Phillip Lachmeier, 56, worked for newspapers

Phillip A. Lachmeier worked more than 20 years making up advertising pages for both The Cincinnati Post and the Cincinnati Enquirer.

And before he was forced to retire in 1988 because of multiple sclerosis, Mr. Lachmeier also worked as an usher at Reds and Bengals games.

"He was easygoing and always happy, " said his son, Phillip C. Lachmeier of Covington.

"He didn't have anything bad to say about anybody."

Mr. Lachmeier, 56, died Saturday at his home in Covington.

A native of North Fairmount in Cincinnati, Mr. Lachmeier was stationed in Germany while serving in the Army during the Vietnam War.

While working at the competing newspapers, Mr. Lachmeier passionately pursued an unrelated hobby.

"He was a very avid baseball card collector, " said his daughter, Carrie Fiasco of Cincinnati. "Gosh, he was a Reds fan all the way!"

Other survivors include sisters, Linda Singley of Cincinnati and Shirley Carter of Waynesville, Ohio; and two grandchildren. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Rebold, Rosenacker and Sexton Funeral Home in Cincinnati. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Vine Street Hill cemetery in Cincinnati.

Memorials are suggested to Multiple Sclerosis Society, 4460 Lake Forest Drive, Cincinnati, Ohio 45242.

Helen E. Griggs Bailey, 72, of Covington, died Friday at her home. She was owner of Tiny Diner at the Big Bone Boat Dock, and a former waitress with Olsner's, White Horse and Walt's Hitching Post restaurants. She was also a saleswoman with Wal-Mart in Florence and a member of Fellowship of Believers, Florence.

Survivors include sons, Walter M. Bailey of Covington, Shawn Bailey of Florence and Eddie Bailey Jr. of Rabbit Hash; a daughter, Scarlette Dane of Elsmere; a brother, Donnie Griggs of Covington; a sister, Margaret Ann Hummel of Cincinnati; 14 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Taylor Mill. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Memorials are suggested to American Kidney Foundation, 6110 Executive Blvd., Suite 1010, Rockville, Md. 20852.

Gerald P. Bond, 78, of Newport, died at 11:40 a.m. Friday at His home. He was a retired bartender with the Queen City Club, Cincinnati, and a Navy veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Mary E. Bond; daughters, Pat McLaren of Largo, Fla., Elizabeth Penrod of Highland Heights and Judy Boothe of Fort Thomas; sons, Robert Bond of Cincinnati and Richard Bond of Newport; 10 grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Newport. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate.

William Casey, 84, of Cincinnati, formerly of Northern Kentucky, died at 2:15 p.m. Thursday at Maple Knoll Village, Cincinnati. He was a deacon at Lockland Christian Church in Cincinnati, a retired driver with the Kroger Co. and a member of Fiskburg Masonic Lodge and Order of the Eastern Star. A son, William Robert Casey, died in 1947.

Survivors include his wife, Ruby Baker Casey; a son, Dennis Lee Casey of Madison, Conn.; daughters, Bonnie Jean Rogers of Fort Mill, S.C., Deborah Gale Casey-Harvey of Indianapolis and Pamela Sue Gay of Stockbridge, Ga.; a brother, Charles Robert Casey of Erlanger; and six grandchildren.

Services were at noon today at Lockland Christian Church. Burial was in Rest Haven Cemetery, Cincinnati. Memorials are suggested to Lockland Christian Church, 231 Mill St., Cincinnati, Ohio 45215; or Maple Knoll Village Future Care Fund, 11100 Springfield Pike, Cincinnati, Ohio 45246. Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia, is handling arrangements.

Helen Holbrook Creamer, 66, of Cynthiana, died Sunday at her home.

Arrangements are pending at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Independence.

Loraine Carter Fryman, 73, of Robertson County, died Saturday at her home. She was a farmer and a homemaker, and a member of Kentontown Christian Church. A daughter, Linda Kaye Fryman, preceded her in death.

