Aldine White, a homemaker, died Wednesday. She was 77. White was a native of Wilcox County, a resident of Mobile and a member of Nazaree Baptist Church No. 1. Survivors include eight children, Hubert White Jr., Stella Shamburger, Emma White and Diane Lambert, all of Mobile, Gloria Franklin and Delores Ward, both of Detroit, and Annice Legons and Bernice Abney, both of Jacksonville, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and three great-stepgrandchildren. Viewing is set for Monday from 1 to 8 p.m. at Small's Mortuary. A second viewing will take place Tuesday from 9 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral at Nazaree Baptist Church No. 1. Burial will be in Gethsemane Cemetery.

Albert Franklin Abney

From The Birmingham News, January 3, 1953: Mr. Albert Franklin Abney, age 47, of 3400 N 24th St, passed away Wednesday, p.m. Survived by the widow, Mrs. Clara Abney; one son, Albert L. Abney of U.S.A. Korea; two daughters, Mrs. James M. Anderton and Miss Martha Anne Abney, both of Birmingham; five brothers, Gordon, James W., J. C., John, and Horace J. Abney, all of Birmingham; two sisters, Mrs. Ludie Mae Clowdus and Mrs. Edith Giamportone, both of Birmingham; and one grandchild, Carolyn Jean Anderton.

Lela Carr

GRAND CHAIN, Ill. -- Lela Faye Carr, 76, of Grand Chain died Thursday, May 22, 2003, at her home. She was born July 16, 1927, in Cairo, daughter of Ernest and Elsie Abney. She married James Carr, who preceded her in death in 1987.

Carr was a member of United Pentecostal Church in Dongola, Ill.

Survivors include a daughter, Susan Nottage of Anna, Ill.; five sons, Carl Carr of Grand Chain, Willie Carr of Belknap, Ill., Paul Carr of Paducah, Ky., Jessie Carr of Anna, Stanley Carr of Cairo; two sisters, Pat Casper of Mounds, Ill., Bertie Curneil of Missouri; 16 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a daughter.

Friends may call at Crain Funeral Home in Ullin, Ill., after 11 a.m. Tuesday.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Tex Perry officiating. Burial will be in Ullin Cemetery.

Lewis Abner, 78, of 107 Holly Ave., husband of Katherine Maines Abner for 58 years, died at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at his home. A native of Clark County, he was the son of the late Jasper and Linnie Willoughby Abner. He was former owner/operator of Abner Wholesale and a member and deacon of New Hope Baptist Church. Additional survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Wanda Lucille and Cecil Brandenburg, Winchester; three sons and two daughters-in-law, John Lewis Abner, Winchester; Randall J. and Patricia Abner and Mike and Gayle Varner, Winchester; 14 grandchildren, Shannon Johnson, Michael K. Johnson, Stephen Dale Birch, Charles Lewis Birch, Timothy Wayne Johnson, Christopher B. Johnson, Stephanie J. Edwards, Melissa Varner, Lisa Varner, William Varner, John Farris, Annie Farris, Julia Farris and Brenda Wright, numerous great-grandchildren, three sisters, Gladys Griffith, Juanita Adams and Lorine Rader and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at New Hope Baptist Church, 5835 Lexington Road, by Rev. Otis Leon Greer. Burial will be in Winchester Cemetery. Pallbearers will be James Maines Jr., George S. Maines, Joseph M. Maines, Earl Maines, John E. Maines and Ray Adams. Friends may call 6-9 p.m. Tuesday at Scobee Funeral Home.

Lillie B. Lake Abney

Lillie B. Lake Abney, 68, of N. 29th Street, passed away Wednesday, October 29, 2003 in SCCI. Mrs. Abney, daughter of the late George and Rosa Bell Lake, was born August 27, 1935 in Saluda, South Carolina. She retired from IBM Corp., Mechanics-burg, and was a member of Trinity Church of God, where she served with the Flower Guild, former Choir Member and Chairperson of the Kitchen Committee. Mrs. Abney was predeceased by a sister, Mamie Lake. She leaves to remember her life, husband, Wilbert Abney; one son, James R. Lake, Sr. and daughter-in-law, Joyce A. Lake of Aston; one sister, Mae B. Burno of Harrisburg; an aunt, Pauline Williams of Philadelphia; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Services will be held at noon, Monday, November 3, 2003 in her church, 2049 N. 4th Street, where she will be eulogized by Rev. Dr. Peter S. Edwards. Her nieces and nephews are Ashley Sharp, Daniel Lyons, Michael Lyons, Elizabeth Hughes, and her daughter, Desiree, Charles Hughes, and Samuel Parks. Lucy Abney Mosley Simpson, 77, of 318 Wilson St., widow of Sammie Simpson, died Nov. 14, 1999, at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Survivors: sons, David Mosley, Alfred Mosley, Sammie Lee Simpson, all of Laurens, Allen Mosley of Gray Court, J.C. Mosely of Philadelphia, and Willie Abney of Cincinnati; daughters, Audrey Copeland, Lucy Allen, and Lillie Neely, all of Laurens, Dorothy Brown of Gray Court, Daisy Jenkins of Philadelphia; five brothers; one sister; 41 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. Predeceased: four sons; and one daughter.

Luther Dale Abney, Sr.

JULIETTE - Luther Abney, 48, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday June 5th. -A Celebration of Luther's life will be held Saturday June 10th at Vineville Baptist Church. Visitation will be at 2:00PM followed by the Service at 3 PM. Dr. Bill Hardee and Pastor Eddie Smith will Officiate. Rev. Billy John Anbeny, Luther's Father who is a retired minister, will deliver the message. -Luther was born in Macon, Georgia on February 16, 1958. He lived in Louisville, Kentucky and Bloomington, Indiana as a child but lived most of his life in Georgia. He attended MD Collins High School in College Park, GA and Northeast High School in Macon. He was employed by Brown & Williamson in 1977, was involved in the United Way Campaign in 2002 and retired in 2003. In 1997 he was married to Penny Thistlewood. Luther was diagnosed with ALS, Lou Gehrig's Disease, in 2005. Hie wife Penny has been his primary caregiver which allowed him to remain at home throughout his courageous battle with this illness. Luther was a blessing to many in life and will continue to be in death. He is donating his organs to the ALS Association for research in hopes that a cure might be found. Team Abney raised over $1200.00 in September 2005 at the Walk to D'Feet ALS sponsored by the ALS Association of Georgia and we would like to send a special thanks to all who contributed to our efforts. Team Abney will be participating in the 2006 Walk to D'Feet ALS which will be in November. -In Lieu of flowers please make donations to the ALS Association of Georgia, Team Abney. (http://www.alsa.org)/ -We would also like to express appreciation to all the family, friends, and co-workers who have been such a blessing during the last year.
