James "Jim-Due' Due, Covington barber

James "Jim-Due" Due of Covington was a third-generation barber at Due's Barber Shop at Seventh and Main streets.

Mr. Due worked with his father and brother at the business founded by his grandfather until it closed in 1987.

"He liked the association with his clients, " said Elaine Bowling of Florence, who is a cousin of James Due's wife, Loraine. "It was more of a neighborhood place where they all gathered.

"It was an old-fashioned barber shop to start with, and it remained the same until the day it closed."

James Due died Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North in Covington. He was 72.

Mr. Due was a native of Covington.

He was a past secretary-treasurer of the Kenton County Barber's Union Local No. 1099 and a past president of the Kentucky Board of Barbers.

When he had his health, Mr. Due enjoyed horseshoes. Later, he enjoyed watching sports on television.

"He was a sports enthusiast, " said Mrs. Bowling. "Any kind of sports - baseball, basketball and football."

Mrs. Bowling said Mr. Due kept his zest for life to the end.

"He was very witty and friendly, " she said. "He was a double amputee, but he never gave up the fight and never complained."

Besides his wife, Mr. Due is survived by a brother, Charles Due of Villa Hills.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Henry Church in Elsmere.

Burial will be in Mother of God cemetery in Ft. Wright.

Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home in Erlanger is handling arrangements.

Memorials are suggested in the form of Masses.

Arthur W. Bucher, 86, of Covington, died at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Carmel Manor Nursing Home in Ft. Thomas. He was a retired lithographer for Nunns and Himler Co., Cincinnati, and a former member of Knights of Columbus and Standard Club, Covington. He also was a member of Covington Eagles. His wife, Hilda Gronefeld Bucher, died in 1974.

Survivors include sons, Ronald Bucher of Ludlow and Denny Bucher of Ft. Mitchell; daughters, Sister Janet Bucher C.D.P. of Covington and Diane Brady of Edgewood; a sister, Mary Margaret Kohnen of Covington; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. John Church, Covington. Visitation will be from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Covington. Burial will be in Mother of God Cemetery, Ft. Wright. Memorials are suggested to Our Savior Church, Covington.

Donald Corbin, 65, of Covington, died at 8:25 p.m. Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington.

Arrangements are pending at Don Catchen & Son Funeral Home, Covington.

Randall Wayne Cross, 39, of Westminster, Md., formerly of Piner, died Sunday at his home. He was a night clerk with Westminster Inn in Westminster, and a former disc jockey with WNOP 740 AM, Cincinnati. He was a member of United States Security Systems.

Survivors include a brother, Thomas Cross of Westminster; and a half-brother, Robert R. Lee of Independence.

Memorial services will be at 7 p.m. Sunday at Pritts Funeral Home in Westminster. Visitation will begin there at 6 p.m. Sunday. are suggested to St. Jude Childrens Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tenn., 38105.

Jill Hostein, 42, of Jefferson, Wis., formerly of Northern Kentucky, died Monday at Ft. Atkinson Health Care Center in Ft. Atkinson, Wis. She was a resident and student of St. Coletta School in Jefferson.

Survivors include her mother, Elizabeth Thomas Hostein; and sisters, Brooke Beaumont of Los Angeles and Tracy Hostein of Beverly Hills, Calif.

Graveside services will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in Florence Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the school, W. 4955 Highway 18, Jefferson, Wis., 53549.

Dorothy Buring Hunt, 80, of Erlanger, died 11:25 p.m. Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was a homemaker and a member of Erlanger Grandmothers Club and St. Henry Church Altar Society, Elsmere. Her husband, Victor J. Hunt, died in 1968.

Survivors include daughters, Carolyn Hunt Hammond of Erlanger, Susan Chilton of Lebanon, Ohio, and Barbara Hunt of New Jersey; sons, Victor Hunt Jr. of Erlanger, Dennis Hunt of Burlington and Robert Hunt of Ft. Collins, Colo.; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 1 p.m. Friday at St. Henry Church. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Ft. Mitchell. Memorials are suggested to Erlanger Life and Rescue Squad, 505 Commonwealth Ave., Erlanger 41018, or the Altar Society, 3813 Dixie Highway, Elsmere 41018.

Blanche Jones, 84, of Corinth, died Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center Grant County, Williamstown. Arrangements are pending at Rogers Funeral Home, Corinth.

Alberta N. Love, 89, of North, Va., died Wednesday in North. She was a homemaker and a member of First Christian Church, Petersburg.

Survivors include a daughter, Jo Ann Love Jones of North, Va.; a stepson, Eugene Waldo Love of Villa Hills; nine grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Petersburg Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Foster-Faulkner Funeral Home in Mathews, Va. Memorials are suggested to the church. Linnemann Funeral Home, Burlington, is handling local arrangements.

Elmore Laurence "Moe" Metzger, 74, of Lillian, Ala., and Allentown, Pa., formerly of Newport, died March 31 at St. John Hospital in Pensacola, Fla. He was a retired journeyman wireman with International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and a member of Family Motor Coach. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean War.

Survivors include his wife, Doris Cooper Silon Metzger; sons, Richard Metzger of Signal Mount, Tenn., and David Metzger of Lamber tville, N.J.; a daughter, Marion Rizzo of Newburyport, Mass.; stepsons, Ted Silon of Los Angeles and David Silon of Sunnyvale, Calif.; a stepdaughter, Elizabeth Silon of New York City; five grandchildren and one step-grandchild.

Services will be at the convenience of the family. Cremation was in Pensacola, Fla. Memorials are suggested to Allentown Fine Arts Academy, 31 South Penn St., Allentown, Penn. 18101.

Tracy Lynn Clark Tedrick, 34, of Carrollton, died Monday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence, after an extended illness. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, Scott Rollin Tedrick; a son, Jeremy Blake Tedrick, at home; a daughter, Katie Lynn Tedrick, at home; her father, Harry Clark of Harrison, Ohio; and sisters, Terry Giles of Carrollton, Tammy Shoman and Kandy Kuzinic, both of Dry Ridge, and Gloria Clark of Pensacola, Fla.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Carlton-Lowder Funeral Home, Carrollton. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Friday.

Mary Helen Weems, 67, of Dry Ridge, died Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was a retired beautician.

Survivors include sons, Greg Kersey of Clarksville, Tenn., and Art Weems of Greenhills, Ohio; a daughter, Linda S. Amiot of Dry Ridge; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be at the convenience of the family. Burial will be at noon Friday at Resthaven Cemetery, Cincinnati. Radel Funeral Home, Newport, is handling arrangements.

Millard E. "Bill" Welch, 65, of Mansfield, Ohio, died Tuesday at Cleveland Clinic. He was a retired technician with Western Union and a member of Magic Club, where he was known as "Ring Eye the Clown." He was a member of Mansfield Men's Garden Club and American Association of Retired Persons.

Survivors include his wife, Mary E. Marshman Welch; sons, Cris Welch of Mansfield, Donald Dowden of Helena, Mont., and James Welch Paris of Sarasota, Fla.; his mother, Myrtle P. Nokes Welch of Covington; a sister, Sue Neumeister of North Carolina; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Finefrock Funeral Home in Mansfield. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Oak Grove cemetery in Mansfield.