Survivors include her husband, John W. Fryman; sons, Wesley Brian Fryman, at home, and John Michael Fryman of Robertson County; daughters, Laura Sue Gifford of Sardis, Connie Gayle Fryman, at home, and Kathy Jane Thomas of Robertson County; brothers, Charles Carter and Herbert A. Carter Jr., both of Harrison County; sisters, Cleo Fryman and Viola Fryman, both of Harrison County, and Linda Wood of Knoxville, Tenn.; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Robertson County Funeral Home, Mount Olivet. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Kentontown Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Hope, 1 West McDonald Parkway, Maysville, Ky. 41056.

Virginia Opal Helphenstine, 77, of Maysville, died at 4:20 p.m. Saturday at University Hospital, Cincinnati. She was a homemaker and a member of Island Creek Methodist Church, Manchester, Ohio. Her husband, Roy Thomas Helphenstine, died in 1995.

Survivors include sons, Tony Helphenstine of Auburndale, Fla., Paul Helphenstine of Seffner, Fla., Butch Helphenstine of Georgetown, Ohio, and Gary Helphenstine of Hampton, Va.; daughters, Sandra Slater and Pam Hardy, both of Plant City, Fla., Linda Hamilton and Tammie Mineer, both of Maysville, and Lisa Franks of Cabot, Ark.; a sister, Hester Souder of Maysville; 29 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Brell and Son Funeral Home, Maysville. Visitation will begin there at 6 p.m. today. Burial will be in Wedonia Cemetery.

Lee Ann Kuhl, 50, of Alexandria, died at 8:10 a.m. Saturday at her home. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, John Kuhl; a son, Randyll Hance of Marysville, Wash.; her parents, Dr. Joseph Hance of Marble Falls, Texas, and Lynn Eckler of Cincinnati; sisters, Beth LaLonde of Marshall, Va., and Marcia Maldonado of Atlanta; and two grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Alexandria Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Alexandria Cemetery.

Mary Hearn Lee, 86, of Williamstown, died Friday at Grant Manor Health Care Center, Williamstown. She was a caretaker and a member of Williamstown Baptist Church. Her husband, James Clifford Lee, and a son, James Franklin Lee, both preceded her in death.

Survivors include daughters, Etha J. Sumpter, Nora Parker and Janet M. Stephens, all of Dry Ridge, and Betty Jackson of Falmouth; 21 grandchildren, 52 great-grandchildren and 28 great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Williamstown. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery, Jonesville.

William N. McMillen Sr., 72, of Ludlow, died Sunday at Carmel Manor, Fort Thomas.

Arrangements are pending at Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home, Ludlow.

Emma Maye Moyer, 84, of California, died Saturday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. She was a retired employee of R.L. Polk & Co., Cincinnati, a member of Mount Olivet Baptist Church and attended Highland Heights Baptist Church. Her husband, Donald Ellis Moyer, died in 1994. A son, James Moyer, died in 2000.

Survivors include sons, Charles Moyer of Franklin, Tenn., Edward "Butch" Moyer of California, and Glynn Moyer of Melbourne; a daughter, Nancy Wood of West Union, Ohio; 15 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and 50 great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at A.C. Dobbling and Son Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Visitation will begin there at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Alexandria Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to First Baptist Church, 2315 Alexandria Pike, Highland Heights, Ky. 41076; or American Diabetes Association, 8899 Brookside Ave., Suite 102, West Chester, Ohio 45069.

Mildred Della Porter, 89, of Elsmere, died Sunday at Woodcrest Manor Nursing Home, Elsmere. She was a retired cafeteria worker with Ryland Heights School. Her husband, Harry B. Porter, died in 1968.

Survivors include a daughter, Sheryl E. Stegman of Elsmere; sons, Dale B. Porter of Edgewood and Lynn E. Porter of Independence; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill. Memorials are suggested to St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, 401 E. 20th St., Covington, Ky. 41014.

