Juanita Lunsford, DAV volunteer

Juanita Margaret Lunsford of Newport loved people.

After her children were grown, she made a new set of friends volunteering at the Disabled American Veterans in Fort Thomas.

"She served coffee to the veterans out there," said one of Mrs. Lunsford's sisters, Gertrude Lemmons of Bellevue.

Mrs. Lunsford died Wednesday at her home. She was 60 years old.

"She was a nice person. She and I got along great," Ms. Lemmons said.

Mrs. Lunsford was a native of rural Kenton County, just outside Covington. She was a homemaker and reared nine children. A son, Clarence William "Billy" Lunsford, died in 1978.

Mrs. Lunsford also was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of American Legion Post No. 11 in Newport.

Her husband, Charles Lunsford, died in 1988.

Other survivors include sons, Alan Lemmons and Randy Lemmons, both of Newport, Carl Smith and Paul Smith, both of Corbin, and Benji Lunsford of Latonia; daughters, Tina Ritchie of Newport, Pamela Mullins of Burlington and Janie Schloman of Lexington; and a sister, Geneva Burdette of Seminole, Fla.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Allison and Rose Funeral Home in Covington. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Bellfonte cemetery in Flatwood.

Clifford L. Beach, 74, of Jonesville, died today at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South in Edgewood.

Arrangements are pending at Eckler-Hudson Funeral Home, Dry Ridge.

August "Babe" Bihl, 86, of Alexandria, died at 8:15 a.m. Wednesday at River Valley Nursing Home, Butler. He was a retired custodian with Highlands High School in Fort Thomas, a former employee of American Tool Co. in Cincinnati and a member of St. John United Church of Christ, Newport.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret Elizabeth Bihl; a son, John Charles "J.C." Bihl of Hillsboro, Ohio; one granddaughter and one great-granddaughter.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Alexandria Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Alexandria Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to charity.

Joyce Ann Capell, 59, of Demossville, died at 8:20 p.m. Wednesday at her residence.

Arrangements are pending at Swindler and Currin Funeral Home, Independence.

Harold Creekmore, 65, of Cincinnati, formerly of Latonia, died at 11:53 a.m. Tuesday at Deaconess Hospital, Cincinnati. He was a retired maintenance worker with the Kroger Co. in Cincinnati and an Army Air Corps veteran of the Korean War. His wife, Vetus Jean Creekmore, died in 1997.

Survivors include a daughter, Cheryl Jean De Luca of Cincinnati; sons, David Creekmore, Sandy Creekmore and Stewart Creekmore Sr., all of Independence; a brother, Roy Creekmore of Florence; a sister, Ruby Donnley of Elsmere; and three grandchildren.

Services will be at noon Friday at Connley Bros. Funeral Home, Latonia. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Cincinnati. Memorials are suggested to American Lung Association, 11113 Kenwood Road, Cincinnati, Ohio 45242.

Virgil L. Daugherty, 66, of Latonia, died Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington.

Arrangements are pending at Connley Bros. Funeral Home, Latonia.

Athena "Pat" Gibbins Donovan, 48, of Verona, died Tuesday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. She was an employee of the Gap warehouse in Florence and a member of Good Guys Club, Walton.

Survivors include her hus band, Harold Donovan; daughters, Mary "Twiggy" Donovan of Elsmere and Marsha Donovan Davis of Verona; a brother, Jesse Gibbins of Dry Ridge; a sister, Linda Charlene Gobel of Loveland, Ohio; and two grandchildren.

Services will be at noon Fri day at Hamilton-Stanley Funeral Home, Verona. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in New Bethel Cemetery, Verona.

Ruby Elizabeth Dryden, 83, of Carrollton, died Tuesday at Carroll County Memorial Hospital in Carrollton. She was a homemaker and a member of Calvary Apostolic Church, Carrollton.

Survivors include her hus band, James W. Dryden Sr.; sons, William D. Dryden of Warsaw and James W. Dryden Jr. of Carrollton; daughters, Norma Jean Ballard of Ghent and Eva Mae Williamson of Warsaw; sisters, Alma Satchwell and Eva Lou Wilson, both of Warsaw; a brother, Charles "Pete" Miles of Warsaw; 21 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Calvary Apostolic Church. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 to night and at 10 a.m. Friday at the church. Burial will be in Ghent Masonic Cemetery. Graham- Dunn Funeral Home, Carrollton, is handling arrangements.

