Helen Fiege wrote radio shows, dramas

Helen Kennedy Fiege wrote shows that aired on radio in the 1930s. Mrs. Fiege, 98, was manager of radio advertising for the Kroger Co. and was the author of dramas such as "Linda's First Love," said her sister-in-law, Louise Kennedy of Ryland.

"She was dynamic," Mrs. Kennedy said. "You never knew anybody who had more pep than she did. She worked and worked and worked."

Mrs. Fiege died Tuesday at the Seasons Courtyard in Cincinnati. She was a frequent speaker on advertising topics at clubs and business meetings in the region.

She and her late husband, Martin Fiege, owned Applegate & Mose in Newport and the Kent Corporation in Latonia, which made bathroom cabinets and fixtures.

The Fieges, who had homes in Florida, Cincinnati and Ryland, were avid horse racing fans who owned several thoroughbreds that won at Keeneland.

Mrs. Fiege was a member of the Ryland Lakes Country Club, the Cincinnati Woman's Club and the Ft. Lauderdale Yacht Club.

"She was a living doll," Mrs. Kennedy said. "She was a great aunt to my children and a great sister-in-law to me."

Other survivors include nieces and nephews, Judy Kennedy of Ryland, Carole Reilly, Terry and Lois Kennedy of Cincinnati; Tim and Janice Kennedy of Lakeside Park; Peggy Kennedy of New York, N.Y.; 11 grand nieces and nephews and a great-grand niece and nephew.

A memorial mass is set for 10 a.m. Sept. 23 at Christ the King Church, Mt. Lookout. The Witt, Good and Kelsch Funeral Home, Cincinnati, is in charge of arrangements.

Dorothy Loretta Hurley Anderson, 76, of Carrollton, died Monday at University of Louisville Hospital, Louisville.

She was a retired bookkeeper for Dr. Hugh Williams and retired owner of Green Acres Mobile Home Park, Easterday, Ky.

Survivors include her husband, Arthur E. Anderson of Carrollton; son, Earl Wayne Anderson of Moline, Ill.; sister, Patricia Cook of Clinton, Iowa; brother, Patrick Hurley of Silvis, Ill.; three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home, Carrollton. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Carrollton.

Maxine Francisco Arnold, 85, of Williamstown, died at 2:30 a.m. Tuesday at her residence after a long illness. Her husband, Ainsworth Theodore "Bud" Arnold preceded her in death.

Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Washington Park East Cemetery, Indianapolis, Indiana.

Arrangements are being handled by Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Williamstown.

Gertrude Knoebber Dressman, 86, of Edgewood, died at 7:20 p.m. at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.

She was a homemaker, a member of St. Pius X Church, a member of Four Seasons Sports Club and a member of numerous bridge clubs. Her husband, Robert A. Dressman, preceded her in death.

Survivors include daughters, Mary Karen Hamlstad of Brookfield, Wis.; Nancy Ogreene of Wautoma, Wis.; Dr. Beth Brinsko of Crestview Hills and Sally Schaffer of Edgewood; sons, Robert A. Dressman of Cincinnati, David W. Dressman of Burlington and Thomas R. Dressman of Arlington Heights, Ill.; a sister, Marcella Wetzel of Ft. Mitchell, a brother William T. Knoebber of Covington; 22 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at St. Pius X Church, Edgewood. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the church. Burial will be in Mother of God Cemetery, Ft. Wright at the convenience of the family.

Memorials are suggested to the Hemophilia Foundation, 1008 Marshall Ave., Cincinnati, Ohio 45225 or to Mother of Mercy High School Dressman Scholarship, 3036 Werk Road, Cincinnati, Ohio 45211.

Arrangements are being handled by Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Covington.

William McMahan, 68, of Latonia, died at 9:40 p.m. Monday at Rosedale Manor Nursing Home, Covington.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Highland Cemetery, Ft. Mitchell.

Arrangements are being handled by C & C Mortuary, Covington.

James "Gene" Frost, 62, of Latonia, died at 4:08 a.m. Monday at St. Elizabeth North, Covington.

He was an auto mechanic at Reeves Shell-Marathon.

Survivors include his wife, Ruby Frost of Latonia; son, James Michael Frost of Independence; daughter, Debra Sue Rehmet of Taylor Mill; brother Stanley Frazier of Manchester; sisters, Nana Allen of Dayton, Christine Hacher of Cincinnati and Alpha Burns of Manchester; and two grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Don Catchen & Son Funeral Homes, Elsmere-Erlanger. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.

