Roy Sandmann, quiet, but well-known for jobs

Roy F. Sandmann was one of Taylor Mill's best known residents.

He was the retired supervisor of maintenance for the city of Taylor Mill and the former owner and operator of Sandmann Auto Sales in the city.

"A lot of people in Taylor Mill knew him from his jobs, " said Mr. Sandmann's daughter, Patti S. Gotelli of Las Vegas. "He was a very quiet man, but a very well-known man."

Mr. Sandmann died Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was 80.

He was a member of Immanuel United Methodist Church in Lakeside Park.

Mr. Sandmann lived on Sandmann Drive, a street that was named by his father, who built a house there.

"Roy was a very kind, loving man, " said Karen Whaley of Florence, a friend. "He was always there when I needed a hand, as he was for anybody else who needed help.

"He always welcomed friends and treated everybody just like they were his own. He loved to tease with you and had a good sense of humor."

Mr. Sandmann enjoyed working on cars and he loved dogs.

Other survivors include a stepdaughter, Bonnie Frost of Largo, Fla.; a brother, Bill Sandmann of Taylor Mill; six step-grandchildren and 10 step-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Taylor Mill.

Visitation will begin at the funeral home at 11 a.m. Friday.

Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.

Memorials are suggested to Kenton County SPCA, 1020 Mary Laidley Drive, Fort Mitchell, Ky. 41017.

A.B. "Gusty" Bailey, 93, of Dry Ridge, died Tuesday at Grant Manor Health Care Center, Dry Ridge. He was owner of Bailey Lumber Yard and a member of Mount Carmel Baptist Church. His wife, Emma Lou Dance Bailey, preceded him in death.

Survivors include a son, Samuel Glen Bailey of Williamstown; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Williamstown. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Hill Crest Cemetery, Dry Ridge. Memorials are suggested to Mount Carmel Baptist Church Building Fund, 389 Mount Carmel Road, Williamstown, Ky. 41097.

Violet M. Gilligan, 90, of Erlanger, died Thursday at Villaspring Care Center, Erlanger. She was a retired waitress with Gibson Hotel, a member of Florence Christian Church and a member of the church Christian Women's Fellowship.

Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Langsdale of Florence; sisters, Madge Montedoniso of Lehigh Acres, Fla., and Pearl Rust of Norwood, Ohio; and brothers, Wallace Schmidt of Carmel, Ind., William "Bud" Schmidt of Las Vegas and Willis Schmidt of Hamilton, Ohio; and two grandchildren.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger. Cremation will be at Baxter Cremation Service, Cincinnati. Memorials are suggested to Alzheimer's Disease Association, 644 Linn St., Suite 1026, Cincinnati, 45203; or Hospice of Northern Kentucky, 1403 Alexandria Pike, Fort Thomas, Ky. 41075. Stith Funeral Home, Florence, is handling arrangements.

Emmett "Tom" Kinman, 58, of Walton, died Monday at his home. He was a retired truck driver with Refiners Transport in Middletown, Ohio and a business representative with Teamsters Union Local No. 100 in Cincinnati, and a member of Sanders Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Carol Speagle Kinman; sons, Ralph Kinman of Hamilton, Ohio, Michael Hicks of Burlington and Joshua Napier of Walton; daughters, Christine Curlin of Aurora, Ind., and Michelle Garnett of Hebron; brothers, Wendell Kinman of Carrollton, Gary Kinman of Hanover, Ind., and Louis Dusch of Radcliff; sisters, Betty Marsh of Carrollton and Debbie Holly of Ghent; and 12 grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Hamilton-Stanley Funeral Home, Verona. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery, Napoleon. Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice.

Ben P. Kraft, 74, of California, died Friday at his home. He was the owner of the Guys and Dolls nightclub.

Survivors include his wife, Pamela Kraft; a son, Paul Raney of Mentor; a brother, Paul Kraft of Cincinnati; and two grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Christ's Chapel, Erlanger. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the church. Burial will be in Grandview Cemetery, Mentor. Memorials are suggested to Christ's Chapel, 3819 Turfway Road, Erlanger, Ky. 41018; or Hospice of Northern Kentucky, 1403 Alexandria Pike, Fort Thomas, Ky. 41075. Chester Lainhart, 74, of Petersburg, died at 9:30 p.m. Monday at his home. He was a farmer. His wife, Mary Abdon Lainhart, died in 1982.

