Richard Wheelwright, traveler abroad

Richard "Dicky" Wheelwright was an Erlanger native who had wanderlust in his veins.

Mr. Wheelwright was an English teacher and parlayed his craft into jobs in England, Libya and other overseas countries.

'He saw something on the computer and thought he would like to work there, " said his brother, Arthur Wheelwright of Erlanger.

"If there was an opening, he would apply for it and get it."

Richard Wheelwright, 64, of Iowa City, Iowa, and formerly of Erlanger, died Wednesday at the University of Iowa Medical Center in Iowa City.

Mr. Wheelwright was a graduate of Lloyd Memorial High School in Erlanger and the University of Iowa. He returned to teach English at Lloyd High School and also taught at Dixie Heights High School in Edgewood.

Mr. Wheelwright had lived in Iowa for 30 years and enjoyed his work and travels, his brother said.

'He got to know Moammar Gadhafi of Libya. At one point, he was talking about writing a book about him, " Arthur Wheelwright said.

A memorial service will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Erlanger Christian Church. There will be no visitation. Burial will be in Spring Grove Cemetery, Cincinnati.

Memorials are suggested to Erlanger Christian Church, Graves Road, Erlanger, Ky. 41048.

Minnie Jane Clabrue, 92, of Carrollton, died at 1:50 p.m. Thursday at Carroll County Memorial Hospital, Carrollton.

She was a retired office clerk for Kentucky Utilities, a member of First Baptist Church, Carrollton, and member of Browinski Rebekah Lodge No. 60, Carrollton.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Graham-Dunn Funeral Home, Carrollton. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of services today at the funeral home. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery, Carrollton.

Brother Hansel Eason, 88, of Fort Pierce, Fla., and formerly of Williamstown, died Thursday in Fort Pierce.

He was a retired Christian minister and a member of the Southside Christian Church, Fort Pierce.

Survivors include his wife, Marietta Chipman Eason of Fort Pierce; and a sister, Thelma Godfrey of Indianapolis, Ind.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Williamstown. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the time of services at the funeral home. Burial will be in Williamstown Cemetery.

Mildred Flutmus, 73, of Fort Thomas, died at 9:20 a.m. Thursday at her home.

She was a retired nurse for St. Luke Hospital.

Survivors include her husband, George Flutmus of Fort Thomas; daughter, Kelly Schwartz of Dayton; son, Herb Flutmus of Bellevue; and five grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Therese Church, Southgate. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Burial will be in the Steele Family Cemetery, Beattyville.

William R. "Bill" Fritz, 78, of Maysville, died at 3:50 a.m. Friday at Meadowview Regional Medical Center, Maysville.

He was the owner/operator of Ye Old Dutch Inn, Maysville, and a member of VFW Post No. 2734, Maysville.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Ruth Fritz of Maysville; daughter, Kim Maddox of Lexington; sons, Greg Fritz, Jeff Fritz and Steve Fritz, all of Maysville; brother, Everett Fritz of Cocoa Beach, Fla.; sister, Alma Henson of Maysville; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at St. Patrick Church, Maysville. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Brell and Son Funeral Home, Maysville. Burial will be in St. Patrick Cemetery, Maysville.

Memorials are suggested to St. Patrick School, 318 Limestone St., Maysville, Ky. 41056.

Leland James, 65, of Bellevue, died at 3:05 p.m. Friday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas.

Arrangements are pending at Dobbling Funeral Home, Bellevue.

Catherine M. Lantry, 85, of Villa Hills, died at 12:51 p.m. Thursday at Madonna Manor, Villa Hills.

Survivors include her sisters, Rose Nienaber of Villa Hills and Mary Schomaker of Cincinnati.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday in the chapel at Madonna Manor. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of services Monday in the chapel. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.

Memorials are suggested to Madonna Manor, 2344 Amsterdam Rd., Villa Hills, Ky. 41017.

Don Catchen and Son Funeral Home, Elsmere-Erlanger, is handling arrangements.

James E. Lawson, 48, of Bellevue, died Wednesday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas.

