Belle Cox, 'wonderful mother, loving person'

Belle C. Cox of Erlanger loved her family.

"Besides her son, daughter and son-in-law, she had various nieces and nephews who were very devoted to her," said her daughter, Bonnie Cox Hosea of Edgewood.

"She was just a loving person. She was always full of life. She was a very strong-willed, determined person, but yet she had a compassionate side to her also."

Mrs. Cox, 83, died Thursday at Christ Hospital, Cincinnati.

She retired as a legal secretary with Robert-Houston-French Law Office in Cincinnati.

Before her illness, Mrs. Cox traveled, quilted, sewed, read and gardened, her daughter said.

"She was a very busy individual," Mrs. Hosea said.

Mrs. Cox also enjoyed working

jigsaw and crossword puzzles.

She loved to watch the sunset from her window.

"She was just a wonderful mother and we'll miss her," Mrs. Hosea said.

Other survivors include her son, Philip C. Cox of Santa Clara, Calif.; sisters, Rose D. Sims of Muncie, Ind., and Bettie Cozatt Spalding of Logan, Utah; and one grandson.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger.

Visitation will begin there at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Burial will be in Old Liberty Cemetery, Lebanon.

Memorials are suggested to Alzheimer's Disease Association, 644 Linn St., Cincinnati, Ohio 45203; or Vista Care Foundation, 8135 Beechmont Ave., Cincinnati, 45255.

Virgil D. Ashcraft, 56, of Independence, died at 10:07 p.m. April 7 at Middletown, Ohio, Regional Hospital.

He was an electrician and an Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War.

Survivors include his wife, Nancy E. Ashcraft; a son, Alex M. Ashcraft of Independence; brothers, Tom Ashcraft of Fort Mitchell, William Ashcraft of Largo, Fla., and Michael Ashcraft of Latonia; and a sister, Peggy Oak of Williamstown.

Services will be at noon Saturday at Catchen Funeral Home, Elsmere.

Visitation will begin there at 11:30 a.m. SaturdayA15.

Aleta Bailey, 93, of Corbin, formerly of Mays Lick, died Wednesday at Baptist Regional Medical Center, Corbin.

She was a homemaker and a member of Washington Presbyterian Church.

Her husband, Carr N. Bailey, died in 1972.

Survivors include daughters, James P. Collins of London and Leverne Johnson of Morris, Ill.; sons, Richard N. Bailey of Irvin and C. J. Bailey of Mount Sterling; a sister, Leona Taylor of Lexington; 13 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Palmer Funeral Home, Mays Lick.

Visitation will begin there at noon Saturday.

Burial will be in Green Acres Cemetery, Mason County.

Bill Ferguson, 53, of Morning View, died Thursday at his home.

Arrangements are pending at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Independence.

Eva Doris Johnson, 64, of Douglasville, Ga., died Monday at Douglas General Hospital.

She was a member of First Baptist Church, Elsmere.

Survivors include her husband, Clifford Johnson; daughters, Donna Dicks of Cincinnati and Saundra Schley of Douglasville; her father, Theodore Larkin; brothers, Reginald Larkin and Theodore Larkin; and three grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church, Elsmere.

Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Saturday.

Burial will be in Spring Grove Cemetery, Cincinnati.

Jones Simpson Funeral Home, Covington, is handling arrangements.

Nellie Kettle, 75, of Erlanger, died at 12:10 p.m. March 30 at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence.

She was a housekeeper with Drawbridge Inn, Fort Mitchell.

Her husband, Donald Kettle, died in 1998.

Survivors include a son, Brad Kettle of Florence; daughters, Judy Robinson of Cincinnati and Linda Kettle of Erlanger; sisters, Nan Cahill of Las Vegas and Roberta Parker of Chicago; and two grandchildren.

Services will be at noon Saturday at First Church of Christ, Burlington. Catchen Funeral Home, Elsmere, is handling arrangements.

Olive R. Mathewson, 80, of Florence, died at 12:30 a.m. Wednesday at Woodspoint Nursing Home in Florence.

She was a homemaker.

Survivors include a daughter, Rhea Krebs of Erlanger; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Catchen Funeral Home, Elsmere.

Burial will be in cemetery Association, Dunmore, Pa.

Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Northern Kentucky, 1403 Alexandria Pike, Fort Thomas, Ky. 41075.

Freddie E. Meadows, 64, of Madison, Ind., formerly of Carrollton, died at 10:03 p.m. Wednesday at King's Daughters Hospital, Madison.

Survivors include his father, Ralph Meadows of Madison; sisters, Betty Ward and Mary Nell Youngblood, both of Madison; and a brother, James Meadows of Canaan, Ind.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Graham-Dunn Funeral Home, Carrollton.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight, and after 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery, Carrollton.

Paul Noll, 76, of Ludlow, died Thursday at St. Elizabeth North Hospice unit.

Arrangements are pending at Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home, Ludlow.

Marie Riedinger, 98, of Covington, died at 11:50 a.m. Thursday at Franciscan Hospital Western Hills Campus, Cincinnati.

She was a member of St. Ann Church in Covington and the church Ladies Sodality.

Her husband, Charles Riedinger, died in 1977.

Survivors include a son, Raymond Riedinger of Cincinnati; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Ann Church.

Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.

Memorials are suggested to St. Ann Church, 1274 Parkway Ave., Covington, Ky. 41011.

Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home, Ludlow, is handling arrangements.

Catherine Mary Lawless Smith, 86, of Union, died Wednesday at her home.

She was a member of Mother of God Church, Covington.

Survivors include her husband, T. A. Smith; a daughter, Jeannie Houston of Cincinnati; a son, Thomas C. Smith of Union; a sister, Erma Plunkett of Cape May, N.J.; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at noon Saturday at Mother of God Church.

Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.

Memorials are suggested to St. Elizabeth Hos pice Unit, 401 E. 20th St., Covington, Ky. 41014.

Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Walton, is handling arrangements.

Mary Madgealene Wheeler, 78, of Florence, died Wednesday at her home.

Husbands, Dewey Slone and Lamon Wheeler, both preceded her in death.

Survivors include a daughter, Jeanetta Viers of Haysi, Va.; a son, Dewey Slone of Union; a stepdaughter, Katherine Stiltner of Pennsylvania; brothers, Kenis Darnell of Big Rock, Va., Forster Darnell of Terre Haute, Ind., Junior Darnell of Charleston, W.Va., Lloyd Darnell and Scott Darnell, both of Mouthcard; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Bailey Funeral Home, Elk horn City.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 tonight at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Flanery Cemetery, Mouthcard.
