Shirley Ann Neeley, good role model

Shirley Ann Neeley was a woman of quiet dignity who raised 10 children without fuss or fanfare.

Mrs. Neeley encouraged her children to attend school and respect themselves. And, while the family struggled at times to make ends meet, she was a good role model, said Debbie Elliott, a daughter who lives in Erlanger.

"She was always understanding and thoughtful and listened to what you had to say. She was a great mother," she said.

Mrs. Neeley, 59, of Burlington, died Tuesday at her residence. A homemaker, she was originally from Bromley.

Mrs. Neeley had been ill for several years, but enjoyed being with her 20 grandchildren when she could, Mrs. Elliott said.

Besides Mrs. Elliott, Mrs. Neeley is survived by daughters Kimberly Sebree of Erlanger, Tammy Finnell of Georgetown, Theresa Kemper of Pendleton County, Ruby Davis of Burlington, April Couch of Taylor Mill; sons, Jack Neeley Jr. and David Neeley of Burlington, Mark Neeley of Taylor Mill, Matt Neeley of Florence; and 20 grandchildren.

Private services will be at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Becknell Family Cemetery, Boonesville. Linnemann Funeral Home, Burlington, is handling arrangements.

Mary McGinnis David of Fort Thomas died Wednesday at St. Luke Hospital East in Fort Thomas. She was a retired assistant permit chief for the Ohio State Department of Liquor Control and a member of Columbus, Ohio, Writers Guild. Survivors include a sister, Katherine Broadbent of Cincinnati.

Services will be at noon Monday at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Covington, with visitation from 10 a.m. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Memorials are suggested to American Heart Association, 2936 Vernon Place, Cincinnati, Ohio 45219, or American Cancer Society, 6612 Dixie Highway, Suite 2, Florence, Ky. 41042.

Ronald Jack Deinlein, 69, of Fort Thomas, died Friday at his residence. He was a retired engineer for Allied Signal, Phoenix, and an Army veteran of the Korean War.

Survivors include his wife, Audrey Deinlein of Fort Thomas; sons, Christopher E. Deinlein of Fort Thomas, Paul E. Deinlein of Indianapolis and Ronald J. Deinlein of Bloomington, Ind.; a sister, Marlene Evans of Fort Thomas; and 11 grandchildren.

Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, Fort Thomas; burial in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Northern Kentucky, 1403 Alexandria Pike, Fort Thomas 41075; or Wood Hudson Cancer Research, 931 Isabella St., Newport 41071.

Rick L. Ford, 49, of Williamstown, died Tuesday from injuries sustained in a two-vehicle accident on southbound I-75 in Grant County. He was a self-employed auto mechanic.

Survivors include his wife, Mae Barber Ford; sons, Ricky Lynn Ford Jr. of Williamstown, Mark Turner of Walters, Okla., and Billy Barber of Bennington, Ind.; brothers, Frank Ford of Warsaw and Donnie R. Ford of Lawton, Okla.; and sisters, Betty Julick of Warsaw and Linda Sayah of Covington.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Williamstown, with visitation 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Williamstown Cemetery.

Clyde Lee Hamm, 67, of Maysville, died Wednesday in an automobile accident on Ky. 9 in Maysville. A retired painter for General Motors, Norwood, Ohio, and a farmer, he attended Lewisburg Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Jane Purcell Hamm; sons, Mike Hamm of Maysville, Rick Hamm of May's Lick; a daughter, Sue Doyle of Aberdeen, Ohio; brothers, Bobby Hamm and James Hamm of Maysville, Ivan Hamm of Independence; sisters, Rose Hamm of Aberdeen, Ohio, and Edna Barbee, Sue Hamm and Mae Tucker of Maysville; seven grandchildren, one great-grandchild.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Brell and Son Funeral Home, Maysville, with visitation after 5 this evening at the funeral home. Burial will be in May's Lick Cemetery.

Leonard Gordon Hendrix, 67, of Warsaw, died Friday at Gallatin County Health Care Center. He was a retired administrator and director of pupil personnel for the Gallatin County Board of Education and an Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of Warsaw Christian Church and Retired Teachers Association.

