Centenarian Rebecca Campbell Bush

Rebecca Campbell Bush always thought it would be interesting to live in three different centuries.

The 103-year-old homemaker from Owenton came up just about six weeks short of her goal.

"We were hoping she would make it (to the millennium)," said her stepson, Wallace Bush. "It would have been unique, but it didn't work out that way." Mrs. Bush died Thursday at Owen County Memorial Hospital.

Born in 1896 in Grapevine, Ky., Mrs. Bush met her husband, Noel, a father of five, in Cincinnati.

They were married in 1942 and lived the rest of their lives as a farming family in Owen County.

"She filled in the gap there for all of us," Bush said. "She was good to the family."

Her husband died in 1988 and two sons, Charles Elmore Bush and Harry Bush, died in 1948 and 1986, respectively.

His stepmother was always positive, Bush recalled.

"She had a very good attitude," he said. "She lived a pretty good life."
