Mary Boesch Bailey, school bus driver

For 22 years, Mary C. Boesch Bailey drove a school bus in Campbell County without a wreck or a ticket.

Through rain, snow, darkness and daybreak, Mrs. Bailey enjoyed her work and prided herself on delivering her charges safely.

One daughter, Lisa Casson of Alexandria, rode as a student under her mother's wing and was amazed by her mother's good attitude.

"I used to hate it because the children were screaming. I would walk home sometimes, " Mrs. Casson recalled. "But she had a lot of patience. She enjoyed people and children and she loved to talk. She was very outgoing."

Mrs. Bailey, 70, of Alexandria, died at 3:45 p.m. Sunday at River Valley Nursing Home in Butler. She also was a retired cafeteria worker with Campbell County Schools. A daughter, Connie Bailey, died in 1975.

Mrs. Bailey was a Campbell County native who believed in hard work and passed her ethic to her children. She enjoyed cooking and doting on her grandchildren.

"When she put her mind to something, she did it perfectly, " Mrs. Casson said.

She also leaves another daughter, Pam Bailey, of Alexandria; brothers, Joseph Boesch of Alexandria and Henry Boesch of California; a sister, Viola Kramer of Alexandria; and four grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at St. Mary Church, Alexandria. Visitation will be from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Alexandria Funeral Home. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Alexandria. Memorials are suggested in the form of Masses.

Jason Paul Ashcraft, 14, of Brooksville, died Saturday at Children's Hospital Medical Center, Cincinnati. He was a student at Bracken County Middle School, Brooksville, and a member of Chapel of Praise-Assembly of God, Falmouth, and its Royal Ranger Boys Club.

Survivors include his parents, Anita Daniels of Independence and James Paul Ashcraft of Brooksville; sisters, Carrie Lee Blevins and Jennifer Belvins, both of Newport and Angel Ashcraft of Brooksville; a brother, Adam Poe of Brooksville.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Radel Funeral Home, Newport. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Independence Cemetery.

Joseph Borecki, 73, of Florence, died Monday at St. Luke Hospital West in Florence.

Arrangements are pending at Stith Funeral Home, Florence.

Cassity Layne Coppage, 7 months, of Cynthiana, died Sunday at University of Kentucky Children's Hospital in Lexington.

Survivors include her parents, James Clinton and Angela Ritchie Blankenship Coppage; a brother, James Alan Coppage at home; grandparents, L. C. Coppage of Harrison County, Barbara Wheater of California, Jackie Alan Ritchie Sr. of Mason County and Marsha Sue Ritchie of Nicholas County; and great-grandparents, Fannie and L. C. Coppage Sr. of Harrison County, Fred C. Haley of Bourbon County, Glen and Mary Ritchie of Bourbon County and Mary Portwood of Richmond.

Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Davis Cemetery, Scott County. Ware Funeral Home, Cynthiana, is handling arrangements.

Robert Denniston, 76, of Belleview, died at 4 a.m. today at his home. Arrangements are pending at Stith Funeral Home, Florence.

Ella Earls, 92, of Latonia, died at 6:55 p.m. Friday at Rosedale Manor nursing home in Latonia. She was a retired nurse's aide.

Survivors include daughters, Ann Enwright of Covington, Edna Abner of Taylor Mill and Alma Smith of Stockton, Calif.; a brother, Jim Jones of Corbin; sisters, Mary Malicoat of Corbin and Alice Berry of Dayton, Ohio; 19 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Don Catchen and Son Funeral Home, Covington. Visitation will begin there at noon Wednesday. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.

Harold England, 81, of Dayton, died Saturday at his home. He was a retired driver for Dole Citrus Fruit, Melbourne, Fla. He was a member of Teamsters Local 110, Cincinnati.

Survivors include sons, Harold England Jr., of Dayton, Bill England and Bob England, both of Okeana, Ohio; daughters, Beverly Norris of Ft. Mitchell, and Wanda Stiver of Dayton; a sister, Flossie Allen of Salem, Ind.; 30 grandchildren, 55 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Cooper Funeral Home, Grants Lick. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in Grandview Cemetery, Mentor.

Richard Feldhaus, 78, of Florence, died at 12:29 a.m. today at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North Hospice Unit, Covington. Arrangements are pending at Stith Funeral Home, Florence.

Claude Fred Hallar, 81, of Latonia, died at 1:30 p.m. Monday at St. Luke Hospital East, Ft. Thomas. He was a retired self-employed construction contractor and a member of St. Stephen Episcopal Church, Latonia.

Survivors include a sister, Shirley Pomerenke of Denver.

Memorial Mass will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Cremation was at Hillside Chapel, Cincinnati. Memorials are suggested to the church, 212 E. 39th St., Latonia 41015. Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia, is handling arrangements.

