Vladimir Lukashuk, professional violinist

Vladimir "Lucky" Lukashuk, of Erlanger, was a long-time music appreciator and violinist who loved the arts and the outdoors.

"He liked sports, he enjoyed golfing very much, and art and working in his garden, " his wife Betty Lukashuk said.

For more than three decades Mr. Lukashuk played violin in the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra before retiring in 1989. His wife said it was his passion.

"Of course it was, it was his profession, " she said.

Mr. Lukashuk died Thursdayat Baptist Village Care Center in Erlanger. He was 85.

Earlier in his career, before moving to the Cincinnati area, Mr. Lukashuk played in the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra and for Universal Studios.

He was also in the Navy for 4� years, beginning around 1942, his wife said. While there, he played in a string quartet for President Harry Truman.

"He was in a musical organization that went to the Postsdam Conference and played in string quartets for the president every morning, " she said.

He and Mrs. Lukashuk were married for more than 61 years.

"He had a lot of friends. He was a very outgoing person. I will miss him a great deal, " Mrs. Lukashuk said.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Lukashuk is survived by many cousins, friends and colleagues.

Services will be at noon Tuesday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger.

Memorials are suggested to Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, 1241 Elm St., Cincinnati, Ohio 45202.

Charles D. Buckler, 63, of Bellevue, died Thursday at his home.

He was a retired food service supervisor with Veterans Hospital, a member of the Dayton American Legion Post and Disabled American Veterans. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War.

Survivors include his wife, Susan Bucker; sons, Richard Buckler and Charles Buckler Jr., both of Bellevue; daughters, Mary Ann Reenan of Ludlow, Becky Ravenscraft of Silver Grove, Connie Byrnes of Cold Spring, Kelli Shafer of Butler and Tammi Smith of Highland Heights; sisters, Phyllis Cutter of Fort Mitchell and Nancy Gordon of Newport; 20 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Fares J. Radel Funeral Home, Newport. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.

Memorials are suggested to Disabled American Veterans, 3725 Alexandria Pike, Cold Spring, Ky. 41076.

Burton Gerald Cox, 79, of Villa Hills, died Tuesday at St. Mary's Medical Center, Middletown, Pa.

Arrangements are pending at Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home, Ludlow.

Herbert C. Griffith, 84, of Corinth, died at 10:15 p.m. Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.

He was a retired nurse's aide with Veterans Hospital, Lexington, and a former commercial fisherman and farmer. He was a member of Corinth Christian Church and Disabled American Veterans, and was an Army veteran of World War II. His first wife, Addie Miller Griffith, died in 1986.

Survivors include his wife, Alma Lovins Griffith; daughters, Connie Weaver of Frankfort, Louetta Wigglesworth of Sadieville and Ann Richardson of Corinth, Ga.; sons, David Griffith and Virgil Griffith, both of Sadieville, Boyd Griffith of Corinth, Jimmy Griffith of Warsaw, Danny Lee Griffith of Owen County and Julian Griffith of Harrison County; a stepson, Daniel Richard Stephen of Fairland, Ind.; stepdaughters, Rita Shepherd of Stanford and Marlene Stephen of Daytona Beach, Fla.; sisters, Jean Morrison of Georgetown and Etta Louise Benge of Twin Falls, Idaho; 40 grandchildren, 11 stepgrandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and 24 step-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at McDaniel Funeral Home, Corinth. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Pythian Grove Cemetery, Berry.

Loraine Gross, 86, of Tucson, Ariz., formerly of Harrison County, died Tuesday at King Hospital in Tucson. She was a homemaker and a member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church. Her husband, Willie Gross Sr., preceded her in death.

