Mary Hanneken, liked travel in Ireland, Spain

Mary Barbara Burroughs Hanneken was an adventurous world traveler who never forgot her Irish roots.

"She traveled with a group of people a couple of times a year. She made friends all over and kept in contact with them, " said her daughter, Barbara Lehman, of Independence.

Mrs. Hanneken, 77, of Villa Hills died Friday at St. Elizabeth North Hospice.

Sometimes she took off abroad on her own, her daughter said.

"She was comfortable enough and secure enough to go by herself. She didn't always travel with friends that she knew, she would just go away and meet people, " she said. "She was a pretty cool, pretty fun."

Lehman said her mother visited Paris, Spain and Ireland, during her trips.

"She loved to travel to Ireland, her mother was born there, so she traveled back and forth to visit cousins. She liked Spain a lot, " she said.

Family was also a priority for Mrs. Hanneken.

"She was very good to her grandchildren. She loved them and worried about them, and wanted to make sure that they all did well, " Lehman said.

Mrs. Hanneken was a retired teacher and a registered nurse. She worked at Jewish Hospital and St. Elizabeth South. She was a member of Mother of God Church in Covington and of the Ancient Order of Hibernians.

A son, Michael Hanneken, died in 1984.

Surviving, in addition to Lehman, are two other daughters, Maureen Lusby of Taylor Mill and Karen Thoss of Walton; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at noon Saturday at Mother of God Church, Covington. She will be cremated.

Memorials are suggested to Notre Dame Academy, 1699 Hilton Drive, Park Hills, Ky. 41011 or to the Northern Kentucky University School of Nursing and Health Professions, Nunn Drive, AHC 303, Highland Heights, Ky. 41099.

Tom Campbell, 43, of Mays Lick, died Saturday in an automobile accident on U.S. 68 in Maysville.

He was a driver for Kerns Food Distribution.

His father, Lawrence Campbell, preceded him in death.

Survivors include a son, Tommy Campbell Jr.; daughters, Terra Carey and Leray Pyles, all of Columbus, Ohio; his mother, Lula Phillips Campbell of Mays Lick; brothers, Eddie Campbell and Jeffrey Campbell, both of Maysville, John Campbell and Larry Campbell, both of Circleville, Ohio; sisters, Laura Booker of Manchester, Ohio, Lou Ann Ramey of Chillicothe, Ohio, and Judy Yedell of Dallas, Texas; and seven grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Brell and Son Funeral Home, Maysville.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.

Burial will be in Shannon Cemetery, Shannon.

Joyce Jean Cernut, 68, of Latonia, died Sunday at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Covington.

Survivors include sons Paul Cernut of Latonia and Ronald Cernut of Atlanta; a brother, Ralph Staggs of West Portsmouth, Ohio; a sister, Joanne Browning of Portsmouth; and two grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Roger W. Davis Funeral Home, West Portsmouth.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today and one hour prior to the funeral Wednesday.

Donna Sue Yelton Deaton, 63, of Butler, died Saturday at her residence.

She was a retired employee for Sam's Club, Florence, a member of Butler Baptist Church, the Pendelton County Historical and Genealogical Society, the Breathitt County Historical and Genealogical Society and the Newport High School Alumni Association.

Survivors include her husband, Johnny Deaton of Butler; daughters Nancy Deaton Mullins of Ludlow and Karen Deaton Shoemaker of Butler; a brother, James Yelton of Butler; and two granddaughters.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Peoples Funeral Home, Falmouth. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Falmouth.

Memorials are suggested to Butler Baptist Church, 107 Peoples St., Butler, Ky. 41006 or Hospice of Hope, 909 Kenton Station Drive, Maysville, Ky. 41056.

Mary Frances Estes, 91, of Orlando, Fla., died Thursday at Palm Garden of Orlando, Orlando, Fla.

She was retired from Winter Park Memorial Hospital, Altamonte Springs, Fla. She was a member of the Southland Christian Church, a 1931 graduate of Ruddles Mills High School and a 1937 graduate of the Samaritan Hospital School of Nursing in Lexington.

Her husband, Duard M. Estes, preceded her in death.

Suvivors include a daughter, Judy S. Lawrence of Sorrento, Fla., two grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Battle Grove Cemetery, Cynthiana.

James Evans, 66, of Independence, died Monday at his residence. He was a retired truck driver for Dealers Supply, Erlanger and a part time guard at Duro Paper Bag Company, Covington.

He was a member of Apostolic Church of God in Alexandria.

Survivors include his wife, Gladys Dixon Evans of Independence; sons, Jim Evans of Independence and Don Evans of Tampa, Fla.; brothers, Bob Evans of Mount Healthy, Ohio, Tom Evans and Bill Evans, both of Tampa, Fla.; a sister, Wanda Ross of Heidelberg; and four grandchildren.

Services will be at noon Thursday at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Taylor Mill. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.

Mildred Louise West Gaylor, 69, of Morning View, died Sunday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.

She was a homemaker and a member of Berean Baptist Church, Independence. Her husband, Howard Gaylor, preceded her in death.

Survivors include sons, Jerry Gaylor and Howard Gaylor, both of Independence; daughters, Pamela Voland of Glencoe, Melissa Gaylor of Newport, and Melinda McDonald of Morning View; a brother, Harlan West of Walton; sisters, Sandra Varney of Erlanger and Kimberly Laycock of Newport; 23 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Berean Baptist Church, Independence. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Independence. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Memorials are suggested to Berean Baptist Church, 5828 Wilson Road, Independence, Ky. 41051.

