Ralph A. Thornton, loved family, his work

Ralph A. Thornton III took pride in two aspects of his life: his family and his work.

And while he worked hard all of his life as an artist who made monuments for businesses, families and organizations, he managed to find time to be present for his children and his grandchildren, said a son, Chris D. Thornton of Columbus, Ohio.

"He was a genuine good guy," Chris Thornton said. "At Christmas, when I was a kid, he would give my friends money. I remember we had class floats at his house. He was really into being a father. And he's a super grandfather and great to our kids."

Mr. Thornton, 58, of Villa Hills, died at 4:10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit Covington after suffering from cancer.

He was vice president of Lewin Monument Co. in Fort Mitchell for 31 years. He designed the Veterans' Memorial in Erlanger.

Other survivors include his wife, Martha Graue Thornton; another son, Ralph A. "Quad" Thornton IV of Woodstock, Ga.;a daughter, Beth A. Hodapp of St. Augustine, Fla.; a brother, David Thornton of Villa Hills; a sister, Linda Thomas of Fort Mitchell; and four grandchildren.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Grace Episcopal Church, Florence. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in Mother of God Cemetery, Fort Wright. Memorials are suggested to St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington, or American Cancer Society, Florence, Ky. Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger, is handling arrangements.

Hazel Scott Adams, 82, of Covington, died Saturday at St. Luke Hospital West in Florence. She was a retired prep cook for Brothers 3, Cincinnati. Her husband, Carl Adams; a son, Billy Adams; and a daughter, Ruby Rhods, preceded her in death.

Survivors include daughters, Pat Rose of Covington and Bonnie Gerwe of Taylor Mill; a son, Bob Adams of Union; brothers, Marvin Price of Latonia and Paul Price of Twentynine Palms, Calif.; 18 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Services were this morning at Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger. Burial was in Hopeful Cemetery, Florence.

Lee Edward Cahill, 68, of Independence, died of cancer Tuesday at his home. He was a retired truckdriver with O. K. Trucking Co., and a member of St. Cecilia Church in Independence and Teamsters Union Local No. 100, Cincinnati.

Survivors include his wife, Betty McMillin Cahill; sons, Greg Cahill of Ryland Heights and Jeff Cahill of Independence; a daughter, Pamela Cahill Butsch of Edgewood; a brother, Joe Cahill of Independence; and five grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Cecilia Church. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Independence. Burial will be in St. Cecilia Church Cemetery, Independence. Memorials are suggested to St. Cecilia Church, 5313 Madison, Independence, Ky. 41051; or St. Elizabeth Home-Health Hospice, 401 E. 20th St., Covington, Ky. 41014.

V. Margaret Goodridge, 90, of Hebron, died at 6:18 p.m. Monday at Woodspoint Nursing Home, Florence. She was a retired secretary with Kreidler Insurance Co., and a member of Florence Christian Church; Queen Esther Court No. 21 Order of Amaranth; Covington Shrine No. 10 Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem; Emera Chapter No. 392 Order of the Eastern Star; and the Boone County Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution.

Survivors include cousins.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Hebron. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with an Order of the Eastern Star service at 7:30 p.m. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger. Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice.

Pete Gosekamp, 81, of Latonia, died at 1:14 a.m. Saturday at his son's home in Charlestown, N.H. He was a retired truck driver with Kirschner Trucking Co., Cincinnati, and a member of Holy Cross Church in Latonia. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 203 in Latonia, and an Army veteran of World War II. His wife, Carol Marie Gosekamp, died on Sept. 4, 1998.

Survivors include a son, Mike Gosekamp of Charlestown; and three grandchildren.

Memorial Mass of Christian burial will be at 9 a.m. Thursday at Holy Cross Church. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill. Memorials are suggested to Connecticut Valley Home Care Hospice, 958 John Stark Highway, Newport, N.H. 03773. Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia, is handling arrangements.

John R. Kadon, 64, of Fort Thomas, died Tuesday at his home. He was a self-employed technical writer.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret Kadon; a daughter, Krista Kadon, at home; a son, Erik Kadon of Cincinnati; and a brother, Karl Kadon of Cincinnati.

Services will be at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas. Memorials are suggested to American Heart Association, 1885 Dixie Highway, Suite 250, Fort Wright, Ky. 41011. Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Fort Thomas, is handling arrangements.

Kathleen "Katie" Wood Kelly, 81, of Taylor Mill, died at 1:20 p.m. Tuesday at Deaconess Hospital, Cincinnati. She was a former school teacher at Grand Avenue School in Taylor Mill, and Independence schools. She was a member of Latonia Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school.