He was a refrigeration technician with So-Low Environmental Equipment Co., Cincinnati, a member of Sacred Heart Church, Bellevue, and a member of the Army Reserve, Fort Thomas.

Survivors include his wife, Vicki Gubser Lawson of Bellevue; daughters, Holly Lawson and Stephanie Lawson, both of Bellevue; father, Ray Lawson of Bellevue; brothers, Carl Lawson of Bellevue and Raymond Lawson of Cincinnati; and a sister, Mary Ann Samples of London.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. today at Sacred Heart Church, Bellevue. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Wilder.

Memorials are suggested to American Heart Association, 2936 Vernon Place, Cincinnati, Ohio 45219.

Dobbling Funeral Home, Bellevue, is handling arrangements.

Michael A. Piccirillo Sr., 92, of Highland Heights, died at 9:55 a.m. Friday at his home.

He was a retired B & O Railroad yard foreman, a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and the South Newport Boosters.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Piccirillo of Highland Heights; daughters, Judy Palmisano of Winchester, Ohio, Annette Froendhoff of Southgate, and Sandy McFarland and PattyHamby, both of Fort Thomas; sons, Ronnie Piccirillo of Latonia, David Piccirillo of Alexandria and Michael Piccirillo Jr. of Cold Spring; brothers, Pete Piccirillo of Cincinnati and Joseph Piccirillo and John Piccirillo, both of Newport; sisters, Philomena Daniel of Erlanger and Caroline Buemi and Norma Snell, both of Newport; 21 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Church, Cold Spring. Prayers will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Newport. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Elizabeth White Poe, 77, of Augusta, died Thursday at Meadowview Regional Medical Center, Maysville.

She was a homemaker and member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Augusta.

Survivors include her son, Isom Sellers of Augusta; daughter, Ethel Poe of Augusta; sisters, Thelma Welte and Mary Sue Habermehl, both of Augusta; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

There will be no services or visitation. Cremation will be in Hillside Chapel, Cincinnati.

Moore and Parker Funeral Home, Augusta, is handling the arrangements.

Darrell R. Russell, 48, of Erlanger, died Wednesday at his home. He was a supervisor at a pizza factory.

Survivors include his sons, Tracey Russell of Erlanger, Kelly Russell of Florence and Ronnie Russell of Cincinnati; sisters, Rose Masur of Keany, Genetta Russell of Dayton and Loretta Russell of Cincinnati; brothers, Mike Russell and Bill Russell, both of Cincinnati; and a grandson.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Nurre Brothers Funeral Home, Cincinnati. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Spring Grove Cemetery, Cincinnati.

Helen L. Stephenson, 94, of Park Hills, died at 8:10 a.m. Thursday at Highlands of Fort Thomas. She was a homemaker. Her husband, C. Ralph Stephenson, died in 1993.

Survivors include her sisters, Hilda Gravett of Edgewood and Patricia Terlau of Latonia.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Highland cemetery Chapel, Fort Mitchell. There will be no visitation. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Northern Kentucky, 1403 Alexandria Pike, Fort Thomas, Ky. 41075.

Ruth Jane Tomlin, 74, of Falmouth, died Thursday at her home.

She was the former housing director for the Falmouth Housing Authority and a member of Southside Christian Church, Falmouth. Her husband, James H. Tomlin, died in 1972, and a son, Ricky Tomlin, preceded her in death.

Survivors include her sons, James Tomlin and Steve Tomlin, both of Falmouth; sisters, Shirley Flynn of Springdale, Ohio, and Nita Rolfes of Green Hills, Ohio; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Peoples Funeral Home, Falmouth. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until the time of services Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Falmouth.

Bill "Red" Williams, 77, of Cincinnati, died Thursday at his home.

He was a retired dental technician and an Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his daughters, Nancy Callahan of Florence and Barb Heck of Southgate; sister Betty Williams of Southgate; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Vorhis Funeral Home, Norwood, Ohio. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the time of services Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Spring Grove Cemetery, Cincinnati.