Paul Joseph Hilgeford, 87, of Covington, died Saturday at St. Charles Care Center, Covington.

He was a retired printer.

Survivors include sons, David Hilgeford of Villa Hills, Mark Hilgeford of Edgewood, and Dr. Eric Hilgeford of Louisville; daughters, Lois Angelucci of Lexington, Dorothy Malinowski and Helen Virmond, both of Chicago; and 10 grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday at St. Charles Care Center, Covington. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Monday. Burial will be in Calvary, Walnut Hills. Memorials are suggested to St. Charles Care Center, 500 Farrell Drive, Covington, Ky. 41011.

Raymond E. McConnell, 84, of Cynthiana, died Sunday at the Veterans Administration Medical Center, Lexington.

He was an Army veteran of World War II.

He was also a member of the Fosters Chapel United Methodist Church and Cynthiana Elks Lodge 438.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Ware Funeral Home, Cynthiana. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with an Elks memorial service at 7:30 p.m. Burial will be in Piqua Cemetery, Robertson County.

Lawrence E. McDermott, 56, of Newport, died Sunday at his residence.

He was the former owner of a barbershop in Newport, an Army veteran of the Vietnam War and also a National Guard veteran.

Survivors include his mother, Francis McDermott of Fort Thomas; a daughter, Melissa McDermott of Cincinnati; a brother, Frank McDermott of Villa Hills; and three grandchildren.

Services will be at noon Thursday at Fares J. Radel Funeral Home, Newport. Visitation will begin there at 10:30 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate. Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.

Susan E. Schwartz, 59, of Jacksonville, Fla., died April 6 at her residence.

She served in the Army and National Guard, and was a member of American Legion Post 137.

Survivors include her mother, Lee Schwartz; brothers Thomas Schwartz of Covington and Richard Schwartz of San Francisco, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services were held on April 10 in Jacksonville, Fla.

Keith Scott, 32, of Cynthiana, died Sunday at his residence.

He was a farmer.

Survivors include his wife, Mischell Heisel Scott; and a son, Nathaniel Scott, both of Cynthiana.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Ware Funeral Home, Cynthiana. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Battle Grove Cemetery, Cynthiana.

Ussery B. Shearer, 84, of Taylor Mill, died Sunday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas.

He was a clerk retired from the L&N; Railroad and a World War II veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia Shearer of Taylor Mill; a son, Robert Shearer of Independence; daughters Janet Sue Rich of Morrow, Ohio, and Sharon Baldwin of Hamilton, Ohio; six grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Services will be at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at Don Catchen and Son Funeral Homes, Elsmere. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetary, Taylor Mill.

Bonita Ella Smith, 59, of Selbyville, Del., formerly of Fort Thomas, died March 31 in Selbyville.

She was a registered nurse.

Survivors include a son, Richard K. Smith of Shelbyville; a daughter, Browne L. Smith of New York City; three brothers, John R. Smith of Cape Coral, Fla., Shelby Smith of Alexandria, and Timothy Smith of Independence; a sister, Ellen Smith of Cincinnati; and four grandchildren.

No services are planned. Memorials are suggested to Delaware Hospice, 600 N. Dupont Highway, Suite 107, Georgetown, Del. 19947; or Wellness Community Center Delmarva, 1201 Pemberton Drive, Suite 1A, Salisbury, Md. 21801. Hastings Funeral Home, Selbyville, Del., is handling arrangements.

Gary Wayne Tomlin, 29, of Elsmere, died Saturday at his residence.

He was a machine operator for Ampac Plastics, Inc.

Survivors include his wife, Amy McGuffey Tomlin; a daughter, Makayla Tomlin of Elsmere; a son, Lucas Tomlin, of Elsmere; his biological mother, Rosa Mae Iorfida of Madison, Tenn.; his parents, Gerry and Lisa Tomlin of Cincinnati; brothers, Vincent Tillery and Jerry Tillery, both of Hamilton, Ohio; sisters, Charlene Tomlin and Jerry Tillery, both of Madison, Tenn.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Linnemann Funeral Homes, Erlanger. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort. Mitchell. Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.

Barbara Ann Brock Warner, 47, of Southgate, died April 8 at St. Luke Hospital East, Ft. Thomas.

She was a member of the Butler Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Robert Warner; a stepson, Rob Warner, both of Southgate; her mother, Reba Brock of Butler; a brother, Kenneth E. Brock of Worthville; and two step-grandsons.

Graveside services and burial were April 9 at Worthville Cemetery, Worthville.

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society, 6672 Dixie Highway, Suite 2A, Florence, Ky, 41042.

Mary Dorothy Winston, 79, of Hebron, died Sunday at the Florence Park Care Center in Florence.

She was a housekeeper.

Survivors include two sons, Charles C. Winston of Burlington, Robert C. Winston, of Walton; four daughters, Sylvia Begley of Union, Denise Hornbeck of Erlanger, Mary Huser of Erlanger, and Darlene Inabnit of Florence; two brothers, Leo Rump of Covington, and Leonard Rump of Ryland Heights, Ky.; two sisters, Alma Deatherage of Independence, and Frances Foltz of Clearwater, Fla.; 18 grandchildren, and 17 great-granchildren.

Services will be held at Stith Funeral Home in Florence Wednesday at 1 p.m., with visitation prior to the funeral from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Roberta Wolking, 93, of Fort Mitchell, died at 10 p.m. Friday at St. John Hospital in Detroit.

Services are pending at Connley Brothers Funeral Home in Latonia.
