Juanita Weathers taught, worked for church missions

Juanita Weathers spent her life teaching and practicing the word of God as the wife of an Assembly of God minister.

Mrs. Weathers and her husband, Rev. Hardie Gene Weathers, were joint pastors in Waco, Texas, for 53 years.

"My mother was always at my father's side. She had her own ministries and worked with the people," said her daughter, GayNell Keith of Florence.

Mrs. Weathers, 87, died Friday at her home in Florence.

Mrs. Weathers had a passion for missions and raised thousands of dollars for mission work, said her daughter, whose husband, Rev. Cleddie Keith, is pastor of Heritage Fellowship Church in Florence.

Rev. Hardie Weathers died in 1990, and Mrs. Weathers moved to Northern Kentucky.

"She saw we had a need, and she went to work," said Rev. Keith.

Mrs. Weathers became the food management supervisor for the Heritage Academy in Florence.

"She took care of all the children and the teachers. She was like a mother to them," Rev. Keith said.

The 400 students at the school called Mrs. Weathers "Memaw."

"She had an incredible sense of humor, and she had the most endearing personality of anybody I've ever met," Rev. Keith said. "She was a strong lady, and she had a deep faith."

Other survivors include a brother, Rev. Warren Litzman of Dallas; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 7 p.m. Monday at Heritage Assembly of God Church, Florence. Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. Monday at the church. Burial will be in Rosemound Cemetery, Waco, Texas.

Memorials are suggested to Heritage Academy, 7216 Highway 42, Florence, Ky. 41042.

Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Florence, is handling arrangements.

Mary Catherine Bittel, 76, of Ballston Lake, N.Y., formerly of Fort Mitchell and Covington, died Monday at St. Mary's Hospital in Troy, N.Y. She was a retired teacher with Chango Elementary School in Shenendahowa, N.Y., and a member of Corpus Christi Church, Clifton Park, N.Y.

Survivors include sons, John C. Bittel of Columbus, Ohio, James B. Bittel of Oxford, Ohio, Patrick J. Bittel of Watervliet, N.Y., and Daniel V. Bittel of Ballston Lake; daughters, Maureen R. Bittel and Jo Marie Livingston of Huntington Beach, Calif., Jennifer Bittel of Bakersfield, Calif., and Anitra Santoro of Ballston Lake; and four grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Mary Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Memorials are suggested to Parkinson's Disease Foundation, 710 W. 168th St., N.Y., N.Y., 10032. Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Covington, is handling arrangements.

Anthony Earl Boyers, 87, of Dayton, Ohio, formerly of Newport, died Thursday in Dayton. He was retired from Rusk Heating and Air Conditioning, Covington. He was a Navy veteran. He was a member of Lawler Hanlon VFW Post, Newport.

Daughters Joan Boyers, Dottie Boyers and Earline Jansen all preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Boyers of Bristol, Tenn.; a daughter, Betty Smith of Dayton, Ohio; a son, Anthony Earl Boyers Jr. of Springfield, Ohio; eight grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Memorial Mass of Christian burial will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday at St. Stephen Church, Newport. Burial will be in Dayton, Ohio. Memorials are suggested to St. Stephen Church, 825 Washington Ave., Newport, Ky. 41071. Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Newport, is handling arrangements.

Emma Wolfe Brewer, 102, formerly of Falmouth, died Thursday at Millers Merry Manor in Wakarusa, Ind.

Her first husband, Samuel Brewer, died in 1913. Her second husband, Riley Brewer, died in 1977.

Survivors include sons, Terrill Brewer of Nappanee, Ind., and James Brewer of Nitro, W.Va.; 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Woodhead Funeral Home, Falmouth, with visitation from 5 to 9 p.m. today and from noon Sunday. Burial will be in Pythian Grove Cemetery, Harrison County. Memorials are suggested to charity of donor's choice.

Joseph Earl Buerkley Sr., 73, of Foster, died Thursday at ExtendaCare in Augusta. He was a retired welder for Butler Products and a member of cemetery Chapel Christian Church, Lenoxburg.

