Mary Louise Feldmann, taught school for 30 years

Mary Louise Feldmann spent most of her life educating and molding the lives of young children, teaching for 30 years in the Erlanger-Elsmere Schools system. And her former students never forgot her.

"Everywhere we went, Louise was always recognized and remembered by former pupils or parents of former pupils, " said her husband, Ted Feldmann, a retired assistant production manager of The Cincinnati Post.

Mrs. Feldman, of Erlanger, died Sunday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South in Edgewood of complications from surgery.

She began teaching at Locust Street School in Erlanger. After taking time off to raise her son and daughter, she taught at Dorothy Howell and Erlanger elementaries. When A.J. Lindeman Elementary School opened, she moved there and taught the fourth and fifth grades until her retirement in 1988.

"Mom was always proud to have taught in the Erlanger school system, " said her daughter, Mary Beth Feldmann, also a teacher in Erlanger. "She touched so many lives and left a legacy of love in each of her students."

"She was a wonderful wife and mother, and she never met a stranger, " said Ted Feldman.

Mrs. Feldmann was a former officer and member of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Simon Kenton Chapter of the Kentucky Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and was a member of the Kenton County Retired Teachers Association. She was a past president of the Erlanger Lions Ladies Auxiliary, and a former field commander sponsor and member of the Lloyd High School Band Boosters.

Surviving in addition to her husband and daughter are a son, Dr. Ted B. Feldmann of Louisville.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Mary Queen of Heaven Church, Erlanger. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger. Burial will be in Mother of God Cemetery, Fort Wright.

Aniela T. Collins, 77, of Villa Hills, died Monday at Villaspring Care Center, Erlanger. She was a homemaker and seamstress, and a member of St. Bernard Church in Dayton and the American Polish Association of Cincinnati. Her husband, Harry K. Collins, died in 1978.

Survivors include a son, Harry T. Collins of Villa Hills; a daughter, Rosemarie Mullins of Dayton; and three grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at A.C. Dobbling and Son Funeral Home, Bellevue. Visitation will begin there at noon Thursday. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Northern Kentucky, 1403 Alexandria Pike, Fort Thomas, Ky. 41075.

Sister Benigna Gerstlacher, 97, of Villa Hills, died Wednesday at St. Walburg Monastery, Villa Hills. Formerly Victoria Gerstlacher, she was a Benedictine sister for more than 70 years, serving the community as a seamstress and cook with St. Henry School, Villa Madonna Academy, Holy Cross, Blessed Sacrament, St. Benedict and St. Joseph schools locally.

Survivors include a sister, Catherine.

Mass of Christian burial was Sunday at St. Walburg Monastery. Burial was in the monastery cemetery. Memorials are suggested to St. Walburg Monastery, 2500 Amsterdam Road, Villa Hills, Ky. 41017. Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger, handled arrangements.

Charles H. Gilbert Sr., 61, of Foster, died Sunday at his home. He was a self-employed truck driver.

Survivors include his wife, Alma "Jackie" Gilbert; sons, Fred Gilbert of Falmouth, Bud Gilbert of Independence, Rick Gilbert and Tony Gilbert, both of Falmouth, and David Gilbert of Foster; daughters, Patsy Lonakar of Foster, Linda Razor and Cindy Wanstrath, both of Falmouth, and Angie Hurst of Ryland Heights; a brother, Soloman Gilbert of Falmouth; and sisters, Sara Eliza Teegarden of Falmouth, Patricia Irene Moore of Cynthiana and Mable Overbey of Point Pleasant, Ohio.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at cemetery Chapel, Lenoxburg. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at Peoples Funeral Home, Falmouth. Burial will be in Lenoxburg Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Hope, 1 W. McDonald Parkway, Maysville, Ky. 41056.

Barbara Jane Glover, 59, of Williamsburg, Ohio, formerly of Newport, died Monday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. She was a retired switchboard operator with the Academy of Medicine, Cincinnati.

Survivors include her husband, Alan Lee Glover, and a sister, Sandra Casebolt of Florence.