Survivors include her husband, Kenneth Kelly; daughters, Brenda Fauber and Debbie Howard, both of Edgewood, Rita Penn of Lexington and Marilyn Coppage of Walton; a brother, Douglas Wood of Williamstown; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Swindler and Currin Funeral Home, Latonia. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill. Memorials are suggested to Latonia Baptist Church Building Fund, 38th and Church Sts., Covington, Ky. 41015; or American Cancer Society, 7730 U.S. 42, Suite C6, Florence, Ky. 41042.

Ronald Joseph Klug Sr., 63, of Loveland, Ohio, formerly of Covington, died Monday at Hospice of Cincinnati. He was a computer systems specialist with the Federal Aviation Administration, and a member of St. Andrews Church in Milford, Ohio. He was a member of the MARC Ham Radio Club of Milford and an Air Force veteran of the Korean War.

Survivors include his wife, Sarah "Sally" Maury Klug; daughters, Nancy Klug of Loveland and Maury Blankenship of Richmond, Va.; a son, Joe Klug of Cincinnati; his mother, Irene Finke Klug of Park Hills; sisters, Cynthia Hieneke of Alexandria, Janet Blank of Carrollton, Nancy Deglow of Boone County and Karen Lyn Riegler of Union; brothers, Jerald Klug of Independence, Kenneth Klug of Park Hills and Timothy Klug of Taylor Mill; and three granddaughters.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. John Church, Covington. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Covington. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society, 7730 U.S. 42, Suite C6, Florence, Ky. 41042; or Hospice of Cincinnati, 4310 Cooper Road, Cincinnati, Ohio 45242.

Lauren Elizabeth Prather, daughter of Paul D. Prather and Alicia Adams of Bromley, was stillborn at 4:25 a.m. Tuesday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas.

Other survivors include a brother, Andrew Prather, at home; grandparents, Maryjo Prather of Covington, Kathy Little of Villa Hills and Russell Adams of Bromley; and great-grandparents, Robert and Pat Wren of Covington.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Memorials are suggested to American Diabetes Association, 8899 Brookside Ave., West Chester, Ohio 45069. Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home, Ludlow, is handling arrangements.

Ernest B. Prince, 77, of Covington, died Tuesday at Good Samaritan Hospital, Cincinnati.

Arrangements are pending at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Taylor Mill.

Ernest Cray Rothfuss, 49, of Ludlow, died at 4:10 p.m. Sunday at his home. He was a disabled employee of Hosea Worldwide.

Survivors include a daughter, Mary Ann Rothfuss of Independence; brothers, Garry Rothfuss of Ludlow and Robert Rothfuss of Latonia; sisters, Billie Jean Inabnit and Peggy Lovitt, both of Elsmere, Ruth Reilly of Grant County, Sandy Harrington of Waco, Rebecca Dues of Erlanger, Patricia Rothfuss of Covington and Lesia Harrington of Walton.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Covington. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger.

Effie Elizabeth Smith, 80, of Florence, died Monday at Woodspoint Nursing Home in Florence. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include a daughter, Carol Rider; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Burlington. Cremation will be at East Bend Cemetery, Boone County.

Terry St. John, 57, of California, died at 3:17 a.m. Tuesday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. He was a retired truck driver with the Cincinnati Enquirer and a member of Teamsters Union Local No. 100, Cincinnati.

Survivors include his wife, Rita Bezold St. John; sons, Tony St. John of Alexandria and Phillip St. John of California; daughters, Jane St. John and Catherine St. John, both of California, and Maria St. John of Dayton; a brother, Gene St. John of Cold Spring; sisters, Bernice Marksberry of Houston and Alice Muench of Erlanger; and three grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Alexandria Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Alexandria Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Redwood Rehabilitation Center, 71 Orphanage Road, Fort Mitchell, Ky. 41017.

Clark Thomas, 87, of Mount Auburn, died Tuesday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas.

Arrangements are pending at Peoples Funeral Home, Falmouth.

Robert Thompson, 77, of Florence, died at 2:45 p.m. Monday at St. Luke Hospital West in Florence. He was a truck driver with Ace-Doran Trucking Co., Cincinnati. His wife, Mattie Thompson, died in 1993.

Survivors include sons, Tommy Thompson of Florence and Robert J. Thompson of Holdenville, Okla.; daughters, Bonnie Kay Curtis and Brenda Susan Wethington, both of Walton; a sister, Nellie Mae Miller of Union; and 12 grandchildren.

Private services will be at the convenience of the family. Hamitlon-Stanley Funeral Home, Verona, is handling arrangements.