Survivors include his wife, Freda A. White Buerkley; daughters, Janice Ingatovich of Florence and Emma Darlene Smithers of Augusta; a son, Joseph Earl Buerkley Jr. of Falmouth; brothers, James Miller of Brookville, Ind., and Bert Galloway of Brooksville; a sister, Katherine Loar of Dayton, Ohio; a foster sister, Shirley Wolfe of Lenoxburg; and five grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Moore and Parker Funeral Home, Brooksville, with visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. today. Burial will be in Brooksville Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to charity of choice.

Raymond Colvin Chiles, 85, of Lexington, formerly of Pendleton County, died Thursday at his residence.

He was a retired insurance agent for Lincoln Income Life Insurance Co., Fayette Insurance Agency and Western Pioneer Life Insurance Co. He was a member of Short Creek Baptist Church, Falmouth, United Commercial Travelers and Scottish Rite. He formerly served as a Sunday school teacher for Woodland Christian Church.

His wife, Mildred Newkirk Chiles, preceded him in death. Survivors include a son, Kirk Lee Chiles of Lexington; and three grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Peoples Funeral Home, Falmouth. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home, Lexington, and from 1 p.m. until time of services Monday at Peoples. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Falmouth. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of the Bluegrass, 2312 Alexandria Drive, Lexington, Ky. 40504.

James L. Clark, 80, of Newport, died Thursday at St. Luke Hospital East in Fort Thomas. He a retired custodian for the Newport Post Office and an Army veteran of World War II, during which he received the Purple Heart and the Silver Star. His wife, Margaret Clark, preceded him in death.

Survivors include sons, James M. Clark and Edward Clark, both of Newport, and Dennis Clark of Hebron; daughters, Brenda Aburubeha and Nan Schulkers of Newport; six brothers; nine sisters; 13 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Radel Funeral Home, Newport, with visitation from9 a.m. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate. Memorials are suggested to Ryan Finck Fund, 11 Driftwood Court, Alexandria, Ky. 41001.

Helen L. Coleman, 69, of Erlanger, died Friday at her residence.

Arrangements are pending at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Erlanger.

Faye Collopy, 61, of Fort Thomas, died at 12:57 a.m. Friday at St. Luke Hospital East in Fort Thomas. She was a retired receptionist for Dr. Paul Kappas and a volunteer for Headstart in Newport.

Survivors include her husband, Joe E. Collopy; daughters, Debbie Mills of Pendleton County, Donna Gilchrist of Southgate and Barbara Johnson of Highland Heights; a son, Joe J. Collopy of Fort Thomas; sisters, Margie Vincent of Fort Worth, Texas, and Freda Abney of Independence; brothers, Vernon Watson of Highland Heights, and Carl Watson and Sterling Watson of Newport; and 15 grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Catherine of Siena Church, Fort Thomas. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Fort Thomas, with prayers at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas. Memorials are suggested to American Diabetes Association, 8899 Brookside Ave., West Chester, Ohio 45103.

James Higgins Elliott, 48, of Dry Ridge, died Wednesday at his residence. He was a former truck driver and a member of Teamsters Union Local 651.

Survivors include his wife, Debbie Elliott; daughters, Jodi Lynn Elliott of Walton and Amanda Lynn Elliott, Ashley Nichole Elliott and Brittany Michelle Elliott of Burlington; sons, James Patrick Elliott of Walton and Christopher James Elliott of Burlington; his mother, Esther Cecelia Elliott of Dry Ridge; brothers, David Michael Elliott and Thomas Xavier Elliott, both of Dry Ridge, Jacque Elliott of Crittenden and Timothy Wayne Elliott of Warsaw; and one grandchild.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. today at Carlton-Lowder Funeral Home, Warsaw, with visitation at 9 a.m. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Warsaw.

Nola A. Fagaly, 63, of Ross, Ohio, died Friday at Hospice of Cincinnati in Blue Ash, Ohio. She was retired from Champion Paper Co. She was former president of Hamilton Habitat for Humanity and Champion GO Girls. She was a member of St. Aloysius Church, Shandon, Ohio; founding member of Morgan Ross Athletic Association; and former leader for Butler County 4-H.