John R. Funke, 56, of Town and Country, Mo., formerly of Erlanger, died Dec. 2 in Town and Country after suffering an aneurysm at his home. He was a retired vice president and chief financial officer for Jefferson Smurfit Corp., St. Louis, and a former employee of Hoerner Waldorf Corp., Middletown, Ohio.

Survivors include his mother, Dorothy Funke of Erlanger; his wife, Mary Ellen Ryan Funke; sons, John R. Funke Jr. of Edwards, Colo., and Thomas Funke of Town and Country, Mo.; daughters, Nancy Funke Cassa day of St. Peters, Mo., and Katie Funke of Town and Country, Mo.; brothers, William Funke of Demossville, Paul Funke of Louisville and Lawrence Funke of Baltimore; and a sister, Dottie Funke Hayes of Erlanger.

Services were Sunday in Kirkwood, Mo. Burial was in Resurrection Cemetery, Afton, Mo. Memorials are suggested to John R. Funke Charitable Foundation, 1198 Clayton Place Drive, St. Louis, Mo. 63131. Bopp Chapel Funeral Home, Kirkwood, was in charge.

Orville Ray Gillespie, 62, of Augusta, died Tuesday at Meadowview Regional Medical Center, Maysville. He was a construction worker and a member of New Zion Baptist Church, Bracken County.

Survivors include his wife, Donna Higgins Gillespie; a daughter, Peggy Armor of Cincinnati; sons, Ronnie Dale Gillespie of Augusta and Calvin Ray Gillespie; a brother, Bob Gillespie of Butler; and sisters, Lola French, Sandra Adams and Rosie Gillespie, all of Falmouth; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Moore and Parker Funeral Home, Brooksville. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Downard Cemetery, Bracken County. Memorials are suggested to the cemetery.

June Carpenter Harsin, 67, of Bethany, La., died Monday at Willis Knighton Hospital in Shreveport, La. She was a retired teacher. Her husband, Gerald Harsin, preceded her in death.

Survivors include a daughter, Cindy Harsin of Bethany, La.; sons, Mike Harsin of Farmersville, Texas, and Tommy Harsin of Sugarland, Texas; a sister, Thelma Whitehead of Brooksville; a brother, Thomas Carpenter Jr. of Orlando, Fla.; and four grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Osborn Funeral Home, Shreveport, La. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Moore and Parker Funeral Home, Brooksville, is handling local arrangements.

Jackie Lynn Hughes, 42, of Carrollton, died Wednesday at Clifty Falls Convalescent Center, Madison, Ind. She was a chemical operator with M&T Chemicals and a member of Ghent Baptist Church.

Survivors include daughters, Jessica Clara Hughes of Carrollton, and Jennifer Lynn Hughes and Jacqulyn Annette Hughes, both of Madison, Ind.; her mother, Clara Bell Hughes of Carrollton; sisters, Linda Cole and Sandy Tomlinson, both of Carrollton; and a brother, Terry Hughes of Carrollton.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home, Carrollton. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Ghent Masonic Cemetery.

Roger Hurd, 59, of Falmouth, died Wednesday in Falmouth. He was a construction worker.

Survivors include daughters, Lisa Miller of Walton and Tracy Hurd of Crittenden; a son, Barry Hurd of Williamstown; brothers, Norman Wray and Ronnie Wray, both of Virginia; and one grandchild.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Crittenden. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Broadridge Cemetery, Dry Ridge.

James Alvie "Buster" Jackson, 63, of Williamstown, died at 3:54 a.m. Wednesday at Woodspoint Nursing Home, Florence, after an extended illness. He was a retired employee of Cincinnati Gilbert Machine Tool Co. and a member of Shiloh Baptist Church, Grant County.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Fields Jackson; sons, Cecil Ray Jackson of Dry Ridge, Terry Jackson of Corinth, James Jackson Jr. of Williamstown and Ronnie Jackson of Cynthiana; daughters, Alice Conner of Taylor Mill, and Elsie Cook and Vonda Cox, both of Corinth; a stepson, Jim Hornsby of Owen ton; stepdaughters, Carrie Lopez of Crittenden and Angela Daley of Williamstown; brothers, Burbert Jackson of Connersville, Ind., and Cecil Jackson of Dry Ridge; sisters, Louise Courtney of Williamstown, Lucy Souder and Rita Snow, both of Dry Ridge, Minnie Hewitt of Carroll ton, Betty Riley of Florence and Dollie Jean Jackson of Somerset; 21 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and three step-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Fri day at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Williamstown. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Hill Crest Cemetery, Dry Ridge. Memorials are suggested to Shiloh Baptist Church Building Fund, Shiloh Road, Corinth, Ky. 41010.

