Gracie Bennett of Newport; and five grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Cooper Funeral Home, Grants Lick. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Lenoxburg Cemetery.

Marie Boh Krumpelman, 92, of Burlington, died Tuesday at Florence Park Care Center.< p> She was a homemaker and a member of St. Joseph Church, Crescent Springs. A daughter, Patricia Kathleen Krumpelman, preceded her in death.

Survivors include her husband, William Krumpelman; sons, Charles Krumpelman of Florence, Stanley Krumpelman and Kenneth Krumpelman, both of Villa Hills; daughters, Carol Noll of Villa Hills and Connie Milam of Cincinnati; brothers, George Boh of Boone County and Clarence Boh of Petersburg; a sister, Clara Vonderhaar of Cincinnati; 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 6:30 p.m. Friday at St. Joseph Church, Crescent Springs. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.

Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice.

Louis C. Myers, 72, of Butler, died Monday at Grant Manor, Williamstown. He was a retired factory worker with Butler Products Co.

Survivors include a brother, Lowell Myers of Dayton, Ohio; and sisters, Verna Payne of Butler and Shirley Baker of Celina, Ohio.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Matthews Church, Kenton County. Visitation will be from 8 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Peoples Funeral Home, Butler. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.

Margie Lou Neff, 77, of Independence, died Monday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence.

She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, Robert H. Neff; and sons, Steven L. Neff of Amelia, Ohio, and Anton R. Neff of Latonia.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mother of God Cemetery, Fort Wright.

Ann S. Oliver, 80, of Newport, died Saturday at Baptist Convalescent Center, Newport.

She was a personnel clerk with Provident Bank. Her husband, James C. Oliver, died in 1975.

Survivors include sons, James Oliver of Covington and Robert S. Oliver of Santa Fe, N.M.; a sister, Mildred Harris of Houston, Miss.; brothers, Robert Smith of Tupelo, Miss., and Roger Smith of Greenville, S.C.; and two grandchildren.

Memorial services will be at 6 p.m. Friday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Bellevue.

John Thomas Pribble Sr., 80, of Butler, died Monday at his home.

He was a retired carpenter, a member of Pleasant Hill Christian Church, and co-founder of the Falmouth Historical Society. He also was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II.

Survivors include sons, John Thomas Pribble Jr. of Fredricksburg, Va., and David Joseph Pribble of Gibsonton, Fla.; daughters, Dale Pribble Sullivan of Washington, D.C., and Paula Pribble Abilmona of Callo, Va.; stepsons, Phillip Hodge of London, Harley Hodge of Crittenden and Don Hodge of Alexandria; stepdaughters, Sheila Mullins of Butler, Frances Stephenson of Morning View, Phyllis Hubbard of London, Louise Browning of Falmouth and Yvonne Rednour of Lakeland, Fla.; a brother, David H. Pribble of Falmouth; a sister, Ruby Owen of Butler; four grandchildren, 21 stepgrandchildren and six stepgreat-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Pleasant Hill Christian Church. Visitation will begin there at noon Thursday. Burial will be in Butler Cemetery.

Rose Mary Race Rimer, 68, of Covington, died at 2:20 p.m. Saturday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas.

She was a homemaker and attended Goshen Christian Church, Piner. Her husband, Clyde M. Rimer, died in 1992. A son, Jerry Rimer, also preceded her in death.

Survivors include sons, David Rimer of Fairfield, Ohio, Robert Rimer of Taylor Mill and Steven Rimer of Columbus, Ohio; daughters, Tammy Howard and Carolyn Kirst, both of Covington; brothers, Raymond Race of Buffalo, N.Y., and Jake Race of Covington; sisters, Etta Mae Blackburne of Covington and Violet Lawson of Florence; 18 grandchildren and seven great- grandchildren.

Services were this morning at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Taylor Mill. Burial was in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.

Loraine Moore Rose, 65, of Grant County, died Thursday at her home.

She was a developer and former owner of Rose Gardens Resort KOA Kampground and a member of Smoky Mountain Hikers Club.

She also was a member of Hyde Park Community United Methodist Church in Cincinnati and Tellico Community Church in Loudon, Tenn. She was a Sunday school teacher and one of the founders of the nursery school program at the Hyde Park Church.

She also was a member of Central Kentucky Women's Club and Cincinnati Town Club.

Survivors include her husband, F. David Rose; sons, F. David Rose Jr. of Cincinnati and J. Paul Rose of Crittenden; brothers, Charles James Moore of Charleston, S.C., and Judge John Paul Moore of Winchester; a sister, Elaine Moore of Lexington; and two grandchildren.

Services were Monday at W. R. Milward Funeral Home, Lexington. Burial was in Lexington Cemetery.

Alma Edna Smith, 86, of Independence, died at 4:10 a.m. Monday at Lakeside Place Nursing Home, Highland Heights.

She was a homemaker and a member of Eggleston United Methodist Church, Erlanger. She was a Sunday school teacher with the church and a member of the United Methodist Women's Society.

Her husband, Rev. John L. Smith, died in 1997. A son, Wallace E. Smith, also preceded her in death.

Survivors include sons, Billy J. Smith of Rehoboth Beach, Del., Gene A. Smith of Florence, Rev. Larry P. Smith of Springfield, Ohio, John W. Smith and Dale A. Smith, both of Independence, and David S. Smith of Fort Wayne, Ind.; daughters, Anna Ruth Dumoi of Cincinnati and Allie Joyce Kapp of Fairfield, Ohio; 23 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Swindler and Currin Funeral Home, Independence. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, and from 10 a.m. Friday until the time of services at the funeral home. Burial will be in Independence Cemetery.

Howard F. Sullivan, 80, of Latonia, died at 12:55 a.m. Monday at Highlands of Fort Thomas Nursing Home.

He was a retired owner of Hollander Decorating Co., Covington and Latonia, and Associates Tax Service in Latonia. He also sold real estate.

He was a member of Holy Cross Church in Latonia, was a former member of the church council, and an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Agnes M. Sullivan; a daughter, Sylvia Ann Kremer of Covington; sons, Robert L. Sullivan of Mullimby, Australia, Richard B. Sullivan and Thomas L. Sullivan, both of Covington, and Jerry R. Sullivan of St. Petersburg, Fla.; and nine grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 9 a.m. Friday at Holy Cross Church, Latonia. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the church. Entombment will be in Mother of God Mausoleum, Fort Wright.

Rose Lee Thomas, 92, of Verona, died at 5:35 a.m. Saturday at St. Charles Care Center, Covington.

She was a homemaker. Her husband, Porter Thomas, died in 1999.

Survivors include a daughter, Geraldine Maltaner of Verona; a son, Richard Thomas of Farmers Branch, Texas; a sister, Georgia Capps of Lexington; seven grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Catherine L. Wagner, 87, of Cold Spring, died Monday at Florence Park Care Center.

She was a retired secretary with Cincinnati Financial Corp.

Survivors include a daughter, Carolyn Ament of Cold Spring; a brother, Joseph Wagner of Arizona; a sister, Mary Cramer of Newport; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Fares J. Radel Funeral Home, Newport. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate.
