Raymond Scott, farmer and GM worker

Raymond Howard Scott was no stranger to work.

For some 32 years Mr. Scott worked a farm, then drove to Norwood, Ohio, daily for his shift in the General Motors plant.

Mr. Scott, 73, of Warsaw, died Saturday in Gallatin County Health Care Center in Warsaw.

"We lived in Boone County for a while, but for at least 23 years, he drove up there from here," Mr. Scott's son, Bill, said of his father's daily commute to Norwood.

During that time Mr. Scott raised tobacco and cattle on 150 acres in Gallatin County and worked the second, or evening, shift in the auto plant. He retired in 1980, his son said.

After retirement, Mr. Scott drove a bus for the Gallatin County School System. "He really enjoyed that. He drove the sports teams a lot, and he had a really good time," said Bill Scott.

During World War II, Mr. Scott served in the Army in Europe, with Gen. George Patton's Third Army. "He was quite proud of that," said Bill Scott.

Mr. Scott was a member of Paint Lick Baptist Church.

A daughter, Betty Lou Scott, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Jeanie Scott; a son, Bill Scott of Richwood; sisters, Rosie Stahl and Faye Davis, both of Florence, and Mary Frances Washmuth of Florence; and three grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Carlton-Lowder Funeral Home, Warsaw. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Napoleon Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to Paint Lick Baptist Church Building Fund, Route 1, Box 210-A, Warsaw, Ky. 41095.

Helen Berry, 80, of Norwood, Ohio, formerly of Robertson County, died Friday at Drake Hospital, Cincinnati. She was a retired employee of U.S. Shoe, Cincinnati, and a member of the former Mount Pleasant Christian Church, Robertson County. Her husband, Claude Hildreth Berry, died in 1983.

Survivors include daughters, Neva Rudy and Joyce Adams, both of Mays Lick, and Linda Berry of Mount Olivet; a brother, Jack Gore of Norwood; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Services will be at noon Wednesday at Palmer Funeral Home, Mays Lick. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery.

Gladys Capito Landrum Bovat, 92, of Warsaw, died Sunday at Carroll County Hospital, Carrollton. She was a homemaker and a member of Elsmere Church of Christ.

Survivors include sons, Daniel M. Capito of Cincinnati, George R. Capito of Williamstown and Harry E. Capito of Spokane, Wash.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Pythian Grove Cemetery, Berry. Rogers Funeral Home, Corinth, is handling arrangements.

Dorothy Brue, 53, of Covington, died Sunday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington.

Arrangements are pending at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Covington.

Bonnie M. Casson, 82, of Covington, died at 11:20 p.m. Friday at Lakeside Place Nursing Home, Highland Heights. She was a private-duty nurse's aide. Her husband, Robert Casson, died in 1977.

Survivors include a son, Craig Hively of Punta Gorda, Fla.; daughters, Nadine Preston of Taylor Mill, Gwen McKinney of Covington and Jana Hockerman of Waukesha, Wis.; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Mother of God Cemetery, Fort Wright. Memorials are suggested to Kenton County Animal Shelter, 1020 Mary Laidley Drive, Covington, Ky. 41015. C&C; Mortuary Service, Covington, is handling arrangements.

Eva Mae Coke, 70, of Owenton, died Saturday at Owen County Memorial Hospital, Owenton. She was a homemaker and a member of Monterey Baptist Church. Her husband, Tom Coke, preceded her in death.

Survivors include a son, Ronald C. Hardy of Berea; a brother, Junior Keith of Jonesville; sisters, Addie Gardner of Frankfort and Alice Baker of Lexington; and three grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at McDonald Funeral Home, Main Street, Owenton. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Monterey Masonic Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Monterey Baptist Church, 152 Taylor St., Owenton, Ky. 40359.

Jesse T. Conley, 88, of Butler, died at 8 a.m. Saturday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. He was a retired employee of Columbia Gas Co., Cold Spring.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Wanda Conley; sons, James Conley of Lenoxburg, Jesse William Conley of Alexandria, and Hayes Logan Conley and Thomas Conley, both of Cold Spring; a daughter, Thelma Conley of Newport; a brother, Logan William Conley of Port Charlotte, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Alexandria Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.

