Kenneth Bush, welder for GE and Covington police officer

Kenneth A. Bush was a retired Covington police officer who found a second career as a welder with General Electric in Cincinnati.

Mr. Bush, 79, of Latonia, spent 20 years walking the beat in Covington before retiring more than 20 years ago and becoming a welder. He enjoyed both jobs, said his wife, Charlotte E. Meyer Bush.

"He was a wonderful person. He worshipped the ground I walked on," Mrs. Bush said. "He was an all-around good man."

Mr. Bush died at 7:19 p.m. Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South in Edgewood.

He was born in Indiana but spent most of his life in Northern Kentucky. He enjoyed hunting small game when he was younger and was a hard worker, his wife said.

"He was a good father. He always joked and carried on," Mrs. Bush said.

Other survivors include sons, Keith L. Bush of Leesville, S.C., and Kent L. Bush of Apple Valley, Calif.; a brother, Edward Bush of Brandon, Miss.; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Connley Bros. Funeral Home, Latonia. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 tonight at the funeral home, with honor guard services by the Covington Police Department. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.

Margaret Biltz, 95, of Fort Wright, formerly of Fort Thomas, died Wednesday at her home. She was a nursing supervisor with Children's Hospital Medical Center in Cincinnati and was a member of Highland United Methodist Church, Fort Thomas. Her husband, Dr. Robert Biltz, died in 1954.

Survivors include daughters, Susan Ballentine and Janet Bell, both of Cincinnati; a son, Tom Biltz of Fort Thomas; 10 grandchildren;and 19 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate. Memorials are suggested to Highland United Methodist Church, 314 N. Fort Thomas Ave., Fort Thomas, Ky. 41075; or Children's Hospital Medical Center, 3333 Burnet Ave., Cincinnati, Ohio 45229.

Thomas H. "Ski" Bonkowski Sr., 52, of Cincinnati, died Thursday at his home. He was a firefighter with the Cincinnati Fire Department for 26 years and was a volunteer with the St. Vincent DePaul Society of Northern Kentucky and the Covington Community Center. He was a member of the Kentucky Association of Realtors and the Northern Kentucky Home Builders Association and was a Vietnam veteran.

Survivors include sons, Thomas H. Bonkowski Jr. and Eric Bonkowski; a daughter, Valerie Krieger; a sister, Mary Ann Fehr; and three grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at T. P. White & Sons Funeral Home, Cincinnati. Visitation will begin there at 8:30 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in St. Joseph New Cemetery, Cincinnati.

Pauline Truman Carl, 87, of Augusta, died Thursday at Extenda Care Augusta. She was a homemaker and a member of Brooksville United Methodist Church. Her husband, William Carl, died in 1994. Brothers Austin England, Noah England, Carl England and Donald England all preceded her in death.

Survivors include daughters, Norma J. Banfield of East Point, Ga., and Mildred Ann Ellis of Brooksville; sisters, Betty Moore of Englewood, Ohio, Doris Woodward of Maysville, Mildred Kurtz of Brooksville, Elizabeth Jones of Carlisle and Sara Gerhard of Franklin, Ohio; a brother, David England of Maysville; four grandchildren;and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Concord United Methodist Church, Brooksville. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 tonight at Moore and Parker Funeral Home, Brooksville. Burial will be in Concord Cemetery, Brooksville. Memorials are suggested to Concord United Methodist Church Building Fund, Brooksville, Ky. 41004.

Alma S. Rich Hamilton, 86, of Florence, died Thursday at Florence Park Care Center. She was a real estate agent, a former Stanley Home Products dealer and a member of Big Bone Methodist Church. Her husband, James Garfield Hamilton, died in 1992.

Survivors include daughters, Betty Doolin and Nancy Frodge, both of Union; sons, Gle nn Hamilton of Walton and Joe Hamilton of Union; a half-sister, Roberta Hunter of Morn ing View; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Stith Funeral Home, Florence. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at funeral home. Burial will be in Hughes Chapel Cemetery, Union. Memorials are suggested to Alzheimer's Disease Association, 644 Linn St., Cincinnati, Ohio 45203.

Marvin W. Henry, 60, of Sherman, died at Wednesday at his home. He was a maintenance worker with Bluegrass Meats, Crescent Springs.

Survivors include his wife, Wanda Cook Henry; sons, Allan W. Henry and Kenneth G. Henry, both of Crittenden, Mark W. Henry of Taylor Mill and Keith L. Henry of Williamstown; a sister, Louise Bivens of Burlington; 10 grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Williamstown. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Hill Crest Cemetery, Dry Ridge.

