Delores Hanks, Post secretary, volunteer

Dolores Theele Hanks had a penchant for helping others.

"She was a very pleasant person. She always had a smile, " John Feldman, the former advertising manager of The Kentucky Post, said of Mrs. Hanks.

Mrs. Hanks, 82, of Lakeside Park, died Thursday at her home.

For 18 years, Mrs. Hanks worked as both a secretary and the switchboard operator at The Post, said her sister, Connie Schneider of Independence.

"She was the secretary to the business manager Charles Willenborg. Half of her salary came from the business department and half from the editor's office, " recalled Feldman.

through the eighth grade, " her sister said.

"She had to wait until she was 7 years old for the school to open. The only school then was at the orphanage and my mother thought it was too far to walk. It was all right, because later she skipped a grade, " said Mrs. Schneider.
