Dr. Robert H. Owens, gave to many causes

Members of the Ryland Lakes Country Club will remember Dr. Robert H. Owens whenever they look over their property.

The north hillside and the golf course are filled with white pines and other trees that Dr. Owens raised in a nursery and transplanted there.

Dr. Owens, who died Monday, also assembled three cookbooks to sell as fund-raisers for the club. The proceeds paid for tennis court lighting and landscaping for a new clubhouse.

The Crestview Hills resident was a member of the club for 38 years.

"Bob always pursued everything in life with a tremendous passion, from vegetable and flower gardening to raising trees, " said Judy Brandenburg Owens, his wife of 43 years.

Dr. Owens graduated from Indiana University Dental School in 1957, and in 1960 opened an oral surgery practice in Northern Kentucky. He was a member of the American Dental Association and the American Board of Oral Surgeons.

When he retired in 1997, he made a large donation to the Fellowship of Associates in Medical Evangelism. His surgical equipment and instruments went to Mashoko Christian Hospital in Zimbabwe.

Dr. Owens' father, Hays Owens, lettered in several many sports at the University of Kentucky, and his son was a big UK fan. He became involved in the UK Alumni Association and chaired many fund-raisers for the scholarship fund.

On his 70th birthday, he was given a basketball jersey signed by UK basketball coach Tubby Smith.

"Dad's greatest pride was his family. He was a totally devoted father and grandfather. He made every effort to be present for his grandchildren's activities. He was their biggest cheerleader, " said his daughter, Liza Lucas of Union.

Other survivors include a son, Robert B. Owens of Long Beach, Calif.; and three grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Lakeside Christian Church, Lakeside Park. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Linnemann Funeral Home in Erlanger.

Burial will be in Highland cemetery in Fort Mitchell.

Memorials are suggested to Saint Elizabeth Medical Center North Hospice Unit, 401 East 20th St., Covington, Ky. 41014-9988.

Nina Winterling Ashcraft, 97, of Dry Ridge died Monday at Gallatin Health Care Center in Warsaw. She was a homemaker and member of the Dry Ridge Baptist Church.

Her husband, Herbert Ashcraft, and her parents, Joseph and Maud Winterling, preceded her in death.

Survivors include a daughter, Louise Zoby of Williamstown; a step-daughter, Dorothy Beach of Dry Ridge; four grandchildren and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Williamstown. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until the time of services at the funeral home. Burial will be in New Vine Run Cemetery, Dry Ridge.

Memorials are suggested to Dry Ridge Baptist Church or the charity of the donor's choice.

Kimberly Kay Doyle Cooper, 43, of Augusta died Saturday at Meadowview Regional Medical Center in Maysville. She was a payroll specialist at Emerson Power Transmission, a member of Germantown United Methodist Church and Germantown BriteSiders Homemakers.

Survivors include her husband, Roby Cooper of Augusta; a daughter, Tabitha Sorrell of Germantown; and a grandson.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Palmer Funeral Home, Germantown. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Germantown.

Memorials are suggested to American Heart Association, 2936 Vernon Place, Cincinnati, Ohio 45219 or Hospice of Hope, 909 Kenton Station Road, Maysville, Ky. 41056.

John Charles Wesley Hinton, 77, of Falmouth died Saturday at St. Luke Hospital East in Fort Thomas. He was a member of the former Allen Chapel United Methodist Church, Falmouth. He owned the former Supreme Radio & TV in Falmouth and worked for the Square D Co. in Florence. A son, Joseph McRae Hinton, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, C. Juanita Pharris Hinton of Falmouth; daughters, Jacqueline Hinton-Cravanas of Knoxville, Tenn., and Billie Jean Stout of Batavia, Ohio; a son, John Anthony Hinton of Easton, Pa.; and six grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Woodhead Funeral Home, Falmouth. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Falmouth.

Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association, 2936 Vernon Place, Cincinnati, Ohio 45219.

Everett Kidwell, 96, of Erlanger died Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South in Edgewood. He was a painter, member of the Erlanger Christian Church and an avid bowler until he turned 90. A son, Curtley Kidwell, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Annette "Pettit" Kidwell; sons, Clarence Kidwell of El Paso, Texas, and John Kidwell of Coffeyville, Kan.; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Don Catchen & Son Funeral Home, Elsmere-Erlanger. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger.

Mose Kirk, 67, of Cincinnati, died Friday at St. Luke Hospital in Florence. He was a book binder for Cincinnati Bindery and the Art Guild.

