Robert and William Stull, brothers, lifelong friends

Robert "Ike" Stull and William "Mike" Stull were real buddies, said their sister, Edna Stull Evans, of Elsmere.

"They were a year and two weeks apart, and they looked a lot alike, almost like twins," Mrs. Evans said. "Mom used to dress them the same and take them to places like the zoo."

The boys reminded their dad of Ike and Mike, a pair of mischievous youngsters in a comic strip. The brothers got the nicknames when they were about 3 and 4 - and the monikers stuck.

Until recently, Mrs. Evans said, Robert would pick up William to go shopping or to a doctor's appointment.

"He did that as long as he possibly could," Mrs. Evans said.

On Sunday, the brothers died, both of natural causes.

Robert E. "Ike" Stull, 82, of Dayton, died at 8:35 p.m. at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.