Mary Margaret Peters, 58, of Cincinnati, formerly of Covington, died at 5:55 a.m. Monday at her sister's Cincinnati residence.

She was a retired jewelry polisher.

Survivors include her husband John Peters of Cincinnati; stepson John Peters of Brownsville, Texas; stepdaughters, Jill Huff and Maria Thompson both of Remus, Mich.; seven sisters, two brothers and two step-grandchildren.

Services will be in Remus. Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday at Allison & Rose Funeral Home, Covington. Burial will be Saturday in Bloomfield Township Cemetery, Remus, Mich.

Billy B. Rigg, 75, of Maysville, died Tuesday at his residence.

He retired from Brock-McVey Company of Maysville. He was a member of the Powersville Baptist Church, a past president of the Mason County Fish and Game Club, and a former member of the Moose Lodge. He also was a World War II Marine Corps veteran. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lola Jane Dugan Rigg, in 1965.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Lawrence Rigg of Maysville; daughters, Billie "Joe" Schumacher of Maysville and Marlene "Larry" Darnell of Mason County; three stepdaughters, Juanita Kay Craycraft and Melissa Lynn Dunlap, both of Maysville and Sandra Elaine Lounder of Brooksville; two stepsons, Chuck "Vickie" Simmons and Timmy "Augusta" Simmons, both of Mayslick; four sisters, Roslyn Wills of Covington, Faye Orth of Portsmouth, Ohio, Sue Thackston of Washington and Avalou Holford of Maysville; five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and 12 step-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Knox and Brothers Funeral Home, Maysville. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today a t the funeral home. Burial will be in the Wedonia Cemetery, Mason County.

Grace Mayne Swinford, 72, of Erlanger, died at 2:57 a.m. Monday at Christ Hospital, Cincinnati.

She was a tax examiner for the IRS and a bookkeeper for Swinford Jewelers, Erlanger.

Survivors include her husband, George M. Swinford of Erlanger; sons, Stanley B. Swinford of Edgewood and Robert P. Swinford and John W. Swinford, both of Erlanger; sisters, Thelma Whitcomb of Norfolk, Va. and Betty Sue Schmitt of Lexington; brother, Walter B. Mayne of Richwood;and seven grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Erlanger Baptist Church, Erlanger. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.

Memorials are suggested to American Diabetes Association, 8899 Brookside Ave., West Chester, Ohio 45103.

James Alex Szczepek, 55, of Florence, died Monday at his home.

He was the vice president of I.T.A. of Cincinnati and a member of Mary Queen of Heaven Church, Erlanger. Survivors include his wife, Kandy Szczepek of Florence; daughters, Carolyn Willemin of Loveland, Ohio, Sandi Gibbs of Goshen, Ohio, Jenny Beyersdoerfer of Augusta, Ga., Michelle Szczepek of Burlington and Megan Berger of Mayfield; father and stepmother, Alex and Dolores Szczepek, both of Bradenton, Fla.; sisters, Trudy Maleta of Hanford, Calif., and Anne Lee Szczepek of Bradenton, Fla.; brothers, Jack Szczepek of Charlotte, N.C., and Allen Szczepek of Florida; and eight grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Mary Queen of Heaven Church. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Stith Funeral Home, Florence. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill. Memorials are suggested to Down Syndrome Assoc., 1821 Summit Road Suite 102, Cincinnati, Ohio 45237.

Harry Edward Wehry, 86, of Latonia, died at 5:45 a.m. Friday at Rosedale Manor Nursing Home, Covington.

He was an employee of Bavarian Brewery. He was preceded in death by his wife, Leslie Wehry, in 1983.

Survivors include his daughters, Kathy Wehry of Covington, Helene Lafferty of Hamilton, Ohio, and Barbara Copley of Latonia; sister, Cecilia Knoebber of Frankfort; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Services will be at the convenience of the family.

Catchen and Son Funeral Home, Covington is handling the arrangements.

Kelcy Woods, 79, of Newport died Tuesday at his residence.

He was a retired crane operator with Interlake Steel. He was a member of Lawler-Hanlon VFW Post No. 5662 and United Steelworkers of America. He also was a World War II Army veteran. He was preceded in death by sons, Micky Abner and Darrell Woods.

Survivors include his wife, Lucille Thomas Woods of Newport; sons, Johnny Woods, James Woods and Ronnie Woods, all of Newport, and Kelcy Woods Jr. of Cold Spring; daughters, Wanda Forsyth of Covington, Vicky Vince of Independence, and Sonja Woods and Lisa Ard, both of Newport; 21 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. VFW service begins at 2:45 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens with an honor guard service.