His wife, Juanita Hendrix, died in 1998. Survivors include a daughter, Laura Hansen of Warsaw; a brother, J. Norbert Hendrix of Melbourne, Fla.; and two grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at Carlton-Lowder Funeral Home, Warsaw, with visitation from 5 to 9 tonight. Burial will be in Warsaw Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Warsaw Christian Church, c/o Carlton-Lowder Funeral Home, P.O. Box 884, Warsaw, Ky. 41095, or Hospice of Northern Kentucky, 1403 Alexandria Pike, Fort Thomas, Ky. 41075.

Paul F. Hicks Sr., 77, of Alexandria, died Thursday at St. Luke Hospital East in Fort Thomas. He was retired from the U.S. Postal Service, Cincinnati, and an Army veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Hicks; a son, Paul Hicks Jr. of Fort Mitchell; daughters, Carol Akita of Milford, Ohio, Annette Johnson of Moline, Ill., Jennifer Hartley of Burtonsville, Md., and Michelle Caudill of Alexandria; stepsons, Stephen Walters of Boulder, Colo., Gary Walters and Michael Enzweiler of Alexandria, Stacy Enzweiler of Camp Springs and Jim Walters of Highland Heights; brothers, Neal Hicks of Lakeland, Fla., and Patrick Hicks of Richmond, Calif.; 15 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Main Street Baptist Church, Alexandria, with visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday. Burial will be in Alexandria Cemetery. Alexandria Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Christine King, 86, of Ludlow, died Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North Hospice in Covington. She was a homemaker and a member of Oakland Christian Church, Pendleton County, and Ludlow Hobo Club.

Her husband, Cecil King, died in 1988. A son, Larry King, died in 1968. Survivors include sons, Robert King of Louisville and Donnie King of Elsmere; daughters, Mary Cundiff of Richwood and Shirley Haley of Newport; 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home, Ludlow, with visitation from 11:30 a.m. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger.

Shirley King, 63, of Florence, died Friday at her residence.

Arrangements are pending at Woodhead Funeral Home, Falmouth.

Joseph Daniel Longoria, 12, of Demossville, died Wednesday after being hit by a vehicle while riding his bike on Madison Pike near Piner. He was a seventh-grader at Twenhofel Middle School in Kenton County and a member of Sherman Full Gospel Church, Grant County; South Kenton Nittany Lions Football Team; Piner Booster Basketball Team; Taylor Mill Booster Baseball Team; and Taylor Mill Afterschool Art Program.

Survivors include his parents, Joe and Brendeen Allred Longoria of Demossville; a sister, Sophia Mariel of Walton; brothers, Jesse Longoria and Codie Longoria, at home; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Santi-Ivins of Utah, Mr. and Mrs. Garry Allred of Jacksonville, Fla., and Mr. and Mrs. Brent Winward of Salt Lake City; and great-grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. J.T. Allred of Duncan, Okla.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Sherman Full Gospel Church, Grant County, with visitation from 4 to 9 p.m. Monday. Burial will be in Independence Cemetery. The public is invited to bring a dish to share at the church after services.

Memorials are suggested to Joseph Longoria Memorial Fund, c/o Firstar Bank, 5262 Madison Pike, Independence, Ky. 41051. Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Independence, is handling arrangements.

Violet Edwards "Vi" McKittrick, 70, of Batesville, Miss., died Friday at Methodist Central Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. She was a retired public-school music teacher and a member of First United Methodist Church, Batesville.

Survivors include her husband, Glenn McKittrick; a daughter, Amanda McKittrick Neal of Jackson, Miss.; sons, Harry McKittrick of Sherman Oaks, Calif., Danny Ray McKittrick of Cumberland, Miss., and Pat McKittrick of Batesville, Miss.; sisters, Barbara Edwards Dye and Helen Edwards Elliston of Hebron, and Lucille Edwards Turner of Florence; and seven grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at First United Methodist Church, Batesville. Visitation will be from 5:30 to 7:30 tonight at Wells Funeral Home, Batesville, Miss. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery, Batesville.

Evelyn Mounts, 76, of St. Cloud, Fla., formerly of Independence, died Thursday at her residence. She was a retired secretary and a member of Faith Baptist Church, Kissimmee, Fla.

Survivors include a son, Gary Mounts of St. Cloud; a daughter, Bonnie Duncan of St. Cloud; and two grandchildren.

No services are planned. Grissom Funeral Home and Crematory, Kissimmee, is in charge.