Services will be at the convenience of the family. Memorials are suggested to Shriners Hospital, 3229 Burnet Ave., Cincinnati, Ohio 45229. Cremation Society of Greater Cincinnati is handling arrangements.

Helen Hebbeler, 78, of Saturday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.

She was a seamstress and homemaker, and a member of St. Mary's Auxiliary and St. Agnes Church Altar Society.

Survivors include her husband, Richard Hebbeler; daughters, Kathleen Hebbeler of Davis, Calif., and Sharon Wight of Fort Wright; brothers, Joseph Anneken and Walter "Dick" Anneken, both of Cincinnati, and Ray Anneken of Fort Mitchell; and sisters, Loraine Popp of Latonia, Aurelia Fitzpatrick of Edgewood, Jeanette Brady of Erlanger, Audrey DeRose of Mohawk, N.Y., and Joan Stratman of Covington.

Memorial Mass of Christian burial will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at St. Agnes Church, Fort Wright. Cremation will be at Southwest Ohio Crematory, Milford, Ohio. Memorials are suggested to St. Agnes Church, 1680 Dixie Highway, Fort Wright, Ky. 41011; or Alzheimer's Disease Association, 644 Linn St., Suite 106, Cincinnati, Ohio 45203. Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger, is handling arrangements.

Rose Hunt Atherton King, 97, of Maysville, died at 3:25 p.m. Saturday at Meadowview Regional Medical Center, Maysville. She was a retired nurse's aide with Hayswood Hospital, Maysville, a former employee of Modern Laundry in Maysville, and a member of First Baptist Church of Maysville. Her husband, William Martin King, died in 1981.

Survivors include a stepdaughter, Deloris Manion of Georgetown, and a sister, Eva Miller of Erwin, Tenn.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Brell and Son Funeral Home, Maysville. Visitation will begin there at 1 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Maysville Cemetery.

Virginia Lear, 74, of Taylor Mill, died at 6:45 a.m. Sunday at her home. She was a retired clerk with Pogue's Department Store, Cincinnati, an a member of Decoursey Baptist Church, Covington, the Young at Heart Club with Calvary Baptist Church in Latonia and the Order of the Eastern Star. Her husband, H. Louis Lear, died in 1994. A son, Richard Lear, died in 1995.

Survivors include sons, Michael Lear and Timothy Lear, both of Covington; daughters, Carol Collett of Beavercreek, Ohio, Sharon Stegner of Park Hills, Bonnie Kinmon of Florence and Virginia Switzer of Covington; a brother, Robert Chaney of Independence; 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Swindler and Currin Funeral Home, Latonia. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Entombment will be in Highland Mausoleum, Fort Mitchell. Memorials are suggested to Decoursey Baptist Church, 8276 Decoursey Pike, Covington, Ky. 41015.

Virginia Ellen Obel, 79, of Newport, formerly of Taylor Mill, died Monday at Baptist Convalescent Center, Newport.

Arrangements are pending at A.C. Dobbling and Son Funeral Home, Bellevue.

Bernice Pennington, 77, of Florence, died Monday at her home. She was a homemaker and a member of Mary Queen of Heaven Church, Erlanger. She was a member of American Association of Retired Persons, the Mary Queen of Heaven Seniors Club and a former head of Marching Mothers of Boone County. A daughter, Diane Pennington, preceded her in death.

Survivors include her husband, Virgil Pennington; daughters, Sharon Brophy of London and Sue Stanton of Ames, Iowa; and five grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Mary Queen of Heaven Church, Erlanger. Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Stith Funeral Home, Florence. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Memorials are suggested to St. Elizabeth Home Health Hospice, 401 E. 20th St., Covington, Ky. 41014.

Audrey Violet Fortner Roland, 81, of Williamstown, died Sunday at Owenton Manor nursing home. She was a homemaker and a member of Bethany Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Jesse H. "Jake" Roland; sons, Jesse H. "Pete" Roland and Larry W. Roland, both of Williamstown; daughters, Cheryl Darlene Roland of Lexington and Beverly Sue Roland of Williamstown; brothers, Franklin Fortner of Lubbock, Texas, Fred Fortner of Corinth, Bobby Fortner of Mabank, Texas, and Philip Fortner of Frankfort; sisters, Emma Anderson of Covington and Freda Locke of Carrollton; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Williamstown. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in New Bethel Cemetery, Verona. Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society, 6612 Dixie Highway, Suite 2A, Florence, Ky. 41042.

