Post family in Florence loses three parents in a single day

A Florence couple was touched by grief not once but three times Tuesday. Pam and James Post lost both of her parents and his father that day.

Lyonell D. Cloyd, 83, and his wife, Joan E. Cloyd, 74, both were found dead in their Park Hills home Tuesday.

The couple, former owners of an Erlanger decorating firm, are believed to have died of natural causes several days earlier. Pam Post was their only child.

James Post's father, Douglas N. Post, 79, of Cincinnati, died Tuesday of complications following heart surgery.

Park Hills Police said the Posts unsuccessfully tried to reach the Cloyds from the hospital where Douglas Post had died. Pam Post asked police to check on her parents; police found them dead inside their Audubon Road home.

Kenton County Coroner Norbert Medley will run tests to determine the cause of the Cloyds' deaths. However, at this point, Medley said foul play is not suspected.

Lyonell and Joan Cloyd had been married 55 years and had owned Color Accent Decorating Store in Erlanger for 15 years. They retired ten years ago as interior decorators.

"They worked together very well," said their son-in-law. "She was more into design, and he was more involved with the types of material to use."

The Cloyds each had an impressive background of experience as decorators. Mrs. Cloyd, originally from Bristol, England, had grown up around the art of fine furnishings. Her father had been employed by British royalty to provide expertise in the realm of antiques. Mrs. Cloyd had also worked at McAlpin's in Crestview Hills.

Mr. Cloyd had been partner in a Wyoming firm, Somerset House, which provided decorating services to numerous Homearama houses, as well as Murphy and Zicka Homes. He left the partnership to operate the couple's Erlanger business.

The Cloyds were former members of Park Hills Lutheran Church.

Mr. Cloyd also was a member of Erlanger Lions Club. He was an Army veteran of World War II.

Their survivors also include two grandchildren, and Mrs. Cloyd is also survived by a brother, Ron Beere of Sydney, Australia.