Survivors include sons, James Gross, Charles Gross and Willie Gross, all of Cynthiana, Melvin Gross and John Gross, both of Lexington; daughters, Mary Katherine Myles of North Dakota and Anne Paige of Tucson; a brother, Gene Allen of Cincinnati; a sister, Alberta Allen of Cincinnati; grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Ebenezer United Methodist Church, Harrison County. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the church. Burial will be in Cherry Grove Cemetery, Harrison County. Ware Funeral Home, Cynthiana, is handling arrangements.

Joseph G. Hardin Jr., 51, of Erlanger, died Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.

Arrangements are pending at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Covington.

Gladys M. Harvey, 83, of Highland Heights, died Thursday at her home. She was a homemaker. Her husband, George R. Harvey, died in 1960.

Survivors include a daughter, Janet Landers of Highland Heights; a son, Gary N. Harvey of Bridgetown, Ohio; sisters, Dorothy Miracle of Latonia and Madge Rollyson of Newport; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Visitation will begin there at 9 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Walnut Hills Cemetery, Cincinnati.

Donald N. Hembree, 62, of Carrollton, died Friday at Audubon Regional Hospital, Louisville. He was a retired assistant superintendent with the Kentucky Utility Co. and a member of Family Worship Center, Carrollton. His first wife, Alma Lee Hembree, died in 1983.

Survivors include his wife, Marchita Johnson Hembree; sons, Chris Hembree of Carrollton and Tim Hembree of Miami; a daughter, Jenny Kasper of San Antonio; stepsons, Matt Johnson and Richmond and Chad Johnson of Yelm, Wash.; sisters, Shirley Hall of Swan Pond and Kay Mills of Bardstown; brothers, Charles Hembree and Jerry Hembree, both of Trenton, Ohio, Robert Hembree of Elwood, Ind., Jack Hembree of Middletown, Ohio, Arthur Hembree of Harrodsburg and Danny Hembree of Artemus; and 12 grandchildren.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Family Worship Center. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the center. Burial will be in Birch Alford Cemetery, Artemus. Graham-Dunn Funeral Home, Carrollton, is handling arrangements.

Curtis J. Hughes, 86, of Sanders, died Thursday at his home. He was an antique furniture refinisher with the Warsaw Furniture Factory, a farmer and a member of Warsaw Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia Perkins Hughes; sons, Gary Hughes of Kent, Ohio, and Michael Lynn Hughes of Sanders; sisters, Lucille Bickers of Independence, Thelma Butcher of Carrollton and Sue Johnson of Ghent; two grandsons, two stepgrandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Carlton-Lowder Funeral Home, Warsaw. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Monday. Burial will be in Warsaw Cemetery.

Harvey R. "Dutch" Johnson, 88, of Erlanger, died Thursday at Villaspring Care Center, Erlanger.

He was a retired truck driver with Wilson Freight Co., and a former member of Lud-low Masonic Lodge and Teamsters Local No. 100, Cincinnati.

Survivors include nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Florence. Visitation will begin there at noon Monday. Burial will be in Belleview Bottoms Cemetery.

George Joseph Kaub, 73, of Walton, died Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was a farmer and a member of St. Cecilia Church, Independence.

Survivors include his mother, Hilda Kaub of Walton; a brother, Joseph R. Kaub of Walton; and sisters, Mary Lou Kahmann of Edgewood, Alvera Stegbauer of Lynchburg, Ohio, and Dorothy Carneal of Independence.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Cecilia Church. Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Independence. Burial will be in St. Cecilia Cemetery, Independence.

Marie Wade Kessen, 80, of Florence, died Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.

She was a former factory worker with Grote Manufacturing Co., Lightning Products and Duro Bag Co., a former employee of Colonial Culture Restaurant and a retired employee of Woodspoint Healthcare Center. She was a member of Florence First Church of God. A daughter, Jo Ann Kessen, died in 1960.

Survivors include her husband, Clifford J. Kessen; a son, Dennis Kessen of Bellevue; a daughter, Diana Patrick of Florence; a brother, Leslie Wade of South Surfside Beach, S.C.; a sister, Inez Webster of Cold Spring; and four grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Florence. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate.