Margaret Clinkscales McCormick, 84, of Lexington, formerly of Williamstown, died at 5:10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Hospital East in Lexington. She was a homemaker and a former saleswoman with McAlpin's department stores and Wigginton & Rowland Department Store, Williamstown. She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church, Lexington and a former member of the church choir. She was a former member of Fayette County Homemakers and a former volunteer ombudsman with Rose Manor Nursing Home, Lexington. Her husband, Thomas N. P. McCormick, died in 1973.

Survivors include a son, Terry M. McCormick of Nicholasville; sisters, Rosemary C. Rouse of Burnside and Frances C. Stanley of Williamstown; and two grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Williamstown. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Fri day at the funeral home. Burial will be in Williamstown Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Immanuel Baptist Church Choir Fund, 3100 Tates Creek Road, Lexington, Ky. 40517.

Virgil Oliver Mullins, 77, of Glencoe, died Wednesday at Veteran Hospital, Louisville. He was a retired farmer and an Army veteran of World War II. A son, Gerald Mullins, died in 1996.

Survivors include his wife, Edna Mae Mullins; sons, Vernon Mullins of Dry Ridge, and Burrell Mullins and A. J. Mullins, both of Glencoe; daughters, Ver la Whitaker of Berry and Della Nolan of Madison, Ind.; 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Sat urday at Carlton-Lowder Funeral Home, Warsaw. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Glencoe Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Gallatin County Life Squad, 500 Main Cross, Warsaw, Ky. 41095.

Mary S. Neal, 92, of Crescent Springs, died Wednesday at her home. She was a clerk with the Kentucky Revenue Office. Her husband, Thomas A. Neal, and a daughter, Wanda Neal Parker, both preceded her in death.

Survivors include a son, Albert Neal of Crescent Springs; one grandchild and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Stith Funeral Home, Florence. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger. Memorials are suggested to Parkinson's Disease Support Network UCMC, Neurology, Mail Location 525, 231 Bethesda Ave., Cincinnati, Ohio 45267.

Katherine Meier Taylor, 101, of Orlando, Fla., formerly of Union, died Thursday at Commons at Orlando Lutheran Towers in Orlando. She was a home maker and a former school teacher. Her husband, G. K. Taylor, died in 1977.

Survivors include a son, John Meier Taylor of Walton; a sister, Ethel Tanner of Florence; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Hopeful Lutheran Church, Union. Visitation will begin there at 1 p.m. Saturday. Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Walton, is handling arrangements.

Richard Darryl "Cutt" Teegarden, 52, of Mount Olivet, died Tuesday at Fleming County Hospital, Flemingsburg. He was a construction worker.

Survivors include his wife, Wanda Stoker Teegarden; daughters, Shandra Teegarden and Tracy Teegarden, both at home, and Sherry Carpenter of Mason County; a stepdaughter, Tammi Perkins of Bracken County; a stepson, Timmy Blair of Washington; his mother, Velma Lucas Teegarden of Bracken County; brothers, Billy Teegarden of Fleming County, and Hank Teegarden and Jim "Bus" Teegarden, both of Bracken County; sisters, Christine Biddle of Pendleton County, Joyce Murray and Lou McElfresh, both of Bracken County; and four grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Robertson County Funeral Home, Mount Olivet. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery.

Samuel F. Thompson, 90, of Covington, died Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was a founder of Thompson-Boerger Insurance Inc. in Park Hills and was a member of Covington Lions Club and the Fort Mitchell and Blessed Sacrament Church senior groups.

Survivors include his wife, Dolores "Lolly" Thompson of Covington; a daughter, Mary Lou Boerger of Fort Mitchell; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at noon Friday at Blessed Sacrament Church, Fort Mitchell. Visitation will be from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Friday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger. Burial will be in Mother of God Cemetery, Fort Wright. Memorials are suggested in the form of Masses or to charity.
