Karen Jones, traveled country on motorcycle

Fitness and the human body interested Karen Judith McHugh Jones.

The Dry Ridge woman loved the outdoors and loved to hike and ride bicycles, said her husband, Donald A. Jones. Together on their Harley Davison motorcycles, they saw much of the country.

Mrs. Jones was an aerobics instructor in the Bridgeport, Conn., area, and also had a short stint as a professional bodybuilder.

Mrs. Jones, who died March 23 of cancer at age 48, was a licensed massage therapist. She worked part-time with the Family Massage Center in Madeira, Ohio, as well as with some clients in her home.

Her full-time job was health unit coordinator at the Shriners Burn Institute in Cincinnati, where she had worked for about five years. She was a licensed practical nurse.

Mrs. Jones grew up in Bridgeport, and attended a business school in that area after she graduated from high school.

She joined the Navy and was stationed in San Diego, where she went AWOL after two years and joined an ashram, where she received a new name -- Siriatmakar.

While in San Diego, Mrs. Jones ran a skate shop, and became a pretty good roller skater herself, her husband said. She also became accomplished at Tai Chi.

After two years, the Navy found her and threw her in the brig. But she did eventually receive an honorable discharge, her husband said.

She returned to Connecticut and worked for the Sprague Meter Co. making natural gas meters, where her future husband also worked.

When the company announced a move to Owenton in 1989, they married and moved to Northern Kentucky.

Mrs. Jones joined the First Christian Church of Owenton, and became active in Big Brothers/Big Sisters.
