Janice Sinclair, nurse's aide

Disabled by a back injury she suffered on the job as a nurse's aide, she had to go on disability.

When she and her husband split up, she was left to raise five sons by herself.

Two of them she also had to bury -- Eddie Duncan, her oldest, who was struck by a motorcycle and killed in Covington about 12 years ago, and Gary Duncan, her second oldest, who died of cancer.

"It was tough on her, " said a sister, Sue Hawkins, of Fort Wright. "Money was very limited. But she did the best she could."

Ms. Sinclair, of Covington, died Thursday at Highland Heights Care Center. She was 59.

Her sister did have some good times, said Hawkins. She enjoyed her children and grandchildren, she loved reading, swimming and raising house plants and listening to country music. "Travis Tritt was her favorite, " said Hawkins. "She and I went to see him in person twice: at Turway Park and at the Clermont County Fairgrounds."

Her sister was often beset by pain and problems, Hawkins said. But when she was feeling good she could be engaging and funny.

"When she was feeling good, she would be all bubbly and laughing, " Hawkins said.

Surviving in addition to her sister are sons, Steven Duncan of Covington, Michael Sinclair of Erlanger and Gregory Spence of Duluth, Ga.; sisters, Norma Faye Campagnari and Vickie Treschner, both of Cincinnati, and Charlene Miller of Elsmere; brothers, Larry Duncan, Timothy Duncan and Ricky Duncan, all of Cincinnati; eight grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. today at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Covington. Visitation will begin there at 9 a.m. today.

Burial will be in Arlington Cemetery, Cincinnati.

Mitsuko I. Austin, 68, of Florence, died Friday at her home. She was a homemaker. A daughter, Deborah Lee Austin, died in 1987.

Survivors include her husband, Clarence Austin; sons, Raymond Austin of Elsmere and Richard Austin of Union; a daughter, Linda Paul of Oxford, Ohio; two brothers, four sisters and seven grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Stith Funeral Home, Florence. Visitation will begin there at 9 a.m. Monday. Burial will be in Peeno Cemetery, Hebron. Memorials are suggested to Hoxworth Blood Center, Account No. 3188, Mail Location 0055, University of Cincinnati Medical College, Box 193713, Cincinnati, Ohio 45219.

D. Blaine Blackburn, 83, of Dry Ridge, died Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center North, Covington. He was a maintenance supervisor with Clow Corp. in Richwood, Clyde Caldwell International Tractor in Williamstown, Pettit Motors in Independence and T&W; Ford in Williamstown. He was also a lineman with AT&T;, and a member of Dry Ridge Masonic Lodge and Dry Ridge Baptist Church. He was an Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Eva Blackburn; a son, Ron Blackburn of Harrison County; a daughter, Hope Gaines of Harrison County; a sister, Rosella Scroggins of Williamstown; eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Eckler-Hudson Funeral Home, Dry Ridge. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in New Vine Run Cemetery, Dry Ridge. Memorials are suggested to Alzheimer's Disease Association, 644 Linn St., Cincinnati, Ohio 45203; or Shriners Hospital for Children, 1900 Richmond Road, Lexington, Ky. 40502.

Paul J. Coghill, 60, of Carrollton, died Thursday at Norton Suburban Hospital, Louisville. He was a farmer and carpenter, and a member of United Pentecostal Church of Carrollton. His wife, Lili K. Coghill, died in 1998.

Survivors include sisters, Betty Robbins of Carrollton and Bertha Imel of Indianapolis; and a brother, Walter Coghill Jr. of Carrollton.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home, Carrollton. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in English Cemetery, Carrollton.

Ronald D. Jernigan, 54, of Erlanger, died Wednesday at Veterans Administration Medical Center, Cincinnati. He was a dispatcher with AirServ at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport and a Vietnam veteran.

Survivors include a daughter, Michele Weber of Verona; sons, Howard Jernigan of Florence, Nicholas Jernigan of Cincinnati and Jason Jernigan of Burlington; his mother, Zora "Peggy" Jernigan of Cincinnati; brothers, Eddie Jernigan of Science Hill, John Jernigan of Dry Ridge, Dean Jernigan and Barry Jernigan, both of Cincinnati; sisters, Becky Schwallie and Nancy Sander, both of Cincinnati; three grandchildren and his fiance, Patty Velazquez of Erlanger.

Services will be at 4 p.m. Sunday at Rebold, Rosenacker & Sexton Funeral Home, Cincinnati. Visitation will begin there at 1 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery, Cincinnati. Memorials are suggested to MICU Unit, Veterans Administration Medical Center, 3200 Vine St., Cincinnati, Ohio 45220; or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 500 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tenn. 38105.

Harold Lykins, 56, of Glencoe, died Thursday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was a farmer.

Survivors include his father, Orvel Lykins of Verona; brothers, Edgar Lykins of Owingsville, Ray Lykins of Verona, Darrell Lykins of Ghent; and sisters, Juanita Patrick of Salyersville and Carol Hanson of Verona.