Survivors include a daughter, Betty Houze of Petersburg; a son, Chester "Chick" Lainhart of Dry Ridge; a stepdaughter, Marilyn Story of Burlington; a stepson, Tony West of Aurora, Ind.; his mother, Nannie Pearson Lainhart of Elsmere; brothers, Otis Lainhart of Petersburg, Elmer Lainhart of Latonia, Ernie Lainhart of Elsmere, and Orville Lainhart of Erlanger; sisters, Dora Johnson of Burlington and Judy Unthank of Hamilton, Ohio; two grandchildren and three step-grandchildren.

Private services will be at the convenience of the family. Memorials are suggested to American Heart Association, 2936 Vernon Place, Cincinnati, Ohio 45219. Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Hebron, is handling arrangements.

Pauline Shadoan Moree Moore, 82, of Columbia, S.C., formerly of Walton, died Saturday at Palmetta Richland Hospital in Columbia. She was a homemaker and attended Walton United Methodist Church. She was a member of Rosebud Chapter No. 39 Order of the Eastern Star and was a past chaplain of the Downey Souder VFW Post No. 1095 Ladies Auxiliary. Her husbands, Archee Moree and William Moore, and a son, Gene Moree, all preceded her in death.

Survivors include a daughter, Patricia Moree of Columbia; a son, Walter Moree of Morning View; a sister, Marguerite S. Justice of Florence; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Taylor Mill. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Thursday. Eastern Star services will be at 1:45 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Memorials are suggested to St. Rita School for the Deaf, 1720 Glendale-Milford Road, Cincinnati, Ohio 45215.

Stanley L. O'Neill, 64, of Lexington, formerly of Mason County, died Saturday at his home. He was a veteran.

Survivors include a brother, Mark J. O'Neill of Keller, Texas, and a sister, Mary M. O'Neill Cushing of Cincinnati.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Patrick Cemetery, Maysville. Brell and Son Funeral Home, Maysville, is handling arrangements.

Edeltraut Margaret Schoeps, 75, of Florence, died Sunday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Willie Schoeps, preceded her in death.

Survivors include daughters, Shirley Piper of Florence, Roswitha Shiply of Louisville, Heidi Eversole and Christa Smith, both of Covington, and Rebecca Marshall of Cincinnati; a son, William Schoeps of Cincinnati; a sister, Eva Heinz of Wisconsin; and nine grandchildren.

Services will be at the convenience of the family. Cremation will be at Baxter Cremation Service, Cincinnati. Memorials are suggested to American Diabetes Association, P.O. Henry "Harry" Schneider, 83, of Erlanger, died Saturday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. He was a retired employee of Burger Brewery and a custodian with the Erlanger-Elsmere Board of Education, a member of Ralph Fulton VFW Post No. 6423 and a former member of Prime Time Seniors. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Lois Stroup Schneider; sisters, Edna Yokom of Albion, Mich., Rosemary Moss of Elsmere and Vivian Shelton of Erlanger; and a brother, Jim Schneider of Erlanger.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Forest Lawn cemetery Chapel, Erlanger. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Thursday. Entombment will be in Forest Lawn Mausoleum, Erlanger. Memorials are suggested to Salvation Army, P.O. Box 14076, Covington, Ky. 41014. Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger, is handling arrangements.

Alice Mae Wiseby Taylor, 82, of Fort Thomas, died at 10:45 a.m. Tuesday at Carmel Manor, Fort Thomas. She was a retired secretary with Railway Express in Cincinnati, and a member of St. Ann Auxiliary Knights of St. John and National Railroad Business Women. Her husband, William E. Taylor, died in 1977.

Survivors include daughters, Marianne "Mayme" Amerine of Fort Thomas and Alice Deane Maurer of San Francisco; sisters, Mary Jo Henderson, Bernette Fitzgerald and Ruth Bush, all of Cincinnati; brothers, Charles Wiseby and Ray Wiseby, both of Cincinnati; and three grandchildren.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Carmel Manor Chapel, Fort Thomas. Visitation will begin there at noon Thursday. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas. Memorials are suggested to Carmel Manor, 100 Carmel Manor Road, Fort Thomas, Ky. 41074. Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Fort Thomas, is handling arrangements.
