Josephine Mussman Forsee, put energy in family, politics
Josephine Mussman Forsee took her religion and her politics seriously. The granddaughter of a Methodist minister, Mrs. Forsee raised two ministers and a mayor.

Mrs. Forsee, 96, of Newport, died Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington.

Mrs. Forsee spent countless years campaigning for Democratic politicians and working polls on election days.

"She did some electioneering, handing out literature, trying to influence individuals, " said son Robert Mussman, of Newport.

Her hard work paid off in accolades. She was 1955 Campbell County Woman of the Year and 1961 Disabled American Veterans Woman of the Year. She was a former Honorary Clerk of the Court of Appeals of Kentucky and a Kentucky Colonel.

Mrs. Forsee worked at the old Rollman's Department Store in downtown Cincinnati, earning the nickname "Radio" for her gift of gab, Mussman said.

She had to stop working the polls when her son, Ralph Mussman Jr., ran for Newport commission. He won, and went on to become Newport mayor. He died in 1987.

"She was unusual, I think, in being so active so long, " Mussman said.