Carol Robbins, 49, of Independence, died Thursday at her home. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, Ron Robbins; daughters, Shannon Black of Taylor Mill and Ashley Watson and Kelsey Robbins of Independence; sons, Chad Watson and Tyler Robbins of Independence; her mother, Connie Goodlet of Lexington; and one grandchild.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Northern Kentucky Baptist Church, Lakeside Park, with visitation 5 to 9 p.m. Monday. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger. Memorials are suggested to Northern Kentucky Baptist Church Building Fund, 2681 Turkeyfoot Road, Lakeside Park, Ky. 41017, or St. Elizabeth Hospice, 401 E. 20th St., Covington, Ky. 41014. Mary Susan Robinson, 82, of Walton, died Wednesday at Grant Manor Health Care Center in Williamstown. She was a retired employee of Clopay Corp., Cincinnati. Her husband, William H. Robinson, died in 1990. Survivors include brothers, Ike Stephens of Owenton and Joe Stephens of Bellevue, a sister, Sarah Dunekley of Newport.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Radel Funeral Home, Newport, with visitation from 10 a.m. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.

Glenn A. "Bud" Scroggins, 72, of Williamstown, died Friday at Grant Manor Health Care Center in Williamstown. He was a retired maintenance worker for the Kentucky Department of Highways, Williamstown office, and a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of Williamstown Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Rosella Blackburn Scroggins of Williamstown; a son, Austin D. Scroggins of Williamstown; a brother, Curtis Scroggins of Newport; and one grandchild.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Williamstown, with visitation 4 to 8 p.m. Monday. Burial will be in New Vine Run Cemetery, Dry Ridge. Memorials are suggested to Williamstown Baptist Church, 214 N. Main St., Williamstown, Ky. 41097.

Mary Sue Seissiger, 64, of Highland Heights, died Friday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North Hospice in Covington. She was a diamondologist for Monmouth Jewelers, Newport, and had worked for St. Charles Care Center, Covington.

Survivors include a son, Joseph Seissiger of Houston; daughters, Kia Fedotoff of Highland Heights, Teresa Dyer of Covington and Anna L. Arduser of Southgate; a brother, David Bankemper of Boynton, Fla.; a sister, Ann Bankemper of Boynton, Fla.; eight grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Alexandria Funeral Home. Cremation will be at Hillside Chapel, Cincinnati. Memorials are suggested to Animal Adoption Program, c/o Highland Heights Animal Hospital, 2717 Alexandria Pike, Highland Heights, Ky. 41076. Alexandria Funeral Home is in charge.

Danielle Marie Steffen, 10, of Independence, died Thursday at Children's Hospital Medical Center in Cincinnati after being struck by a vehicle Wednesday on Madison Pike as she was walking to Summit View Elementary School, where she was a fourth-grader.

Survivors include her father, Ron Steffen of Cold Spring; her mother, Tammy Cook of Independence; sisters, Ashley Murphy of Batavia, Ohio, Kaitlyn Steffen of Cold Spring and Cristina Case of Melbourne; grandparents, Bob Samson and Ron Steffen of Cold Spring, Shar Rose of Melbourne and Linda Samson of Highland Heights; and great-grandparents, Alvina Steffen of Cold Spring, Clarence and Emily Stratton of Fort Thomas and Carroll Parker of California. Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Church, Cold Spring, with visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Cold Spring. Memorials are suggested to Summit View Elementary School, 5002 Madison Pike, Independence, Ky. 41051.

Margaret Vail, 90, of Fort Thomas, died Thursday at Rosedale Manor in Latonia.

She was a homemaker and a member of Christ Church United Church of Christ, Fort Thomas.

Survivors include a daughter, Nancy McEntire of Fort Thomas; a son, Richard Vail of Bellevue; and five grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. today at Dobbling Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate. Memorials are suggested to a charity of donor's choice.

Sarah Hall Vaughn, 62, of Union, died Friday at St. Luke Hospital West in Florence. She was a homemaker.

Her husband, Irvin B. Scroggins, died in 1978.

Survivors include her father, Conley Hall of Florence; brothers, Conley Lee Hall of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Glenn Hall of Houston; and sisters, Marzella Holland of Union, Loretta Lewis and Blanche Wright, both of Hebron, and Lillian Starkey of St. Petersburg, Fla.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Stith Funeral Home, Florence. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.