Roger Slagle, 34, of Fort Mitchell, died Saturday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was principal of Sellman Middle School in Cincinnati.

Survivors include his wife, Heather Yates Slagle; daughters, Leighann Slagle and Rebecca Slagle, both at home; his mother, Patricia Yates of Fort Mitchell; his father and stepmother, Marshall and Nancy Slagle of Covington; brothers, Todd Slagle of Crestview Hills and Gregory Slagle of New York City; and grandmother, Helen Sullivan of Traverse City, Mich.

Services will be at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Fort Mitchell Baptist Church. Visitation will begin there at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Memorials are suggested to Roger Slagle Children's Education Fund, in care of any Fifth Third Bank of Northern Kentucky. Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home, Ludlow, is handling arrangements.

Homer Stamper, 78, of Covington, died Sunday at Veterans Administration Nursing Home, Fort Thomas. He was a retired employee of General Motors, a member of United Auto Workers and Old Regular Baptist Church in West Chester, Ohio, and an Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Novella Stamper; sons, Jim Stamper of Florence and Rick Stamper of Independence; sisters, Lena Elswick of Burlington, Cora Keel and Lorenda Cooper, both of Covington, Lola Mae Adams of Independence and Novella Marshbanks of Florence; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 9 a.m. Wednesday at Stith Funeral Home, Florence. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Rice Cemetery, Union.

Ralph M. Steffen, 83, of St. Louis, formerly of Florence, died Saturday at St. Anthony Hospital in St. Louis. He was an inspector with General Motors, a member of St. Paul Church in Florence and an Army veteran of World War II. His wife, Emma Steffen, died in 1990.

Survivors include a daughter, Janet Overbeck of St. Louis; brothers, Julian Buck Steffen of Fort Mitchell and Paul Steffen of Elsmere; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Stith Funeral Home, Florence. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice.

Stella Rosemarie Steffen, 84, of Cold Spring, died Saturday at Florence Park Care Center. She was a homemaker, a member of Bluegrass Seniors and St. Joseph's Seniors, and a former member of St. John Church, Wilder. Her husband, Albert B. Steffen, and a son, Leroy "Bing" Steffen, both preceded her in death.

Survivors include a son, James H. Steffen of Alexandria; a daughter, Darlene Tewes of Erlanger; a brother, Harold Roth of Cold Spring; 14 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Church, Cold Spring. Visitation will be from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at A.C. Dobbling and Son Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Alexandria. Memorials are suggested to Alzheimer's Disease Association, 644 Linn St., Suite 1026, Cincinnati, Ohio 45203.

Raymond J. Thomas, 88, of Gratz, died Sunday at New Horizons Medical Center, Owenton. He was a the former owner of Thomas Grocery in Gratz, a farmer and a member of Gratz Baptist Church, where he was a deacon.

Survivors include his wife, Sarah E. Cull Thomas.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Gratz Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 tonight at McDonald & New Funeral Home, Owenton. Masonic services will be at 6:30 p.m. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery, Owenton.

Betty Trisler, 82, of Manchester, Ohio, died Sunday at St. Luke hospital East, Fort Thomas. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Hiram Trisler, died in 1981.

Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Cooper of Grants Lick; sons, Michael Towler of Felicity, Ohio, and Timothy Towler of Cincinnati; a sister, Georgia Goodwin of Manchester, Ohio; grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Cooper Funeral Home, Grants Lick. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in Tate Township Cemetery, Bethel, Ohio.

Steven Turner, 37, of Newport, died Saturday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. He was an employee of Reliable Castings Co., Cincinnati.

Survivors include his parents, Carson and Hazel Turner of Newport; brothers, David Michael Turner of Verona and Paul Robert Turner of Bellevue; and a sister, Tonya Lynn Turner of Newport.

Services were this morning at Cooper Funeral Home, Grants Lick. Burial was in Alice B. Cemetery, Talbert.
