Bertha Fritz, volunteered at Parish Kitchen

For as long as anyone could remember, there were two things that Bertha Fritz loved:

Volunteering her time to help others and cheering for the Cincinnati Reds.

And sometimes she even combined her favorite passions.

A nephew, Tim Lenihan of Villa Hills, said Miss Fritz once borrowed a baseball glove and took it to the Parish Kitchen in Covington while serving Thanksgiving lunch.

"She just wanted to show her support. She liked the Reds, and she was upset that she couldn't get them on the regular television this year," Mr. Lenihan said. "She was just a sweetheart."

Miss Fritz, 82, of Covington, died Monday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit in Covington.

Miss Fritz was a retired housekeeper with St. Charles Care Center in Fort Wright and a member of Mother of God Church in Covington.

She was a former housekeeper with the church, was active in Catholic Charities and the Parish Kitchen and was a member of the church Altar Society and Daughters of Isabella. She was a member of West Covington Senior Citizens and the Birthday Club at Hathaway Court, Covington. She was also a Kentucky Colonel.

Miss Fritz was born in West Covington. She was a soft-spoken woman who made a point of learning the names of those she helped, Mr. Lenihan said. "She would never say a bad word about anybody. She was just a neat lady," Mr. Lenihan said.
