Andrew Loschiavo, always there to help other people

Andrew "Andy" Loschiavo, of Edgewood, a retired self-employed general contractor who helped construct numerous commercial buildings and homes, died Tuesday of cancer at Good Samaritan Hospital in Cincinnati. He was 79.

He was a former board member of Kentucky Enterprise Savings & Loan, and a member of Summit Hills Country Club in Crestview Hills and the Knights of Columbus.

Mr. Loschiavo was in the U.S. Marine Corps and served in Hawaii during World War II.

In the construction business, he specialized in building foundations.

"He was a wonderful family man, " said Mr. Loschiavo's daughter, Linda Loschiavo McCormick of Lakeland, Fla. "If anyone was in trouble or sick, he would drop everything to help out. He was always there, physically, emotionally, spiritually and, if needed, financially.

"A lot of people referred to him as a godfather, meaning that if someone needed help, he was the one to go to. He was always there for other people. He had an open heart for everybody."

Mr. Loschiavo enjoyed playing cards and golf. He also was an excellent dancer who especially enjoyed "cutting a rug" with the jitterbug.

"He had a sharp wit and read the newspaper religiously, " said McCormick.