Carol Robinson, 48, of Elsmere, died Friday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.

Elizabeth L. Schweitzer, 85, of Dayton, died Saturday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Bernard Church, Dayton. Her husband, Edward Schweitzer, and sons, Edward Schweitzer and Robert Schweitzer, all preceded her in death.

Survivors include daughters, Rose Brockman and Rita Volkering, both of Dayton, Lorraine Clark of Fort Thomas, and Edna Waltz of Bellevue; 19 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.

Graveside services will be at the convenience of the family. Memorials are suggested to St. Bernard Church, 401 Berry St., Dayton, Ky. 41074. A.C. Dobbling and Son Funeral Home, Bellevue, is handling arrangements.

William H. Smith, 85, of Owen County, died Friday at New Horizons Medical Center, Owenton. He was owner of Smith House restaurant and a member of Marengo, Ill., Presbyterian Church. He was a former postmaster and an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. His wife, Kathleen Poe Smith, preceded him in death.

Survivors include a son, Wayne Smith of Owenton; a daughter, Billie Jo Ashcraft of Owenton; a brother, Fred Smith Jr. of Elgin, Ill.; a sister, Jamae Homuth of Elgin; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services were this morning at McDonald & New Funeral Home, Owenton. Burial was in IOOF Cemetery, Owenton. Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice.

Demetrie Stowers, 28, of Fort Thomas, died Oct. 1 at University Hospital, Cincinnati. He was manager of a Lee's Famous Recipe Chicken restaurant.

Survivors include his parents, Robin Stowers Sheffield of Fort Thomas and Michael Wright of Fort Thomas; a sister, LaMicka Wright of Fort Thomas; and brothers, Cameron Sheffield of Fort Thomas, Ryan Palmer and Michael Palmer, both of Covington.

Services will be at 7 tonight at First Baptist Church, Elsmere. Visitation will begin there at 5 p.m. Burial will be in Mother of God Cemetery, Fort Wright. Jones, Simpson and Gee Funeral Home, Covington, is handling arrangements.

Geneva O'Brien "Ginny" Walker, 78, of Owenton, died Friday at her home. She was a homemaker, a former Census Bureau employee and a beautician. She was a member of Owenton First Baptist Church and Owenton Homemakers, and was a past worthy matron of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Survivors include her husband, Maurice Walker; daughters, Lynn Vaught of Carrollton, Laura Duvall of Sarasota, Fla., and Bethany Stewart and Kathy Keith, both of Owenton; brothers, Richard Enfield of Kansas City and Jim O'Brien of Idaho; a sister, Pat Kane of Missouri; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Services were Sunday at McDonald & New Funeral Home, Owenton. Burial was in IOOF Cemetery, Owenton. Memorials are suggested to New Horizons Medical Center, 330 Roland Ave., Owenton, Ky. 40359; or Hospice of the Bluegrass, 508 E. Pike St., Cynthiana, Ky. 41031.

Thelma G. Sweeney Wilson, 82, of Newport, died at 1:54 p.m. Saturday at her home. She was a retired factory worker with the Miller Shoe Co., Cincinnati. Her husband, John Wilson, died in 2001.

Survivors include a son, Michael Sweeney of Dayton; brothers, Earl Botkin of Mason, Ohio, Harry Botkin of New Mexico and Bill Botkin of Florence; a sister, Joy Henry of Dry Ridge; and a grandchild.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Fares J. Radel Funeral Home, Newport. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Alexandria Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice.

Claude Young, 77, of Covington, died Wednesday at Good Samaritan Hospital, Cincinnati. He was a cement finisher.

Survivors include daughters, Claudia Chandler, Diana Johnson and Rosemary Martin, all of Cincinnati; sons, Jerry Young, Thomas Young and Steven L. Young, all of Cincinnati; 16 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at noon Tuesday at Jones, Simpson and Gee Funeral Home, Covington. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Walnut Hills Cemetery, Cincinnati.