Kenneth Bongkee Kim, 70, of Frank-lin Square, N.Y., formerly of Richwood, died Wednesday at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Manhattan, N.Y. He was a retired engineer with Brookhaven National Laboratory in Upton, N.Y., and president of Kenneth B. Kim Associates Inc., New York. He was formerly with Watkins Engineering in Lexington, EBASCO Services in New York and Seelye Stevenson Value & Knecht, and was a member of the governing board of the Korean Cultural Center in New York. He was a member of Lexington Masonic Lodge No. 1 F&AM;, the American Society of Civil Engineers, Japan Society of Civil Engineers and the American Academy of Environmental Engineers.

Survivors include his wife, ChungCha Kim; daughters, Janice Clare Kim of Manhattan, N.Y., Kathleen Adair Kim of Franklin Square, N.Y.; brothers, Charles "Ping" V. Caldwell and Merrill "Mert" S. Caldwell, both of Richwood, Robert K. Caldwell of Annapolis, Md., Changkee Kim and Chegkee Kim, both of Seoul, South Korea; sisters, Thelma Claire "T.C." Castellini of Richwood and WunJa Kim of Seoul.

Services will be at noon Tuesday at Stith Funeral Home, Florence. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Earl F. McGough, 77, of Ludlow, died Friday at Woodspoint Care Center, Florence. He was a retired sanitation department field lineman and a member of Sts. Boniface and James Church in Ludlow, Kehoe Council Knights of Columbus in Ludlow and White Oak Fellowship Club. He was a former member of the Auxiliary Police of Ludlow. His wife, Joyce Ann McGough, died in 1995.

Survivors include a son, Joseph McGough of Englewood, Ohio; a brother, Ronald McGough of Hebron; a stepbrother, Edward R. Grothaus of Edgewood; and a grandchild.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Sts. Boniface and James Church. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home, Ludlow. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Memorials are suggested to Sts. Boniface and James Church, 304 Oak St., Ludlow, Ky. 41016.

Connie Lee Padgett, 53, of Fort Wright, died at 6:01 a.m. Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.

She was a nurse at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South.

Survivors include a daughter, Theresa Boehmer of Fort Wright; sisters, Barbara Green of Edgewood, Deborah Worthington of Norwood, Ohio, Gail Baynum of Taylor Mill, Carol Breeze of Latonia and Peggy Crone of Fort Thomas; brothers, Ronald Watson of Cincinnati and William Watson of Latonia; and two grandsons.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Taylor Mill.

Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.

Johanna M. "Jo Ann" Sievers, 98, of Fort Wright, died at 1:15 p.m. Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.

She was a homemaker and a member of St. Xavier Church, Cincinnati.

Her husband, Hermann Sievers, died in 1956. A son, Henry H. Sievers, died in 1999.

Survivors include a daughter, Helen A. Sievers of Fort Wright.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 7 p.m. Monday at St. Xavier Church, Cincinnati. Visitation will begin there at 6 p.m. Monday.

Burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Mother of God Cemetery, Fort Wright.

Trudie Simonton, 91, of Erlanger, died at 10:10 a.m. Wednesday at Crestview Health Care Center, Shelbyville.

She was a homemaker and a nurse, and a member of First Christian Church, Covington.

Her husband, Harold O. "Si" Simonton, died in 1998.

Survivors include a daughter, Sally Knight of Frankfort; a son, David Simonton of Newport; and two grandsons.

Services will be at noon Monday at Forest Lawn cemetery Chapel, Erlanger.

Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Monday.

Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery.

Darlene D. Thomas, 45, of Elsmere, died at 1:45 a.m. Dec. 24 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.

She was a homemaker.

Stephen M. Willis, 51, of Covington, died Dec. 22 at his home.

He was a cab driver with Community Cab, Newport.

Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.

Vivian J. Wynn, 54, of Covington, died at 9:45 a.m. Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington.