Bertha Rider Dean, 84, of Florence, died at 6:45 p.m. Friday at Woodspoi nt Nursing Home in Florence. She was a former press operator with King Records in Cincinnati, and a former employee of McGregor Co. in Williamstown. A son, Bobby Rider, and a daughter, Betty Skinner, both preceded her in death.

Survivors include daughters, Marie Sparks of Petersburg, Donna Davide of Mentone, Ala., June Secrist of Covington, Louise Bower of Cincinnati, Joyce Parker of Las Vegas, Linda Jones of Newtown, Ohio, and Rita Prather of Indianapolis; and sons, Ronnie Dean of Silver Grove and Ricky Dean of Florence; a brother, Carl Billiter of Williamstown; a sister, Ada Stewart of Sherman; 38 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. today at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Williamstown. Burial will be in Williamstown Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to American Diabetes Association, 721 W. Main St., Louisville, Ky. 40202; or American Heart Association, 2936 Vernon Place, Cincinnati, Ohio 45219.

Eddie Alexander "Hickory" Evans, 91, of Latonia, died at 4:04 a.m. Sunday at Rosedale Manor Nursing Home in Latonia. He was a retired railroad engineer with L&N; Railroad, and a member of First Evangelical Methodist Church in Latonia. His wife, Roma Vonnell Evans, died in 1986.

Survivors include a son, Dr. Dale P. Evans of Taylor Mill; a daughter, Judy Jones of Carmel, Ind.; and five grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.

Junior Farmer, 38, of Hebron, died Friday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.

Survivors include his wife, Angie Farmer; daughters, Lacy Farmer and Lisa Farmer, both of Hebron; sons, Nikki Pearson of Hebron, and Glenn Farmer and Jonathan Farmer, both of Dayton; his mother, Edith Cint of Covington; a brother, George Cint of Alexandria; and sisters, Glenda Farmer of Newport and JoAnn Walker of Covington.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Bellevue. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate.

Robert Adrian Fisk, 76, of Portland, Ore., formerly of Independence, died Thursday in Tualatin, Ore. He was a salesman with several freight companies and a volunteer with Meals on Wheels. His wife, Marjorie Fisk, died in 1995.

Survivors include sons, Jim Fisk of Warrenton, Ore., and Robert A. Fisk II of Portland, Ore.; daughters, Nora Campbell of Lake Oswego, Ore., and Vicki Zacharias of Oregon City, Ore.; brothers, R. C. Fisk of Dry Ridge and M. D. Fisk of Cincinnati; sisters, Eulah Durr and Beulah Pelley, both of Independence, and Nina Hopperton of Dry Ridge; and three grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Riverview Abbey Funeral Home, Portland. Entombment will be in Riverview Abbey Mausoleum, Portland.

Wesley Hale, 79, died at 3:29 a.m. today at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South in Edgewood.

Arrangements are pending at Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia.

Delores Hyde, 67, of Dry Ridge, died Saturday at Grant Manor, Williamstown. She was a retired caregiver for the elderly and a homemaker, and a member of Sherman, Ky., Full Gospel Assembly.

Survivors include a son, Wayne Leroy Hyde of Dry Ridge; daughters, Joyce Ann Morgan of Crittenden, Rose Mary Gordon, Tina Mae Ballard and Karen Kay Yates, all of Dry Ridge; brothers, Leroy Elliott of Dry Ridge, Charles Elliott of Corbin, J. T. Elliott of Kentucky, James Elliott of Covington and Robert Elliott of Cordova; sisters, Frances Hess of Ohio, Samantha Martin of Williamstown, Audra Faye Turner of Union, Mildred Conrad of Grant County and Brenda Elliott of Kentucky; 19 grandchildren; and 11 great- grandchildren.

Memorial services will be at the convenience of the family. Cremation will be at Baxter Cremation Co., Cincinnati. Eckler-Hudson Funeral Home, Dry Ridge, is handling arrangements.

Martha Engelhardt Ivers, 78, of Covington, died Tuesday at Lakeside Place Nursing Home, Highland Heights. She was a retired executive secretary with Senco Corp. in Newtown, Ohio.

