Lenora Bacon, Campbell Chamber's only secretary
Lenora Bacon championed Campbell County growth for decades as the first and only executive secretary of the Campbell County Chamber of Commerce.
"There was no stronger fighter for the citizens of Campbell County and what is good for Campbell County than Lenora Bacon," said former Judge-Executive Ken Paul.
"Lenora would live and bleed for Campbell County," he said.
Miss Bacon, 83, died at 10:19 p.m. Thursday at St. Luke Hospital East in Fort Thomas.
Miss Bacon grew up in Newport and started working for the Newport Businessmen's Association in the 1930s as a volunteer, said a nephew, Robert Bacon of Highland Heights.
"It was still the Depression, and people couldn't get jobs, so they would volunteer to get experience," he said.
After World War II, Miss Bacon became the executive secretary and only paid staff member for a new group called the Campbell County Chamber of Commerce.
"The chamber came to prominence after the war, and a lot of that was due to Lenora," said Bud Pogue, former president of the Campbell County Chamber. "She was the one who coordinated the activities. She helped organize the Jaycees."
"She did so much to bring people together at an important time in the growth of Campbell County," he said.
When the interstate highways were being built, she arranged meetings between county representatives and the state highway commissioner to discuss county needs.
She was a powerhouse in the county, but Robert Bacon she was also his Aunt Lenora, the one who took her nephews and niece to the movies every Christmas Eve and never missed a birthday or holiday.
She remained executive secretary of the Campbell County Chamber of Commerce until it combined with other county chambers to become the Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce in the 1980s. She continued to staff a Campbell County office for several years, and retired when she was in her 70s, her nephew said.
Miss Bacon also was a member of the Campbell County Historical Society.
She moved to Carmel Manor nursing home in 1993 after severe osteoporosis made it difficult to walk up stairs. She fell about two weeks ago and was hospitalized.
Her brother, John, died in December.
Other survivors include her sister, Myrtle Bacon of Southgate; a niece and a second nephew.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday at St. Therese Church, Southgate. There will be no visitation. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas. Memorials are suggested to St. Therese School Fund, Southgate, Ky. Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Fort Thomas, is handling arrangements.
Robert Bays Sr., 68, of Florence, died Friday at his home. He was a retired Navy commander, past master of Walton-Verona Masonic Lodge No. 719, a member of Covington Scottish Rite, El Hasa Shrine and Campbell County York Rite Bodies. He was preceded in death by a son, Robert Bays Jr., in May.
Survivors include his wife, Noreene Morgan Bays of Florence; a son, William F. Bays of Carson City, Nev.; step-son, Morgan J. Morgan of Florence; and a sister, Pat Wilson of Las Vegas, Nev.
Services will be at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Burlington. Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, Greenup. Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society, 6612 Dixie Highway, Suite 2A, Florence, Ky. 41042.
Ruby May Brummett, 69, of Alexandria, died at 11:34 p.m. Thursday at St. Luke Hospital East in Fort Thomas. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church, Alexandria. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard William Brummett, in 1992.
Survivors include a son, Leonard Brummett of Alexandria; a daughter, Trish Tharp of Grants Lick; a brother, Earl Goad of Grants Lick; sisters, Ethel Goad of Highland Heights and Pearl Brummett of Middletown, Ohio; and three grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church, Alexandria. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the church and from 10 a.m. until the time of services Tuesday at the church. Burial will be in Alexandria Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to First Baptist Church, 104 Washington St., Alexandria, Ky. 41001.
John Henry Daum, 94, of West Covington and formerly of Ludlow, died Friday at St. Elizabeth Hospice in Covington. He was a retired machinist for Lodge and ShiplyMachine Tool Co. of Cincinnati and a member of the Philadelphia Church of God Cincinnati/Dayton Congregation.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Ludlow. Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill. Memorials are suggested to St. Elizabeth Hospice, 401 E. 20th St., Covington, Ky. 41014.
Earl Hodgen, 84, of St. Louis, Mo. and formerly of Campbellsville, died Tuesday at St. Mary's Health Care Center in St. Louis.
Survivors include his wife, Ada Hodgen of Chicago, Ill.; a brother, George Hodgen of Covington; and sisters, Wray Cooper of Louisville and Berneice Robinson of Campbellsville.
Services will be at 1 p.m. today at First Baptist Church, Campbellsville. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of services today at the church. Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery, Campbellsville.