Services will be at the convenience of the family. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Hamilton-Stanley Funeral Home, Verona.

Almeda Josephine Olverson, 79, of Cincinnati, died Wednesday at Drake Center, Cincinnati. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, Harold Olverson of Cincinnati and a brother, Roosevelt Martin.

Services will be at noon Monday at Ninth Street Baptist Church, Covington. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Monday. Burial will be in Mary Smith Cemetery, Elsmere. Jones, Simpson and Gee Funeral Home, Covington, is handling arrangements.

Raymond G. Prince, 59, of Mays Lick, died Friday at Meadowview Regional Medical Center, Maysville. He was a farmer.

Survivors include a daughter, Rachel Prince of Mays Lick; brothers, Robert Jordan of Maysville, Thomas Prince and Eddie Prince, both of Mays Lick, and Jessie Prince of Aberdeen, Ohio; and sisters, Patricia Anderson, Willa Prince and Geneva Ramey, all of Aberdeen, Loetta Cottey of Hamilton, Ohio, and Linda Prince of Mount Olivet.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Palmer Funeral Home, Mays Lick. Visitation will begin there at noon Monday. Burial will be in Mays Lick Cemetery.

Gladys M. Setters, 92, of Burlington, died at 12:14 a.m. Friday at Woodspoint Nursing Home, Florence. She was a homemaker and a member of Hebron Baptist Church. Her husband, Benjamin David Setters, died in 1980. A son, Benjamin Lee Setters, died in 1992.

Survivors include daughters, Betty L. Holladay of Burlington and Eva Mae Smith of El Paso, Texas; 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at noon Tuesday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Hebron. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Hebron Lutheran Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Hebron Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 92, Hebron, Ky. 41048.

Beatrice Tirey, 88, of Burlington, died Thursday at her home. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Winferd Tirey, and a son, James Danny Tirey, both preceded her in death.

Survivors include daughters, Betty Middendorf of Florence, Joyce Stieby of Independence, Sandra Dinser and Deborah Tillman, both of Burlington; sisters, Gertrude Wilson of Ida May, Aileen Mays of Middletown, Ohio, and Bobby Jean Evans of Beattyville; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services, 11 a.m. Tuesday at Linnemann Funeral Home, Burlington. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.

Elizabeth "Betsy" Venneman, 46, of Crestview, died at 3:15 p.m. Thursday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. She was disabled.

Survivors include her mother and stepfather, Georgia and John Pelle of Crestview; sisters, Mary Venneman of Alexandria and Pam Schaefer of Fort Wright; brothers, Ralph Venneman of Cold Spring, Dave Venneman of Los Angeles and Tim Venneman of the Marshall Islands; a stepbrother, John Pelle of Cold Spring; and stepsisters, Karen Lubbe of Madison, Ind., Nancy Johnson of Alexandria and Charlene Crowder of Grants Lick.

Mass of Christian burial will be in at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Church, Cold Spring. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas. Memorials are suggested to Redwood School and Rehabilitation Center, 71 Orphanage Road, Fort Mitchell, Ky. 41017; or The Point, 104 Pike St., Covington, Ky. 41011.

Pauline Ellen White, 80, of Fort Thomas, died at 11:45 a.m. Thursday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. Her husband, Emory Louis White, died in 1995.

Survivors include sons, Robert L. White of Hebron, Harold L. White of Jacksonville, Fla., Gene L. White of Highland Heights; a sister, Ruth Dalton of Highland Heights and Maude Catilla of Fort Thomas; half-sister, Pat Fitzpatrick of Ohio; six grandchildren and three great-granddaughters.

No services are planned. Mrs. White bequeathed her body to the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Northern Kentucky, 1403 Alexandria Pike, Fort Thomas, Ky. 41075; or UC Medical Center, 231 Bethesda Ave., Cincinnati, Ohio 45229.

Doris Tiller Wolfe, 80, of Independence, died at 1:32 p.m. Thursday at Christ Hospital, Cincinnati. She was a private duty nurse and a nurse with the former Booth Hospital, Covington. She was a member of Kento-Boo Baptist Church, Florence. Her first husband, Claude W. Tiller, died in 1961. Her second husband, Emory Wolfe, died in 1990.

Survivors include a son, James C. Tiller of Dry Ridge; daughters, Rebecca Tiller Hoppe of Taylor Mill, Bonita Tiller Mays of Denver, Patricia Tiller Brubaker of Cincinnati, Paulette Tiller Hensley of Florence, Nancy Tiller Pate of Vilonia, Ark., and Marka Tiller McDaniel of Houston; a brother, Lonnie C. Mabry Jr. of South Venice, Fla.; 16 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Kento-Boo Baptist Church, Florence. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Erlanger. Burial will be in Independence Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Kento-Boo Baptist Church Building Fund, 634 Kentoboo Ave., Florence, Ky. 41042.
