Mary Ann Butts, her spirit was 'a blessing'

Mary Ann Butts was born with Down syndrome but made the most of her life with a friendly attitude and an independent spirit.

"It was a blessing to keep her for 34 years, " said Ms. Butts' brother, Robert Butts Jr. of Erlanger.

Ms. Butts, 34, of Latonia, died Friday at St. Elizabeth North Hospital in Covington.

She graduated from Newport High School in 1991 and participated in high school sports and Special Olympics, including basketball, track and the softball and baseball throw.

Ms. Butts worked at New Perceptions in Edgewood.

"She loved the people at New Perceptions and loved her job there, " said her brother. "She was especially proud when she was told she had done a 'cool job' at work."

Ms. Butts had artistic talent and liked to draw. She also made scrapbooks and gave them to friends.

"She was a person who gave everything she had, " said her brother. "She gave all her love.

"Mary Ann loved her family and had her own little nickname for each member of the family. She was extremely friendly and very outgoing.

"She strove to be independent. She wanted to do it on her own."

Other survivors include her father, Robert P. Butts Sr. of Covington; sisters, Pam Tullis of Fort Thomas and Phyllis Nelson of Mason, Ohio; and brothers, Joseph Butts of Cold Spring, William Butts of Covington and Raymond Butts of Newport.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at St. Therese Church in Southgate. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Fort Thomas.

Memorials may be made to the Mary Ann Butts Memorial Fund, Guardian Savings Bank, 14 S. Fort Thomas Ave., Fort Thomas, Ky. 41075.

Mable Marie Breeden Bond, 85, of Warsaw, died Saturday at Gallatin Health Care Center, Warsaw. Her husband, William Bond, died in 1980.

Survivors include sons, Larry Bond and Jerry Bond, both of Warsaw; daughters, Annie Baum and Angie Mercer, both of Warsaw, Frances Baum of Union and Gracie Scarlott of Louisville; sisters, Jenny Riley, Louise Sullivan and Mildred Butler, all of Warsaw, Eva Jo Criss of Union and Catherine Roberts of Florence; nine grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Carlton-Lowder Funeral Home, Warsaw. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Truth Apostolic Church, 696 Highway 56, Vevay, Ind. 47043.

Richard Joseph Brandenburger, 67, of Ludlow, died at 5:05 a.m. Saturday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington. He was a counter parts salesman with Kentucky Motors, and a member of St. Ann Church in Covington, the Confederates Hot Rod Club of Ludlow and the Hobo Club, Ludlow.

Survivors include his wife, Mary M. Laws Brandenburger; a son, Michael C. Brandenburger of Ludlow; brothers, Robert Brandenburger of Covington and Jim Brandenburger of Dayton; and a sister, Theresa Brandenburger of West Covington.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Covington. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mother of God Cemetery, Fort Wright.

Robert Edward "Hot Dog" Brown, 63, of Covington, died Nov. 29 at Gerrard Convalescent Center, Covington. He was the retired owner of Brown's Bar in Brooklyn, N.Y. A son, Shawn Brown, preceded him in death.

Survivors include sons, Stacey Walton and Kelley Brown, both of Brooklyn; brothers, John Jennings, David Jennings and Luther Scruggs, all of Covington; and sisters, Mamie Brown, Mildred Brown, Cheryle Walton and Jo Ann Jennings, all of Cincinnati, Georgetta Brown of Atlanta, and Mary Jennings and Julia Scruggs, both of Covington.

Services will be at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church, Covington. Visitation will begin there at 4 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Mary Smith Cemetery, Elsmere. Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Covington, is handling arrangements.

Anna K. Colley, 96, of Cincinnati, died Saturday at Arden Courts, Cincinnati. She was a secretary with Heekin Can Co. Her husband, Joseph Colley, preceded her in death.

Survivors include sons, Terrence Colley of Batavia, Ohio, Jerome Colley of Cincinnati and Joseph "Jay" Collen of Independence; 12 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Cincinnati. Visitation will begin there at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Cincinnati. Memorials are suggested to Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 7820 Beechmont Ave., Cincinnati, Ohio 45255; or Alzheimer's Disease Association, 644 Linn St., Suite 1026, Cincinnati, Ohio 45203. T.P. White and Sons Funeral Home, Cincinnati, is handling arrangements.

Hobart Collins Jr., 80, of Cynthiana, died Saturday at Hospice Care Center, Lexington. He was a retired farmer, a member of Pleasant Green Baptist Church and the Kentucky Draft Horse Association and an Army veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Isabel Eades Collins; a son, Mark A. Johnston of Nashville, Tenn.; a daughter, Leigh Ann Schreiber of Harrison County; a brother, Paul Collins of Covington; a sister, Virginia Brown of Florence; and three grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Ware Funeral Home, Cynthiana. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Battle Grove Cemetery, Cynthiana. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of the Bluegrass, 508 E. Pike St., Cynthiana, Ky. 41031.

Jacqui Marie Fausz, 24, of Mount Vernon, died Friday at University Medical Center, Lexington.

Survivors include her mother, Joan Fausz of Alexandria; a brother, Sean Fausz of Alexandria; and grandmother, Elizabeth Ann Wholley of Hull, Mass.

Services will be at noon Tuesday at Dowell and Martin Funeral Home, Mount Vernon. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Tuesday.

Mildred Marie Landell, 72, of Erlanger, died at 9:25 p.m. Friday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include a son, Mark Steven Polston of Covington; a daughter, Gloria Marie Hill of Florence; a sister, Della M. Jackson of Latonia Lakes; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia. Memorials are suggested to Fairhaven Rescue Mission, 260 W. Pike St., Covington, Ky. 41011; or Immanuel Baptist Church, 7183 Pleasant Valley Road, Florence, Ky. 41042.