Survivors include daughters, Melinda Kushniroff of Southgate and Jodi Stacey of Cincinnati; sons, Steven Fagaly of Ross, Ohio, and Douglas Fagaly of Fairfield, Ohio; brothers, Ray Hesselbrock and Carl Hesselbrock of Okeana, Ohio; sisters, Alta Poirier of Franklin, Ohio, and Rita Vonderhaar of Camden, Ohio; and four grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Aloysius Church, Shandon, Ohio. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Young Funeral Home, Ross, Ohio. Burial will be in St. Aloysius Cemetery, Shandon, Ohio. Memorials are suggested to Hamilton Habitat for Humanity, 236 N. Second St., Hamilton, Ohio, 45011.

William Hodgett, 71, of Sparta, died Thursday at his residence. He was retired from the Kentucky Highway Department. A son, William Walter Hodgett, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Lela "Sis" Hodgett; a daughter, Sheila McEntire of Sparta; a son, William R. Hodgett of Sparta; and sisters, Ann Glore of Sparta and Janie Scott of Aurora, Ind.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Carlton-Lowder Funeral Home, Warsaw, with visitation 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be in Warsaw Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Northern Kentucky, 1403 Alexandria Pike, Fort Thomas, Ky. 41075.

Virginia Matt, 78, of Newport, died Wednesday at her residence. She was a homemaker and a member of the St. Francis Altar Society. Her husband, John Matt, died in 1988.

Survivors include daughters, Chrissy Hill of Norwood, Ohio, and Nancy Lyons of New Middletown, Ohio; sons, Jack Matt of Dayton, Michael Matt of Newport and Ron Matt of Highland Heights; a brother, Elmore Giese of Cincinnati; 17 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday at St. Stephen Church, Newport. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas. Memorials are suggested to American Heart Association, 2936 Vernon Place, Cincinnati, Ohio 45219.

Louise M. Riggs, 88, formerly of Florence, died at 9:55 a.m. Friday at St. Charles Center in Covington. Arrangements are pending at Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger.

Elenora M. Schwartz, 94, of Covington, died Friday at St. Luke Hospital West in Florence. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Wilfred Schwartz, died in 1963. Survivors include a son, Wilfred Schwartz of Covington; a daughter, Elenora Sanders of Covington; seven grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Catchen and Son Funeral Home, Covington, with visitation 5 to 9 p.m. Monday. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.

Alexander Paul Smith, 10 months, of Cold Spring, died Thursday at his residence.

Survivors include his parents, Carol A. Hellmann Smith and Scott W. Smith; a sister, Allison Smith at home; a brother, Andrew Smith at home; grandpar- ents, Loretta Hellmann of Park Hills, and Judy and Les Smith of Cold Spring; and great-grandparents, Garnet Jones of Independence, and Cleo and Pete Smith of Cold Spring.

Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church, Cold Spring, with visitation will at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Moth er of God Cemetery, Fort Wright. Jessie Eileen Stumpf, 87, of Alexandria, died Thursday at St. Luke Hospital East in Fort Thomas. She was a homemaker.

Her husband, Mathias Stumpf, died in 1987. Survivors include sons, Robert M. Stumpf of Altamonte Springs, Fla., and Don W. Stumpf of San Diego; daughters, Eileen Woeste of Alexandria and Joyce Veleno of St. Petersburg, Fla.; a sister, Georgianna Krull of Cincinnati; 12 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and two great-great- grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Mary Church, Alexandria. Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Alexandria Funeral Home. Burial will be in Alexandria Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to St. Charles Care Center, 500 Farrell Drive, Covington, Ky. 41011.

Cassandra "Cassie" Work, 15 months, of Butler, died Friday at Marymount Medical Center in London.

Arrangements are pending at Woodhead Funeral Home, Falmouth.

Ludi Esmuel Yates, 76, of Covington, died Friday at her residence. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Charles W. Yates, died in 1997.

Survivors include sons, Steve Campbell of Covington, Bob Campbell of Dayton, Ohio, Charles G. Yates of Taylor Mill and Will Yates of Erlanger; daughters, Donna Kinman of Dry Ridge, Joyce Hayes of Richwood, Marian Johnson of Covington and Dorene Robbins of Florence; a brother, James D. Fletcher of Cincinnati; 19 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Mount Pisgah Methodist Church, Dry Ridge. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Catchen and Son Funeral Home, Covington. Burial will be in Mount Pisgah Methodist Cemetery, Dry Ridge.