Survivors include daughters, Sheila Kirk of Cincinnati and Kim Kilburne of Florence; sons, Ricky Todd of Cincinnati and Kris Kirk of Cincinnati; sisters, Loretta Kirk of Auburn, Ind., Ruby Hatfield of Cumberlain, Wis., and Betsy Carter of Cincinnati; a brother, Russell E. Kirk of Welton, Calif.; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

There will be no visitation or services. Chambers & Grubbs Funeral Home, Florence, is handling arrangements.

Edward "Ed" Lemox, 89, of Florence died Monday.

Arrangements are pending at Allison & Rose Funeral Home, Taylor Mill.

Donna J. Long, 56, of Warsaw died Sunday.

Survivors include a son, Kenneth Dennis of Stanford; a sister, Shirley Emerson of Cathedral City, Calif.; and two grandchildren.

There will be no services. Carlton-Lowder Funeral Home, Warsaw, is handling arrangements.

Thelma McCormick Lucas, 76, of Dry Ridge died Sunday at Grant Manor Health Care Center in Williamstown. She was a member of Dry Ridge Christian Church.

Survivors include her husband, Gus Lucas of Dry Ridge; daughters, Marrene Bradford of Stuart, Fla., Linda Perry of Williamstown and Debbie Middleton of Dry Ridge; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Eckler-Hudson Funeral Home, Dry Ridge. Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Hill Crest Cemetery, Dry Ridge.

Deborah Anne Perkins Mattox, 45, of Independence died Sunday at her residence. She was a part-owner of D&D; Auto Sales and a member of the Piner Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, James Michael Mattox; her mother, Glenna Perkins of Independence; a sister, Eva Rice of Cheviot, Ohio; a brother, Robert Perkins of Bethel, Ohio; and a step-son, James Michael Mattox Jr. of Paris, France.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Chambers & Grubbs Funeral Home, Independence. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Tate Township cemetery in Ohio.

Memorials are suggested to the Piner Baptist Church, 15044 Madison Pike, Morning View, Ky. 41063.

Mae O. Rice, 87, of Covington died Sunday. She was a retired waitress for the Madison Grill. She was past president and life member of American Legion Post 203 Ladies Auxiliary, Latonia.

Survivors include nieces and nephews.

Services will be at noon Wednesday at Allison & Rose Funeral Home, Covington. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of services Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Erlanger.

John W. Simons Jr., 35, of Covington died Saturday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was a machine operator.

Survivors include his wife, Pam Simons; stepsons, James Haney, Michael Haney and Joshua Haney, all of Covington; a stepdaughter, Kristie Haney of Covington; his mother, Diana Simons of Covington; his father, John Simons of Sparta; brothers, Kevin Simons of Sparta and Chris Simons of Walton; and daughters, Laura Simons of Dayton and Jennifer Simons of Walton.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until time of services Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.

Frances Thompson, 92, of Carrollton died Sunday at Carroll County Memorial Hospital in Carrollton. She was a member of Carrollton First Baptist Church. Her husband, Oakley Thompson, preceded her in death.

Survivors include a daughter, Sue Westrick of Carrollton; a son, Joe Patton of Scottsburg, Ind.; a sister, Elois Duncil of Melbourne, Fla.; a brother, Joe David O'Brien of Jacksonville, Fla.; eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Graham-Dunn Funeral Home, Carrollton. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Carrollton IOOF Cemetery, Carrollton.

Elmer Tolliver, 84, of Maysville died Monday at Augusta Health Care Center. He was a plumber with McNutts Plumbing, Maysville. His wife, Ruby Brunker Tolliver, preceded him in death.

Survivors include a stepson, Ray Johnson of Maysville; a half-brother, Johnny Blount of Wilmington, Ohio; and a step-granddaughter.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Brell & Son Funeral Home, Maysville. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until time of services Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Maysville Cemetery.

Raymond L. Wyatt, 66, of Independence died Sunday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South in Edgewood. He was a retired furniture refinisher with Federated Logistics in Dayton, Ohio. He was an Army veteran, a member of the Covington Masonic Lodge 109, the Standard Club and VFW Post 6095.

Survivors include his wife, Faye Rogers Wyatt of Independence; sons, Jason Wyatt of Covington and Sgt. Maj. Mark Farley of Fort Shafter, Hawaii; daughters, Arlene Stephenson of Florence, Trina Scherzinger of Oxford, Ohio, and Verna Baker of Walton; a step-daughter, Sondra Myers of Corbin; a sister, Bonnie Holton of Independence; and nine grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in Independence Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society, 6612 Dixie Highway, Suite 2A, Florence, Ky. 41042.
