Nancy Drews set 'heroic example'

Nancy Lee Kreimborg Drews loved to laugh, had lots of friends, and wasn't afraid to tell folks what was on her mind.

It was those qualities that resulted in her recognition as a Boone County hometown hero in 1998 during the county's bicentennial celebration.

"They picked people from different communities who had done something in a quiet way as a heroic example," said Ms. Drews' brother, Cline Kreimborg of Erlanger.

"She received a gold medal at the courthouse for the way she handled her bouts with cancer. She did it with an air of dignity."

Ms. Drews, who had a scar from throat surgery as a result of her cancer, was quick to tell folks she got the disease from smoking, Kreimborg said.