Edward B. Marsh, 73, of Carrollton, died Friday at Hospice and Palliative Care of Louisville. He was a retired riverboat captain, a member of Family Worship Center in Carrollton and an Navy veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Rhonda Bond Marsh; sons, Edward Carroll Marsh and Gary Lyne Marsh, both of Carrollton; a daughter, Rehetta Marie Hulley of Carrollton; brothers, James L. Marsh of Carrollton and George H. Marsh of Prestonsville; a sister, Flora Belle Breeck of Carrollton; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Graham-Dunn Funeral Home, Carrollton. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight, and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Ardelle E. Massman, 79, of Highland Heights, died Saturday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was a homemaker and a volunteer with Hospice of Northern Kentucky.

Survivors include her husband, Theadore Massman; a daughter, Jean Willis of Cincinnati; sons, Thomas Massman of Columbus, Ohio, and John Massman of Antioch, Ill.; a brother, John Dalin of Geneseo, Ill.; and four grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at A.C. Dobbling and Son Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Tuesday. Memorials are suggested to St. Paul's United Church of Christ, 1 N. Jefferson St., Alexandria, Ky. 41001.

Florene Lee Wade McNees, 93, of Cynthiana, died Sunday at Edgemont Manor Nursing Home, Cynthiana. She was a homemaker and a member of Pleasant Green Baptist Church. Her husband, Wood McNees, preceded her in death.

Survivors include sons, Roy Jennings McNees and Larry Joe McNees, both of Harrison County; a daughter, Anna Louise Forsythe of Harrison County; brothers, William Wade and Dillard Wade, both of Harrison County; sisters, Lillian Livingood and Frances Denniston, both of Harrison County; eight grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Ware Funeral Home, Cynthiana. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Battle Grove Cemetery, Cynthiana. Memorials are suggested to Pleasant Green Baptist Church, 387 Pleasant Green Road, Cynthiana, Ky. 41031.

Ronald Lee Pressler, 50, of Newport, died Saturday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. He was a restaurant worker.

Survivors include sons, Ronald Pressler Jr. of Kentucky, William Pressler and Bobby Pressler, both of Covington, and Brian Nickerson of Newport; a daughter, Erica Pressler of Covington; sisters, Carol Casebolt of Southgate, Virginia Tipton of Alexandria, Margie Sharp and May Lou Cook, both of Newport; brothers, Robert Pressler and Roy Pressler, both of Newport; and two grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Oakland Cemetery, Grants Lick. Cooper Funeral Home, Grants Lick, is handling arrangements.

Gary Alan Reinert, 60, of Ludlow, died Friday at his home.

Arrangements are pending at Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home, Ludlow.

Matthew Gerald Stahl, 19, of Maysville, died Saturday at Meadowview Regional Medical Center, Maysville. After playing for the Thomas More College basketball team last season as a freshman, he was redshirting this season. He was an employee of the college and a member of St. Patrick Church in Maysville.

Survivors include his parents, Marc and Margie Purdy Stahl of Maysville; a sister, Kaitlyn Stahl of Maysville; a brother, Ryan Stahl of Maysville; and grandparents, Fanny and Frances Stahl of Marco Island, Fla., and Margaret Helen Purdy of Cincinnati.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Patrick Church. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at the church. Burial will be in St. Patrick Cemetery, Maysville.

Memorials are suggested to St. Patrick School, 318 Limestone, Maysville, Ky. 41056.

Wilma Louise Schweickart Tabb, 89, of Augusta, died Saturday at her home. She was a homemaker, a farmer and a member of Dover Christian Church. Her husband, Clemo Tabb, died in 1977.

Survivors include a daughter, Betty Lou Steele of Dover; a granddaughter and two great-grandsons.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Dover Christian Church. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at Metcalfe-Hennessey Funeral Home, Augusta. Burial will be in Rosemont Cemetery, Dover. Memorials are suggested to Dover Christian Church, P.O. Box 126, Dover, Ky. 41034.

Florence Stuntebeck Tatman, 100, of Fort Thomas, died Thursday at Carmel Manor Nursing Home, Fort Thomas. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Thomas Church in Fort Thomas, the church 55 Club, Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary and the Fort Thomas Women's Club. She was a past president of the St. Thomas Church Rosary Society. Husbands, Daniel Stuntebeck and Ray Tatman, and a son, Daniel Stuntebeck, all preceded her in death.

Survivors include sons, Mark Stuntebeck of Las Vegas and Paul Stuntebeck of Independence; daughters, Mercedes Leopold of Fort Thomas, Heloise Pelgen of Homosassa, Fla., and Betty Ramler of Scottsdale, Ariz.; 17 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Thomas Church, Fort Thomas. Visitation will be from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas.

Edna Marie Wiefering Walters, 59, of Bellevue, died Thursday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. She was a teller with the Cinfed Credit Union, Covington, and a member of St. Therese Church, Southgate.

Survivors include sons, Steven Walters of Salt Lake City, Anthony Walters and Rocky Walters, both of Bellevue; daughters, Kathi Walters Robbins of Fort Mitchell, Gerilynn Walters Harris of Crescent Springs and Maria Walters of Bellevue; her mother, Marie Ciani Wiefering of Southgate; a brother, Bill Wiefering Jr. of Southgate; and four grandchildren.

Services will be at noon Tuesday at St. Therese Church. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Dobbling Funeral Home, Bellevue. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas. Memorials are suggested to the Brighton Center, 741 Central Ave., Newport, Ky. 41071.
