Florence Saladin, Lakeside Park

Florence E. Saladin made each member of her family feel special.

Whether it was cooking, hosting family gatherings or playing with her grandchildren, Mrs. Saladin was an inspiration, said a daughter, Judith Haney of Hebron.

"She was a positive, nice, gentle person, " Mrs. Haney said. "The things that were most important to her were her church and her family."

Mrs. Saladin, 93, of Lakeside Park, died Tuesday at St. Charles Care Center in Covington. She was a retired billing clerk with the Kenton County Water Commission and a homemaker.

Mrs. Saladin was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church in Fort Mitchell. Her husband, John D. "Dave" Saladin, died in 1985. A son, John J. "Jack" Saladin, died in 1994. A daughter, Mary Joan Blair, died earlier this year.

"She was proud of her family, no matter what field they were in. Her world was her family. We had the best mother. That's who you wanted to be like when you grew up."

"She loved to go to family parties. She used to like to read and did a lot of cooking and whatever her family needed, " Mrs. Haney said.

Mrs. Saladin was a native of Northern Kentucky. She was a low-key person who had a gentle laugh and smile, her daughter said.

Other survivors include sons, Dr. Thomas Saladin of Lakeside Park, Capt. (ret.) Gerald Saladin of Moultrie, Ga., and David Michael Saladin of Hebron; 21 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Blessed Sacrament Church. Visitation will begin there at 10:30 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Memorials are suggested to St. Charles Care Center, 500 Farrell Drive, Covington, Ky. 41011; or the charity of the donor's choice. Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Covington, is handling arrangements.

Fenton Cain, 97, of Morning View, died Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was a retired teacher with Newport Elementary School, a member of First Baptist Church of Independence, and a Sunday

school teacher. Her husband, Thomas A. Cain, died in 1994. Sons, Thomas J. Cain and Richard B. Cain, died in 1969 and 1982.

Survivors include a son, David Cain of Plantation, Fla.; daughters, Karen Hubbs of Morning View and Esther Robbins of Taylor Mill; sisters, Carlie Lynch of Beattyville, Ollie Creech of Rock Hill, S.C., Julia Bradley of Britton, Mich., and Mabel Norman of South Lebanon, Ohio; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church, Independence. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday at the church. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.

Memorials are suggested to First Baptist Church Mission Fund, 11659 Madison Pike, Independence, Ky. 41051. Evelyn "Robbins" Dwertman, 85, of Fort Wright, died at 12:05 p.m. Friday at her ho me. She was a homemaker and a member of the St. John Congregational Church, Covington. She was a member of the church Ladies Aid and Adult Bible Class, and the Fort Wright Hilltoppers Senior Citizens.

Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Clem A. Dwertman; sons, David Dwertman of Fort Meyers, Fla., Mark Dwertman of Park Hills and Bernie Dwertman of Cincinnati; daughters, Susan Niles and Teri Timmerman, both of Cincinnati; brothers, John Robbins and Earl Robbins, both of Hot Springs, Ark.; a sister, Rosemary Weber of Fort Thomas; 18 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2:30 p.m.Sunday at St. John Congregational Church, Covington. Mrs. Dwertman donated her body to the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. Memorials are suggested to St. John Congregation Church, 1235 Highway Ave., Covington, Ky. 41011; or St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, 401 E. 20th St., Covington, Ky. 41014.

Zachary David Freeman, 9, of Verona, died at 8:40 a.m. Monday at Children's Hospit al, Cincinnati, after an extended illness. He was a third grader at Gallatin County Elementary School.

Survivors include his parents, David L. and Laura Anne Peters Freeman of Verona; a brother, Jacob Freeman of Verona; a sister, Amanda Freeman of Verona; grandparents, Herschell and Nancy Freeman of Verona and Don and Janet Peters of Hamilton, Ohio; and great-grandparents, Arvil Byrd of Rabbit Hash and Willie Peters of Hamilton, Ohio.

Services were at noon today at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Taylor Mill. Burial was in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.

William T. Fromme, 86, of Cold Spring, died Tuesday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. He was a driver with Morrison Motor Freight Co., a member of St. Joseph Church in Cold Spring and a Navy veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Marion Fromme; a daughter, Mariah Gayle Egan of New Philadelphia, Ohio; a son, William R. Fromme of Cincinnati; and three grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Church, Cold Spring. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Friday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas.

Memorials are suggested to American Diabetes Association, 8899 Brookside Drive, West Chester, Ohio 45069.

Maude Lee Hewitt, 90, of Carrollton, died Wednesday at her home. She was a homemaker and a member of First Apostolic Church, Carrollton.

Survivors include a daughter, Yvonne Hewitt of Carrollton; a son, Patrick Henry "Pete" Hewitt of Carrollton; six grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home, Carrollton. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery, Carrollton.

Mary Juanita Jasper, 81, of Carrollton, died Tuesday at her home. She was a homemake r and a member of St. John Church, Carrollton.

Survivors include her husband, Clifford Jasper; daughters, Mary Carla Jasper Thompson of Dallas and Sherry Jasper of Louisville; a son, Mark Jasper of Amers Foort, Netherlands; sisters, Shirley Glaiser and Jean Miller, both of Louisville, Katherine Dawson of New Haven and Faye Hill of Carrollton; a brother, Joseph P. Mudd of Clarksville, Ind.; and one grandson.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. John Church, Carrollton. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Graham-Dunn Funeral Home, Carrollton, with rosary services at 7 p.m. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery, Carrollton.

