Robert F. Craycraft, 85, accomplished bowler had many hobbies

Robert F. Craycraft wasn't the type of man who sat around much and watched television.

Mr. Craycraft, 85, who died Tuesday at Highlands of Fort Thomas nursing home, was an awesome father, wonderful provider and someone who mastered whatever he set his mind to, said his daughter, Janis Piercey of Bellevue.

His hobbies included calligraphy, photography, coin collecting, refinishing furniture and gardening. During his peak years, he averaged 205 a game when he bowled, and he bowled three perfect games. He regularly shot in the 70s when he golfed.

He was inducted into the Northern Kentucky Sports Hall of Fame in 1987 for his accomplishments on the alleys and on the links. He was a founding member of the Northern Kentucky Junior Bowling League, a founder of the Bellwood Senior Golf League and member of the board of directors of the Greater Cincinnati Bowling Association.

He was a member of the Highlands High Athletic Boosters, and never missed the school's football, baseball and basketball games. "Wherever there was a Bluebird, that's where my dad was, " Piercey said.

At home, he was a strict disciplinarian, which his children came to appreciate later in life. He was married to Alice Craycraft for 52 years, Piercey said, and they were devoted to one another.

A Navy veteran of World War II, Mr. Craycraft was a member of Northern Kentucky EMMAUS and the Highland United Methodist Church in Fort Thomas. He was a retired project manager for American Sign.

Survivors include his wife, of Fort Thomas; another daughter, Carole Brennan of Newark, Ohio; a step-brother, William Watka of Richwood; seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate. Memorials are suggested to Alzheimer's Disease Association, 644 Linn St., Suite 1026, Cincinnati, Ohio 45203.

Wilbur Housten Baynum, 83, of Maysville, died at 9:45 a.m. Wednesday at Flemingsburg Hospital. He was a retired carpenter with Koetzle Corp., Cincinnati, a member of Seventh Day Adventist Church, Taylor Mill, and a Navy veteran of World War II. A son, Steven Baynum, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Louise Oma Baynum; a daughter, Debra Applegate of Maysville; sons, David Baynum, of Port Richey, Fla., and Donald Baynum of Maysville; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia. Visitation will begin there at 2 p.m. Friday. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Memorials are suggested to Seventh Day Adventist Elementary School, 5235 Taylor Mill Road, Taylor Mill, Ky. 41015.

Mattie Frances Bolden, 85, of May's Lick died Monday at Meadowview Regional Medical Center, Maysville. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church, Maysville. Her husband, Charles Gordon Bolden, preceded her in death.

Survivors include her sons, Gordon Lee Bolden of May's Lick, Charles Edward Bolden of Cincinnati and William Thomas Bolden of Maysville; daughters, Lydia Frances Dillingham of Cincinnati, Ruby Ann Bolden of Holyoke, Mass., Linda Susan Bolden-Smith of Indianapolis, Ina., and Viletta Mae Bolden Yates of Louisville; 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Palmer Funeral Home, May's Lick. Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. until the time of services Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in May's Lick Cemetery.

Easley P. Cameron, 82, of Covington, died at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday at Mary Rose Mission, Covington. He was an engineer with Conrail Railroad and an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. His wife, Madelyn Cundiff Cameron, died in 1989.

Survivors include daughters, Kristina Boberg of Crestview Hills and Yvonne Burkart of Fort Wright; a sister, Genevieve Arnsperger of Florence; and two grandchildren.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Highland cemetery Chapel, Fort Mitchell. Visitation will begin there at 9:30 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Mary Rose Mission, 1543 Russell St., Covington, Ky. 41011. Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Covington, is handling arrangements.

Anna Marie Campbell, 43, of Burlington, died at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Hospice Unit, Covington. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, Tony L. Campbell; sons, Jeremiah O. Campbell, Jacob Campbell and Jordan Campbell, all of Burlington; her parents, Howard Napier of Erlanger and Mark Napier of Florence; and sisters, Debbie Napier and Teresa Napier, both of Elsmere.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Catchen Funeral Home, Elsmere. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger.

Barbara Ann Conley, 49, of Burlington, died Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, James Conley; a son, Doug Conley of Burlington; her parents, Robert and Jackie Cox of Union; and brothers, Darrell Cox of Villa Hills and Doug Cox of Union.

Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Stith Funeral Home, Florence. Memorials are suggested to American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 2680, North Canton, Ohio 44720.

Mary E. Duddey, 87, of Fort Wright, died Tuesday at Madonna Manor Nursing Home, Villa Hills. She was an doctor's office manager and a member of St. Agnes Church, Fort Wright. Her husband, Walter G. Duddey, died in 1964.

Survivors include sons, Michael Duddey of Fort Wright and W. Stephen Duddey of Fort Thomas; a sister, Marjorie Smith of Mason, Ohio; grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday at St. Agnes Church, Fort Wright. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas. Memorials are suggested to Madonna Manor, 2344 Amsterdam Road, Villa Hills, Ky. 41011. Dobbling Funeral Home, Bellevue, is handling arrangements.

