Ronnie Burden Sr., 'saved a lot of people'

Ronnie Dean Burden Sr. spent much of his life working for both the Cynthiana Fire Department and Brown Ambulance Service.

"He put in a lot of hours every week for the fire department and ambulance service, " said his son, Mark Burden, of Paris, Ky.

"He did it because he loved it. He liked to help people. He sacrificed a lot for the community. He saved a lot of people."

Mr. Burden, 58, of Cynthiana and formerly of Robertson County, died Friday at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington.

He was a 32-year veteran of the Cynthiana Fire Department and retired as assistant chief. He worked 27 years for Brown Ambulance Service, the last 24 years as administrator.

Mr. Burden was a member of the Mt. Olivet Christian Church and Cynthiana Elks Lodge No. 438.

He also was a Kentucky Colonel.

"He was everybody's friend, " said Mark Burden. "He would give you the shirt off his back if he had to.

"He was outgoing and easy to get along with. I don't know of anybody who didn't like him."

Mr. Burden enjoyed fishing and horse racing.

Other survivors include sons, Ronnie Burden Jr. of Cynthiana and Danny Ray Burden of Harrison County; a daughter, Melissa Hamilton of Cynthiana; brothers, James Burden, Robert Burden and Donald Burden, all of Robertson County; sisters, Bonnie Thielfoldt of Cucamonga, Calif., and Barbara Jefferson of Germantown; and four grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. today at Ware Funeral Home in Cynthiana. Burial will be in Piqua cemetery in Harrison County.

Memorials are suggested to Cynthiana Fire Department, 104 E. Pleasant St., Cynthiana, Ky. 41031.

Kathy Louise Gullion Bowman, 50, of Independence, died Friday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was a server with Red Lobster and a member of Berean Baptist Church, Independence.

Survivors include a son, Shawn Wayne Lauderman of Crittenden; daughters, Amy Lynn Hemingway of Crittenden and Cara Ann Simpson of Erlanger; her mother, Marilyn Janet Gullion of Newport; brothers, Darrel "Riley" Gullion of Latonia, Barry Gullion of Versailles, John Richard Gullion Jr. of Warsaw, Gerald Gullion of Germany, Jody Gullion of Callahan, Fla., Joey Gullion of Greenville, Ind., and Joby Gullion of Independence; sisters, Karen Lauderman and Jeannie Lauderman, both of Independence, Kitty Gullion of Covington and Kelli Manning of Bellevue; and eight grandchildren.

Services were this morning at Hamilton-Stanley Funeral Home, Verona. Burial was in Warsaw Cemetery.

Rodney J. Coleman, 55, of Lebanon, Ohio, formerly of Latonia, died Sunday at his home.

Arrangements are pending at Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia.

Floyd Cooper, 69, of Latonia, died Sunday at his home.

Arrangements are pending at Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia.

Richard Eibeck, 45, of Bedford, formerly of Morning View, died Saturday at his home.

Arrangements are pending at Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia.

Christopher Robert Frakes, 11 days, of Florence, died Saturday at his home.

Arrangements are pending at Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia.

Velma Ora Martin Ligon, 95, of Florence, died Saturday at Woodspoint Nursing Home, Florence. She was a presser with Giddings-Jenny Clothiers. Survivors include nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Gumlick Cemetery, Williamstown. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Tuesday at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Williamstown.

E. Raymond Lunkenheimer, 79, of Lakeside Park, died Saturday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was a retired printer, and a member of Immanuel United Church of Christ in Bromley, United Printers Union and Unity Lodge No. 478 F&AM;, Ludlow.

Survivors include cousins.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home, Ludlow. Visitation will begin there at 9 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger. Memorials are suggested to Immanuel United Church of Christ, 110 Boone St., Bromley, Ky. 41016.

Steven McLafferty, 34, of Rising Sun, Ind., died Saturday in an auto accident on U.S. 50 in Greendale, Ind. He owned a carpet cleaning business.

Survivors include his wife, Tonya McLafferty; a son, Nicholas Wainscott of Silver Grove; daughters, Erin McLafferty, Abigail McLafferty and Dani Rucker, all of Rising Sun; his father, Patrick McLafferty of Honduras; his mother and stepfather, Rose and Paris Valentour of Florence; brothers, John McLafferty and Patrick McLafferty, both of Erlanger; a half-brother, Shawn Segar of Paris; stepbrothers, Paris Valentour Jr. of Dry Ridge, Kent Valentour of Falmouth and Ivan Valentour of Florence; a stepsister, Neva Trapp of Burlington; and grandmother, Elizabeth McLafferty of Rising Sun.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Peoples Funeral Home, Falmouth. Visitation will begin there at noon Tuesday. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Morning View.

Dwight Menefee, 31, of Edgewood, died Saturday at his home.

Arrangements are pending at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Independence.

Pauline Baxter Reeves, 94, of Covington, died at 6:50 a.m. Saturday at Villa Springs Care Center, Erlanger. She was a machine operator with Western Paper Co. Her husband, Earl Reeves, died in 1971.

Survivors include a son, Robert Reeves of Union; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Don Catchen and Son Funeral Home, Elsmere. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.