Milton H. Hernley, 74, of Palm Bay, Fla., formerly of Burlington, died Dec. 25 at Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne, Fla. He was a retired field superintendent for General Signal Co., Cleveland. He was a member of Scottdale, Pa., Elks; Loyal Order of Moose in Sebastian, Fla.; and Greater Palm Bay Senior Center, Palm Bay. He was an Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Shelby Hernley; sons, Larry Hernley and Jacque Hernley, both of Scottdale; a daughter, Sherry Murray of Scottdale; a stepdaughter, Judy McDonald of Burns, Tenn.; a stepson, John Tomlin of Palm Bay; 12 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Memorial services were Jan. 7 at Ferguson Funeral Home, Scottdale. Burial was in Greenridge Memorial Park, Everson, Pa. Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association.

Carrie Kinman, 77, of Dry Ridge, died Thursday at Grant Manor Health Care Center, Williamstown. She was a retired homemaker and a member of Glencoe Baptist Church.

Survivors include sons, Donald Kinman of Bellmead, Texas, and Larry Kinman of Covington; daughters, Nancy Stephenson of Dry Ridge and Judy Cox of Independence; three grandchildren; and one step-great-grandchild.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Eckler-Hudson Funeral Home, Dry Ridge. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Jonesville Cemetery.

Hugh J. McKeown Jr., 79, of Covington, died at 10:15 a.m. Thursday at his home. He was a security guard with the Internal Revenue Service in Covington, co-owner of McKeown Brothers Building Restoration Co. in Covington and a member of Covington First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Nettie McKeown; a son, Robert Michael McKeown of Phoenix ; a daughter, Patty Ann Curry of Lexington; a brother, Jack McKeown of Covington; and three grandchildren.

Services will be at noon Monday at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Covington. Visitation will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill. Memorials are suggested to Children's Hospital, 3333 Burnet Ave., Cincinnati, Ohio 45229.

Burgess Price, 75, of Florence, died at 2:25 a.m. Thursday at St. Luke Hospital West in Florence. He was a lawn care worker with Booth Hospital.

Survivors include nieces and nephews.

Services will be at the convenience of the family. Cremation will be at Hillside Chapel, Cincinnati. Catchen Funeral Home, Elsmere, is handling arrangements.

Henrietta Quaranta, 82, of Naples, Fla., died Monday at Glenview Nursing Home in Naples. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Pat Quaranta, preceded her in death.

Survivors include a daughter, Patricia Quaranta of Naples; a son, Michael Quaranta of Cincinnati; eight brothers and sisters, and four grandchildren.

Memorial Mass will be at the convenience of the family. Memorials are suggested to St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, 401 E. 20th St., Covington, Ky. 41014. Johnson-Pittman Funeral Home, Naples, is handling arrangements.

William A. Sparks, 81, of Robertson County, died Thursday at Edgemont Ma nor Nursing Home, Cynthiana. He was a retired tobacco farmer and a member and former officer with the Kentontown Christian Church. He was a former Kentucky Cardinal Dairy and Cudahy Foods representative and a former Robertson County School Board member. He was a Navy Reserve veteran of World War II. His wife, Eloise Ruth Platt Sparks; a brother, Raymond Thomas Sparks; and a sister, Mary Elizabeth Sparks, preceded him in death.

Survivors include sons, Charles C. Sparks of Medina, Ohio, and Thomas N. Sparks of Lexington; a daughter, Pinkie Moore of New Bern, N.C.; a sister, Rachel Dalhover of Apache Junction, Ariz.; a half-sister, Bobbie Jean Mazzei of Harrison City, Pa.; a half-brother, Perry G. Miller; and four grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at Robertson County Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Maso n County. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of the Bluegrass, 508 W. Pike St., Cynthiana, Ky. 41031; or to charity.

James E. Surface, 69, of Butler, died Wednesday at Blue Ash Nursing Home, Cincinnati. He was self-employed and was a member of John R. Little VFW Post No. 3186, Southgate.

Survivors include his daughter, Julie Chambers of Butler; and two grandchildren.

Memorial services will be at the convenience of the family. Peoples Funeral Home, Falmouth, is handling arrangements.

June Vaughn, 80, of Taylor Mill, died at 12:05 a.m. this morning at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, South.

Arrangements are pending at Swindler & Currin Funeral Home, Latonia.

Robert James White Sr., 77, of Alexandria, died Thursday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas.

He was a retired truck driver for the U.S. Shoe Company, Cincinnati, Ohio. He was a World War II Army Veteran. His wife, Louise White, died in June 1999.

Survivors include sons, Robert J. White Jr. of Mount Olivet, William T. White of Milford, Ohio, and Richard R. White of California, Ky.; brothers, Irvin Maines of Dayton, Clarence Maines Jr. of Alexandria, Donald Maines and Richard Maines, both of Dayton, and Charles Maines of Bellevue; sisters; Florence Sevier of Burnside, Ky., and Mary Maines of Highlands, Texas; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Cooper Funeral Home, Grants Lick. Visitation will be there from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate.