Donna Kuntz, 52, of Newport, died Thursday at St. Luke Hospital East in Fort Thomas. She was a teacher's aide at A.D. Owens Elementary School, Newport, and a member of the New Testament Missionary Baptist Church, Newport.
Survivors include her husband, Bill Kuntz of Newport; sons, William Kuntz Jr. of Newport and Randy Kuntz of Alexandria; a daughter, Holly Barrett of Newport; brothers, Jim Clark of Erlanger, Jack Clark of Cincinnati, and Butch Clark and Richard Clark, both of Newport; sisters, Rhonda Evanson of Melbourne and Mary Johnson of Highland Heights; and seven grandchildren.
Services will be at noon Tuesday at the New Testament Missionary Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Monday at Cooper Funeral Home, Grants Lick. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Grants Lick.
Cecilia E. Link, 91, of Flor ence, died at 4:50 a.m. Thursday at Woodspoint Nursing Home in Florence. She was a retired registered nurse and a member of St. Theresa Church, Cincinnati. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Link, in 1963.
Survivors include a son, John D. Link of Edgewood, and four grandchildren.

Jacqueline Ruth Griffith Mullins, 57, of Lexington and formerly of Florence, died at 10:50 a.m. Thursday at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington. She was a retired associate with the Sears Roebuck and Co. in Lexington, a former Mason County deputy court clerk, a member of the Southern Hills United Methodist Church, Lexington, member of the Pat Herren Circle of the United Methodist Women, former co-chairperson for fundraising for the United Methodist Women and a volunteer receptionist for the United Methodist Mission Dental Clinic, Lexington, board member of the Kentucky Right to Life Association, and was recording secretary for the Central Kentucky Right to Life Association.
Survivors include her husband, Gordon F. Mullins of Lexington; a son, Gordon Todd Mullins of Lexington; a daughter, Rebecca Barrett Mullins of Lexington; parents, Roy and Bareyl Griffith of Winchester, Ohio; a brother, Barry Griffith of Winchester, Ohio; and sisters, Charlotte Gilbert of Richmond, Va., and Rebecca Semple of Winchester, Ohio.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Southern Hills United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at W.R. Stella A. Parrott, 91, of Erlanger, died at 12:15 p.m. Thursday at Woodspoint Nursing Home in Florence. She was a homemaker and a member of Crescent Springs Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Esse A. Parrott, in 1991.
Survivors include her daughter, Martha Huss of Erlanger; a brother, Lloyd Henderson of Louisville; two grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Harrison Gregory Schrand, newborn, of Union, died Tuesday at Good Samaritan Hospital in Cincinnati.
Survivors include his parents, Keri and Greg Schrand of Union; maternal grandparents, Don and Donna Conrad of Union; paternal grandparents, Dr. James and Marilyn Schrand of Florence; and maternal great-grandmother, Betty Schambach of Kenton County.

Aleene Elizabeth Taylor, 89, of Paducah and formerly of Fort Wright, died Wednesday at Magnolia Manor Nursing Home in Rock Hill, S.C. She was a sales clerk for Bankhardt's Luggage, a member of the Madison Avenue Christian Church, and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Emera Chapter. She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert W. Taylor, in 1966, and a son, Albert W. Taylor Jr., in 1993.
Survivors include sons, John A. "Jack" Taylor and William E. Taylor, both of Charlotte, N.C.; sisters, Ginny Marquette Weber of Kissimmee, Fla., and Isabelle Lowell of Walton; a brother, Milton Taylor of Lexington; 10 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Walter Cecil Webster, 69, of Owenton, died Thursday at his home. He was a farmer.
Survivors include his wife, Catherine Woodyard Webster of Owenton; sons, Roy Lawrence Webster of Owenton and Ricky Allen Webster of Warsaw; a daughter, Shirley Marie Brumbcak of Owenton; sisters, Hannah Hammonds of Owenton, Sylvia Woodward of Covington and Linda Carol Jefferson of Prestonsburg; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