George H. Rettig Sr., 87, of Erlanger, died at 9:35 a.m. Saturday at his home. He was a retired employee of Ohio Knife Co., Cincinnati, and a member of St. Barbara Church in Erlanger. He was a volunteer with St. Charles Care Center, and was an Army veteran of World War II. His wife, Viola Schwartz Rettig, died in 1984.

Survivors include sons, George Rettig Jr. of Union, James Rettig and Robert Rettig, both of Independence, and Thomas Rettig of Erlanger; daughters, Mary Lehmkuhl of Erlanger and Martha Schenck of Fort Lewis, Wash.; a brother, Bill Rettig of Harrison, Ohio; and 21 grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Barbara Church. Visitation will begin there at 8 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Memorials are suggested to St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, 401 E. 20th St., Covington, Ky. 41014. Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger, is handling arrangements.

Donna Lee Sketch Richardson, 58, of Erlanger, died Friday at Florence Park Care Center, Florence. She was a homemaker and a volunteer with St. Augustine Church Cafeteria.

Survivors include her husband, Michael Richardson; a daughter, Amy Nerlinger of Elsmere; a son, Bill Richardson of Erlanger; sisters, Mary Ann Kallmeyer of Erlanger, Jane Menkhaus of Fort Wright, Sandy Sterling and Mickie Strong, both of Florence; and three grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Henry Church, Elsmere. Burial will be in Mother of God Cemetery, Fort Wright. Memorials are suggested to St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, 401 E. 20th St., Covington, Ky. 41014; or Redwood School and Rehabilitation Center, 71 Orphanage Road, Fort Mitchell, Ky. 41017. Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger, is handling arrangements.

Brenda C. Schornberg, 58, of Taylor Mill, died at 6:15 a.m. Friday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, Harry J. Schornberg Jr.; a daughter, Susan Schornberg of Jefferson City, Mo.; a son, John Schornberg of Taylor Mill; her mother, Kathryn Niehoff of Louisville; three brothers and four sisters.

Memorial services will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Fort Mitchell Baptist Church. Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Taylor Mill, is handling arrangements.

Noel "Bud" Trimble Jr., 76, of Falls of Rough, formerly of Ludlow, died Thursday at his home. He was a retired signal maintenance worker with the Southern Railroad, and was a member of Rough River Baptist Church. His wife, Mona Trimble, preceded him in death.

Survivors include a daughter, Sherry Harp of Falls of Rough; a son, Robert Trimble of Hebron; his mother, Lula Caffee of Burlington; sisters, Marjorie Smith of Burlington, Betty Keith and Martha Schaefer, both of Fort Meyers, Fla., Anna Welcher of Acton, Ind., Eva Angal of Phoenix and Charlotte Floyd of Elsmere; brothers, Arthur Trimble Myrtle Beach, S.C., Charles Trimble of Franklin, Ohio, and Harold Trimble of Burlington; three grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Williamstown. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Steger Cemetery, Corinth.

Allan O. Vice, 64, of Maysville, died Saturday at Central Baptist Hospital, Lexington. He was a retired employee of Emerson Power Transmission, a member of Mays Lick Christian Church and an Army veteran. A stepson, Roger Mason, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Helen Walker Vice; a daughter, Cindy Dickens of Rome, Ga.; a son, Jim Vice of Hendersonville, Tenn.; stepdaughters, Sherry Hornback of Tollesboro and Rhonda Sims of Maysville; his parents, Merrell and Lorene Watson Vice of Maysville; sisters, Betty Jane Orme, Patty DeVaughn and Paige Ross, all of Maysville; and four grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Palmer Funeral Home, Mays Lick. Visitation will begin there at 1 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Mays Lick Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Women's Crises Center, 111 E. Third St., Maysville, Ky. 41056.

Charles B. Wainscott, 73, of Carrollton, died at 7:30 a.m. Saturday at his home. He was an employee of Brock & Reynolds Shell in Carrollton, a member of the Carrollton Fire Department and co-founder of the Carroll County Rescue Squad.

Survivors include his wife, Naomi Courtney Wainscott; a daughter, Charlene Terrell of Carrollton; a son, Duane Wainscott of Carrollton; a sister, Evaline York of Sanders; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. today at Graham-Dunn Funeral Home, Carrollton. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery, Carrollton.

Tola Williams, 76, of Cynthiana, died Saturday at Edgemont Manor Nursing Home, Cynthiana. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Ernest Williams, and a son, Melvin Daniel Dowd, both preceded her in death.

Survivors include a son, Roger Allen Dowd of Lebanon, Ohio; a daughter, Ernestine Williams; and two grandchildren.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Ware Funeral Home, Cynthiana. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Pythian Grove Cemetery, Berry. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of the Bluegrass, 508 E. Pike St., Cynthiana, Ky. 41031.

Dicy M. Wood, 69, of Independence, died Saturday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was a homemaker and a member of Hilltop Church of Christ, Taylor Mill. She was a former Cub Scout den mother. A daughter, Tammy Wood, died in 1975.

Survivors include her husband, John C. Wood; sons, Gary Wood of Walton and John Wood of Independence; a sister, Goldie Parnell of Monticello; a brother, Jess Holder of DuPont, Ind.; seven grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Independence. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Independence Cemetery.