Evelyn G. Frakes, 84, of Taylor Mill, died at 12:55 p.m. Tuesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was a retired secretary with Madison Avenue Christian Church, Covington. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Latonia. A son, Dennis H. Frakes, and a daughter, Donna G. Weaver, both preceded her in death.

Survivors include her husband, Harold W. Frakes; a sister, Carolyn Johnston of Edgewood; and two grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia. Visitation will begin there at 9:30 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger. Memorials are suggested to Trinity United Methodist Church, 101 E. Southern Ave., Covington, Ky. 41015.

Melvin George Haigis Sr., 73, of Cold Spring, died at 2:42 a.m. Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. He was a retired salesman and department manager with Sears, and a member of St. Joseph Church, Cold Spring. He was a member of the church STP and handymen's group at the church.

Survivors include his wife, Elaine Hall Haigis; daughters, Kathy Shimala of Loveland, Ohio, and Melanie Hensley of Taylor Mill; a son, Butch Haigis of California; brothers, Norb Haigis of Pendleton County, Ron Haigis of Cold Spring and Gary Haigis of Falmouth; a sister, Betty Ruschman of Cold Spring; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Church, Cold Spring.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral home, Fort Thomas. Prayers will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas. Memorials are suggested in the form of Masses.

Rosemary Houp, 80, of Covington, died at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. Arrangements are pending at Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia.

Minnie Galbraith McDowell, 81, of Maysville, died at 8:17 a.m. Tuesday at her home. She was a homemaker and a member of McKindree Chapel Church, Bracken County. Her husband, Stanley McDowell, died in 1984.

Survivors include sons, Edgar Allen McDowell of Taylors, S.C., Dennis McDowell Sr. of Maysville and Monte McDowell of Kingston, Ohio; daughters, JoAnna Bowers of Aberdeen, Ohio, Melinda Lawrence of Dayton, Ohio, Connie Dixon of Maysville; 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Services will be at the convenience of the family. Memorials are suggested to McKindree Chapel cemetery Fund, in care of the Bank of Germantown, Germantown, Ky. 41044. Brell Funeral Home, Maysville, is handling arrangements.

Franklin D. McGuire, 60, of Dayton, died Tuesday at Veterans Administration Hospital, Cincinnati. He made wooden pallets for a living, and was a member of Disabled American Veterans, Amvets, Bellevue Vets, Kersten O'Day VFW Post No. 2899 in Dayton and the Dayton Eagles.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Blum McGuire; daughters, Holley Clark of Southgate, Peggy Zenni of Cold Spring and Sherry Farris of Dayton; a son, Franklin J. McGuire of Dayton; a stepdaughter, Laura Hammonds of Dayton; a stepson, John Seyberth of Taylor Mill; sisters, Ann Eldridge of Visalia, Calif., Betty Lamb of Louisville and Bonnie Whitehead of Demossville; a brother, Bill McGuire of Piner; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Bellevue. Visitation will begin there at 11 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate. Memorials are suggested to Veterans Administration, 4355 Ferguson Dr., Suite 270, Cincinnati, Ohio 45245.

Frank A. Mitts, 47, of Alpharetta, Ga., formerly of Fort Thomas, died Sunday at his home. He was a self-employed drywall finisher. His wife, Frances Kimbrell Mitts, died in 2000. His mother, Joyce Mitts, died Jan. 26.

Survivors include his father, Estill D. Mitts Sr. of Covington; a brother, Estill D. Mitts Jr. of Los Angeles; and sisters, Betty Stephens of Crittenden and Joyce Carol Burgess of Daytona Beach, Fla. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Hill Crest Cemetery, Dry Ridge. Elliston-Stanley Funeral Home, Williamstown, is handling arrangements.

Lena Evelyn Montague, 81, of Fort Thomas, died at 9:35 a.m. Monday at Highlands of Fort Thomas nursing home. She was a former secretary with the College Conservatory of Music, Cincinnati, and a member of Westwood Presbyterian Church in Cincinnati. She was a past president of the Fair Meadows Garden Club and secretary of the Withamsville-Tabasco park board. Her husband, James Montague, died in 1991.

Survivors include a daughter, Janice Montague of Highland Heights; a son, Kenneth Montague of Colorado Springs; a sister, June Watkins Davis of Cincinnati; and two grandchildren.

Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Highlands of Fort Thomas. Memorials are suggested to Highlands of Fort Thomas Activity Fund, 960 Highland Ave., Fort Thomas, Ky. 41075. Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Fort Thomas, is handling arrangements.

Thelma L. Turner, 81, of Union, died Tuesday at Gallatin Health Care Center, Warsaw. She was a bookkeeper with Fifth Third Bank.

Survivors include her husband, John H. Turner; a daughter, Kathy Simms of Florence; sons, Ron Turner of Tallahassee, Fla., and Steve Turner of Union; stepdaughters, Kay Isaacs and Linda Lee Isaacs, both of Union; a stepson, Don Turner of Union; sisters, Anna Cooney of Cincinnati and Ruth Waldeck of Galesburg, Ill.; brothers, Carl Wueben and Ed Wueben, both of Cincinnati; 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Stith Funeral Home, Florence. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Beechgrove Cemetery, Burlington. Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society NCICFUL, P.O. Box 102454, Atlanta, Ga. 30368.