Clare Hines, 45, of Wilder, died at 4:10 p.m. Saturday at Batavia Nursing and Convalescent Home in Batavia, Ohio. She was a stock trader with Ball & Gaynor Inc.

Survivors include her husband, David Hines; sons, Joshua Hines of Bellevue and Benjamin Hines of Wilder; her mother, Mildred Ulrich Weber of Ft. Thomas; brothers, Jeff Weber, David Weber and John Weber, all of Melbourne, Mike Weber of Mentor, Steve Weber of Cold Spring and Roger Weber of Alexandria.

Memorial Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Philip Church, Melbourne. Memorials are suggested to the Joshua and Benjamin Hines Trust Fund, in care of Star Bank. Dobbling Funeral Home, Ft. Thomas, is handling arrangements.

Bertha M. McCready, 86, of Covington, died at 11:05 p.m. Sunday at Florence Park Care Center. She was a retired seamstress and a member of Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption Ladies Altar Society, Covington.

Survivors include a brother, Paul Moeller of Cincinnati.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Visitation will be from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger. Burial will be in Mother of God Cemetery, Ft. Wright. Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society, 7730 U.S. 42, Suite C6, Florence 41042.

James A. Payne, 75, of Memphis, Tenn., formerly of Covington, died Sunday at Methodist North Hospital in Memphis. He was a retired machinist with Siemens, Cincinnati, and a member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Montgomery, Ohio. He was a World War II veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Eloise Payne; a son, William Payne of Memphis; a sister, Stella M. Adams of Norwood, Ohio; and three grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Rogers Funeral Home, Corinth. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery, Corinth.

R. Hildreth Platt, 83, of Cynthiana, died Monday at Edgemont Manor Nursing Home in Cynthiana. He was a retired farmer and a member of Central Christian Church, Cynthiana.

Survivors include his wife, Marjorie Kearns Platt; sons, Lowell Platt of Maineville, Ohio, and Lynden Platt of Harrison County; a daughter, Iva Joyce Rainey of Harrison County; sisters, Mabel Heinrichs of Harrison County, Eloise Sparks and Clarice Burns, both of Robertson County; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Ware Funeral Home, Cynthiana. Visitation will be form 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Republican Cemetery, Harrison County. Memorials are suggested to the cemetery, or Hospice of the Bluegrass.

Royce Richardson Sr., 71, of Covington, died Saturday at his home. He was a retired employee of R&L; Vending Co., Covington, and a member of Brown Memorial C.M.E. Church, Louisville. He was a professional musician.

Survivors include his wife, Olene Richardson; sons, Royce Richardson Jr. of Cincinnati, Rory Richardson of Ft. Thomas and Rawleigh Richardson of Louisville; a daughter, Elona Adams of Louisville; and six grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Lane Chapel C.M.E. Church, Covington. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the church. Burial will be in Linden Grove Cemetery, Covington. Jones and Simpson Funeral Home, Covington, is handling arrangements.

Louis F. Simmins, 74, of Latonia, died at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. A son, Allan J. Simmins, died in 1995.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Simmins; Robert L. Simmins of Dayton, Edward J. Simmins of Monument, Colo., Thomas C. Simmins of Steamboat Springs, Colo., and James D. Simmins of Hamilton, Ohio; a daughter, Mary Louise Spencer of Castle Rock, Colo.; a brother, Bob Simmons of Cresson, Pa.; a sister, Ruth Lavery of Boonetown, N.J.; and 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services were today at Don Catchen and Son Funeral Home, Covington. Burial was in Mother of God Cemetery, Ft. Wright.

Lauretta Sullivan, 75, of Florence, died Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. Arrangements are pending at Stith Funeral Home, Florence.

Sarah "Marie" Vaughn, 93, of Florence, died at 11:25 a.m. Sunday at Woodspoint Nursing Home in Florence. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church, Covington. Her husband, Lester Vaughn, died in 1972. A daughter, Roberta McNesse, died in 1971.

Survivors include a son, Roscoe Vaughn of Covington; six grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at noon Wednesday at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Covington. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Falmouth. Memorials are suggested to Hope, Cooner, Bradley Fund of the nursing home, 7300 Woodspoint Drive, Florence 41042.

Florence R. Wilson, 82, of Erlanger, died Monday at University Hospital, Cincinnati, of injuries suffered in an auto accident. She was a retired bookbinder and a member of Florence United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Howard R. Wilson; a daughter, Joyce E. Bonar of Erlanger; a son, Carl M. Wilson of Burlington; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church's new location, 8585 Old Toll Road, Florence. Visitation will begin there at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Ft. Mitchell. Memorials are suggested to the church building fund. Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Hebron, is handling arrangements.
