Jacob Fausz, carpenter and deacon

Jacob Dennis Fausz was a carpenter and a church deacon who used his hands to renovate hospitals and his faith to spread the gospel. "He did foreman work and trained apprentice carpenters. And he had strong beliefs in the Lord. He had a mastery of the Bible and could quote scripture, " said a daughter, Melody Brookbank of Edgewood.

Mr. Fausz, 79, of Florence, died at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday at his home. He was a carpenter with Union Local No. 698, Covington, and a member of Dayton-Bellevue Christian Church. He was a former elder, deacon and Sunday school teacher at the church. He also was an Army veteran of World War II.

Mr. Fausz was a Newport native who was described by his daughter as outgoing and friendly. He was a firm, but fair, father who was consistent with all his children, Mrs. Brookbank said. "He was really proud of his family. He had a strong value system and was a devoted husband, father and grandfather."

Other survivors include his wife, Dorothy Wolfe Fausz of Florence; a son, Dennis Fausz of Edgewood; daughters, Joselyn Beach of Warsaw, Ind., Patricia Koffarnus of Moberly, Mo., and Bonnie Sloane of New Haven, Conn.; brothers, Edward Fausz of Harrison, Ohio, and John Fausz of Lakeside Park; sisters, Ann Ziegler of Covington, Thelma Lucas of Alexandria and Frances Kueven of Taylor Mill; and 12 grandchildren.

Services will be at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill. Memorials are suggested to the church, Eighth and Walnut, Dayton 41074.

Dobbling Funeral Home, Bellevue, is handling arrangements.

Marguerite Cline, 77, of Crescent Park, died at 8:14 a.m. Tuesday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. She was a homemaker and a member of Lakeside Christian Church, Lakeside Park. Her husband, Wardy M. Cline, died in 1975.

Survivors include a stepson, John Cline of McDonough, Ga.; sisters, Ardyce Webster of Walnut Creek, Calif., and Lois Shelor of La Mesa, Calif; two grandchildren, three step-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Taylor Mill. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.

Memorials are suggested to the church building fund, 195 Buttermilk Pike, Lakeside Park 41017.

Dewey Calvin Dumas, 53, of Maysville, died at 6:35 a.m. Wednesday at his home. He was an industrial maintenance supervisor with Brown & Root at Inland Container Co., Maysville. He also owned The Olde Pawn Shop in Maysville.

Survivors include his wife, Bertie Hardin Dumas; daughters, Kimberly Alley of Jeffersonville, Ga., Michelle Singletary and Sherry Hamilton, both of Maysville; a son, Juaken Dumas of Pulaski, Tenn.; a sister, Dorothy Campbell of Magnolia, Ark.; brothers, Cecil Dumas of Springhill, La., and Gene Dumas of Queen City, Texas; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Brell and Son Funeral Home, Maysville. Visitation will be 5 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Green Acres Cemetery, Plumville.

Lela Engle, 83, of Bullittsville, died Monday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington. She was a homemaker and a former clerk with Whitakers Grocery in Bullittsville. She also was a member of Bullittsville Christian Church and Bullittsville Homemakers. Her husband, Delbert Engle, died in 1990.

Survivors include daughters, Doris Newland of Hebron and Wilma Engle of Covington; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services were this morning at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Hebron. Burial was in Belleview Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to the church, 3094 Petersburg Road, Bullittsville 41005, or St. Elizabeth Hospice, 401 E. 20th St., Covington 41014.

Janice Marie Fowler, 53, of Florence, died at 7 p.m. Wednesday at her home. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Paul Church, Florence.

Survivors include her husband, Fred Fowler; a daughter, Laurie Bessler of Burlington; sons, Scott Fowler of Ft. Thomas and Troy Fowler of Florence; her mother, Catherine Peak of Louisville; sisters, Doris Landay of Hacienda Heights, Calif., Betty Snellen of Louisville and Theresa Mitchell of Seminole, Fla.; and two grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Stith Funeral Home, Florence. Visitation will be 5 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Ft. Mitchell.

Memorials are suggested to St. Elizabeth Home-Health Hospice, 401 E. 20th St., Covington 41014.

Rose Mary Fredrick, 85, of Ft. Thomas, died Tuesday at the Highlands of Ft. Thomas nursing home.

She was a retired saleswoman with Pogues and Mabley & Carew department stores in Cincinnati.

Survivors include a daughter, Beverly Messmer of Ft. Thomas; a son, Charles Fredrick of Greenhills, Ohio; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Therese Church, Southgate. Visitation will be 5 to 8 tonight at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Ft. Thomas. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Ft. Thomas.