Survivors include her husband, Victor Ivers; and a brother, William Engelhardt, of Mexico.

Services will be at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Madisonville, Ohio, Masonic Cemetery. Cooper Funeral Home, Grants Lick, is handling arrangements.

Douglas R. Jourdan, 60, of Fort Thomas, died at 4:10 p.m. Friday at his home. He was a traffic and plant manager with Chester Labs Inc., Cincinnati, and a Navy veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce Schierer Jourdan; daughter, Tracy Jourdan of Cold Spring; son, Scott Jourdan of Fort Thomas; sisters, Linda Jourdan and Dianna Klette, both of Dayton, Wilma Kincaid, Alexandria and Charlotte Caster, Melbourne; a brother, Donald Jourdan of Dayton; and four grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Stephen Church, Newport. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Prayers will be at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas. Christine E. Lewis, 77, of Erlanger, died at 5:51 a.m. Sunday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. She was a retired office manager with Dr. Harry Meyer in Cincinnati, and a member of Erlanger Baptist Church. She was a former Girl Scout volunteer. Her first husband, James Ralph Massey, died in 1956. Her second husband, William Jerry Lewis, died on Oct. 15.

Survivors include a daughter, Nancy Rogers of Erlanger; a brother, Richard Wood of Newport; a sister, Margaret Flaig of Cincinnati; and one grandson.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Stith Funeral Home, Florence. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Hill Crest Cemetery, Dry Ridge. Memorials are suggested to Licking Valley Girl Scout Council, 607 Watson Road, Erlanger, Ky. 41018.

Lillie Mae Manning, 89, of Covington, died at 4:30 a.m. Saturday at Carmel Manor Nursing Home, Fort Thomas. She was a retired seamstress with Beau Brummel Tie Co., Cincinnati, and a member of Crescent Springs Baptist Church. Her husband, Homer Manning, died in 1989.

Survivors include daughters, Patsy Knoeringer and Emma Tomlin, both of Ludlow, and Lula Rose Picklesimer of Elsmere; a sister, Mary Ellen Corum of Knoxville; 11 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home, Ludlow. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill. Memorials are suggested to Carmel Manor Nursing Home, 100 Carmel Manor Road, Fort Thomas, Ky. 41075.

Michael Parker Jr., 67, of Glencoe, died of cancer Friday at his home. He was a retired Cincinnati police lieutenant, having served with the department for 33 years, and an Army veteran of the Korean War.

Survivors include his wife, Peggie Parker; a son, Don Parker of Cincinnati; daughters, Michelle Preston of Cincinnati and Peggie Rampulla of Wapakoneta, Ohio; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Carlton-Lowder Funeral Home, Warsaw. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Glencoe Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the hospice of the donor's choice, or Make A Wish Foundation, 100 W. Clarendon, Phoenix, Ariz. 85013.

Porter A. Thomas, 93, of Erlanger, died at 1:10 a.m. Friday at Veterans Administration Medical Center, Dayton, Ohio. He was a new car manager with Johnson Chevrolet in Dallas, Texas, and a Navy veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Rose Lee Thomas; a son, Richard Thomas of Farmers Branch, Texas; a daughter, Geraldine Maltoner of Verona; a sister, Mable McKinney of Lexington; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Catchen Funeral Home, Elsmere. Visitation will begin there at 9 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill. Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice.

Eugene Foster "Ty" Tyson, 71, of Cynthiana, died Saturday at Harrison Memorial Hospital in Cynthiana. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Cynthiana, and the National Rifle Association.

Survivors include an aunt, Sue Williams of Cynthiana; and an uncle, Charles "Pee Wee" Whalen of Cynthiana.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Ware Funeral Home, Cynthiana. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m.

Golden Farley Yung, 85, of Newport, died Saturday at Batavia Nursing Home, Batavia, Ohio. She was a homemaker. Her husband, William John Yung Jr., preceded her in death.

Survivors include daughters, Jackie Kroll of Hadley, Mass., and Joyce Embs of Fort Thomas; a brother, Rev. John D. Farley of Fort Mitchell; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Radel Funeral Home, Highland Heights. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate.
