Joseph Weiper, aircraft mechanic

Joseph F. Weiper lived life to its fullest.

"He was the kind of guy who did everything in a hurry. He wore out but he didn't rust," Arnold Ingram said of his brother-in-law and business associate.

Mr. Weiper, 83, of Fort Wright, died Friday in St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood, after suffering a stroke the day before.

Only last Tuesday, Mr. Weiper had played a round of golf, Ingram said.

Mr. Weiper was a retired aircraft mechanic with General Electric in Cincinnati, and a co- owner with Ingram of the Briarcliff Development and Master Craft Metal companies in Northern Kentucky. The Master Craft Co. in Erlanger produced sheet metal for food operations, Ingram said.

Mr. Weiper was good with tools, as well as a hard worker, his brother-in-law said. As partners in Briarcliff Development, the two assembled the land for a venture which became Hathaway Apartments in West Covington, Ingram said. They also renovated the Burton Apartments in Covington, he said.

A native of Newport, Mr. Weiper was a Navy veteran of World War II, and once worked with Roy Rogers - who later became a cowboy singer/movie star - at a shoe plant in Cincinnati, Ingram said.

Mr. Weiper was an avid golfer, but was also involved in philanthropic ventures. He was a member of BeConcerned, a social agency, and was once named its Citizen of the Year, his brother-in-law said.