Anthony L. Gex, 94, of Ft. Mitchell, died at 12:05 p.m. Tuesday at Communicare of Clifton Nursing Center, Cincinnati.

He was a retired warehouseman with Procter & Gamble Co., Cincinnati, and a member of First United Methodist Church, Covington; Tadmor Lodge No. 108 F&AM, Warsaw, and Ft. Mitchell Senior Citizens.

His wife, Grace Jones Gex, died in 1975.

Survivors include a son, John Anthony Gex of New York City; a daughter, Joyce Taylor of Cincinnati; and two grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Covington. Visitation will be 4 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Entombment will be in Highland Mausoleum, Ft. Mitchell.

Memorials are suggested to the church, Fifth and Greenup streets, Covington 41011.

Charles Foster Hungler Sr., 84, of Covington, died at 3 a.m. Wednesday at St. John Care Center in Covington. He was a retired brakeman with Pennsylvania Railroad.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia Linda Freimuth Hungler; sons, Charles F. Hungler Jr. of Covington, Dennis Hungler of Independence and Stephen Hungler of Taylor Mill; daughters, Rita Furnish of Taylor Mill and Sharon Hamilton of Latonia; a brother, Bernard Hungler of Walton; sisters, Ruth Maloney of Nashville, Tenn., and Lawanda Long of Walton; 15 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Taylor Mill. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.

Robert J. Lannigan, 87, of Ludlow, died at 3:06 p.m. Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was a retired cashier for Fifth Third Bank.

He also was a member of Sts. Boniface and James Church in Ludlow and a member of the Retirees Fifth Third Bank Club.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia O'Brien Lannigan; daughters, Elaine Flanigan of Waukegan, Ill., Eileen Walz of Lakeside Park, and Linda Lannigan Velan of Pittsburgh; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the church. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home, Ludlow. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Ft. Mitchell.

Memorials are suggested to the breast cancer division of Wood Hudson Cancer Research Lab, 931 Isabella St., Newport 41071.

Bernice May Meyer, 65, of Ft. Thomas, died Wednesday at her home. She was a nurse with Hamilton County O.E.S. Nursing Home, Cincinnati. Her husband, John Meyer, died in 1978. A daughter, Tricia Meyer, died in 1972.

Survivors include daughters, Barbara Hagedorn of Ft. Thomas, Mary Kay Roth of Edgewood, Vicki Saccone of Cold Spring and Jean Beck of Alexandria; sons, John Meyer of Lima, Ohio, Stephen Meyer of Cincinnati and Joe Meyer of Erlanger; and 16 grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Thomas Church, Ft. Thomas. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Ft. Thomas. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery, Ft. Mitchell.

Memorials are suggested to American Lung Association, 11113 Kenwood Road, Cincinnati 45242, or to charity.

Madeline Mann Norris, 54, of Newport, died at 3 a.m. Wednesday at her home. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, James Norris; daughters, Jacqueline Mann of Ft. Mitchell, Jeanette Phillips of Covington and Michelle Jones of Newport; a sister, Jeanette Mills of Cincinnati; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be at noon Friday at Jones and Simpson Funeral Home, Covington. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in Mary Smith Memorial Cemetery, Elsmere.

Pauline Poland, 88, of Latonia, died at 11:40 p.m. Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington. She was a homemaker and a member of Latonia Baptist Church, Young At Heart Group and a past matron of Order of Eastern Star Daylight Chapter. She also was a member of Winston Hill Homemakers. Her husband, Elmer Poland, died in 1983.

Survivors include a daughter, Gloria Ludwig of Latonia; a brother, Bill Douglas of Covington; and two grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Swindler and Currin Funeral Home, Latonia. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger.

Memorials are suggested to Latonia Baptist Church Book of Remembrance, 3800 Church St., Covington 41015.

Charles P. Tolliver Sr., 73, of Independence, died at 6:35 a.m. Tuesday at St. Elizabeth

Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was a driver with Ryder Trucking Co., Cincinnati, and a member of Independence Church of God.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Tolliver; sons, Charles P. Tolliver of Independence, Douglas R. Tolliver of Harrah, Okla., and Jerry L. Tolliver of Jenks, Okla.; daughters, Connie Starkweather of Bucyrus, Mo., Karen Solan of Ellis Parie, Mo., Angela Tolliver and Danielle Tolliver, both of Covington; brothers, Carson Tolliver, Jim Tolliver, Joe Tolliver, Johnny Tolliver and Herbert Tolliver, all of Knoxville, Tenn.; sisters, Willie Tolliver, Nancy Eastridge and Libby Lillard, all of Knoxville, and Mima Jane Johnson of Dandridge, Tenn.; eight stepchildren, 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Taylor Mill. Visitation will be 4 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Independence Cemetery.