Rena Frances Buckley Kramer, 104, of Elsmere, died Wednesday at her home. She was a homemaker and a member of Elsmere Church of Christ. She had received the Centenarian Award and the key to the city of Elsmere. Her husband, Leonard Joseph Kramer, died in 1999. A son, Claude Buckley, died in 1992.

Survivors include sons, Emmett Buckley of Erlanger and Howard Buckley of Elsmere; a daughter, Marie Mullins of Elsmere; a sister, Ora Alma Heis of Elsmere; nine grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Stith Funeral Home, Florence. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger. Memorials are suggested to Elsmere Church of Christ, 124 Carlisle Ave., Elsmere, Ky. 41018.

Gerald E. Ludwig Sr., 64, of Dayton, died at 5:45 p.m. Saturday at his home. He was an employee of Ford Motor Co., Cincinnati, and a member of St. Paul Episcopal Church, Newport. She was a counselor for Marriage Encounter, and a member of the Full Gospel Businessmen's Christian Fellowship, Cursillo Moveland and Faith Alive Movement.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Wagner Ludwig; a daughter, Robin L. Acree of Fort Thomas; a son, Gary Ludwig of Dayton; a brother, Elmer Ludwig of Fort Thomas; and three grandchildren.

Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at St. Paul Episcopal Church, Newport. Memorials are suggested to Heritage Academy, 7216 U.S. 42, Florence, Ky. 41042. Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Fort Thomas, is handling arrangements.

Larry Race, 54, of Crittenden, died Wednesday at his home. Chamber and Grubbs Funera l Home, Walton, is handling arrangements.

Carl Reams, 73, of Latonia, died at 3:05 p.m. Tuesday at his home. He was a retired employee of Putman Trucking Co., Cincinnati, and a member of Teamsters Union Local No. 100 in Cincinnati.

He was a member of Latonia Lodge No. 746 and an employee of B&O; Railroad.

Survivors include brothers, Conley Quinton Reams and John Reams, both of Taylor Mill; and sisters, Rosa Cox of Newport and Wanda Reams of Villa Hills.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Swindler and Currin Funeral Home, Latonia. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, with Masonic services at 7:30 p.m. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.

Memorials are suggested to St. Elizabeth Cancer Care Center, 1 Medical Village Drive, Edgewood, Ky. 41017. Theodore W. Reuter, 71, of Highland Heights, died Tuesday at his home. He was a reti red warehouseman with Shell Oil Co. and a Korean War veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Jacqueline Tuttle Reuter; a son, Michael Reuter of Alexandria; daughters, Debra Wilder of Fort Mitchell, Patricia Reuter of Fort Wright and Barbara Hesler of Cincinnati; a sister, Dolores Buecker of Camp Springs; and six grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Radel Funeral Home, Newport. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate.

Lawrence J. Ross, 77, of Dayton, died Wednesday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thom as.

He was a dock supervisor with Roadway/Palm Beach and a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of Lawler Hanlon VFW Post No. 5662, Newport.

Survivors include a daughter, Donna Ross of Dayton; a son, Jim Ross of Burlington; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Bernard Church, Dayton. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Cincinnati.

Memorials are suggested to Cincinnati Association for the Blind, 2045 Gilbert Ave., Cincinnati, Ohio 45202.

Dobbling Funeral Home, Bellevue, is handling arrangements.

Augustine Solez, 62, of Berry, died Wednesday at Edgemont Manor Nursing Home, Cynthi ana.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Tucker Solez; sons, Terry Solez of Arizona, Augustine Solez, Raymond Solez and Rickey Solez, all of California, and Anthony Solez of Kentucky; daughters, Mary Alice Solez and Jenny Ureta, both of California, and Candy Solez of Kentucky; a sister, Ruby Solez of Las Vegas; and several grandchildren.

No services are planned. Ware Funeral Home, Cynthiana, is handling arrangements.

Mildred Strode Stanton, 88, of Maysville, died Wednesday at Meadowview Regional Medi cal Center in Maysville. She was a seamstress with New York Store, Maysville, and a member of St. Patrick Church in Maysville. She was a member of the St. Patrick Altar Society and Daughters of the American Revolution. Her husband, James B. Stanton, died in 1964. A son, James Anthony Stanton, also preceded her in death.

Survivors include daughters, Joyce Pierce of Jamestown, Tenn., and Ann L. Gatherwright of Maysville; a son, Joseph Michael Stanton of Lexington; 12 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Patrick Church, Maysville.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8:30 tonight at Brell and Son Funeral Home, Maysville, with prayers at 8 p.m. Burial will be in St. Patrick Cemetery, Maysville.

Ruth Teal, 92, of Gallatin County, died Sept. 28 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center Sou th, Edgewood. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include a daughter, Pat Lawrence of Jonesville; and one granddaughter.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today at Baltimore Pike Cemetery, Cincinnati. Cremation will be at Baxter Cremation Co., Cincinnati. Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger, is handling arrangements.

William H. Wentz, 56, of Union, died Wednesday in Villa Hills of injuries suffered i n an accident.

Arrangements are pending at Stith Funeral Home, Florence.
