Lindo Foster, 75, former police chief

Lindo Foster, 75, of Taylor Mill, former police chief of Taylor Mill and Independence, died Saturday at his residence following a lengthy illness.

Mr. Foster worked 35 years for Cincinnati Bell while serving in the part-time positions as police chief of Taylor Mill in the 1950s and '60s and of Independence in the 1970s.

After retiring from Cincinnati Bell in 1982, he worked 10 years as a Kenton County deputy sheriff.

He was named "Policeman of the Year" in 1978 by the Boone-Kenton Fraternal Order of Police.

In 1959 he was honored as "Young Man of the Year" by the Kenton County Jaycees.

Mr. Foster started a boosters program to organize youth baseball in Taylor Mill and spearheaded fund-raising for ballfields. He also organized Teen Canteens and helped start a life squad.

"He was a born leader, " said Mr. Foster's son, Terry Foster of Taylor Mill. "He had a lo t of organizational skills and leadership qualities.

"He was very outgoing and a very good friend to a lot of people. He was very dedicated to his community."

His memberships included the Sunday Morning Club, American Legion Post No. 203, Kenton County Democratic Club, Kentucky Colonel, Taylor Mill Lions Club, Covington Moose No. 1469, Taylor Mill Boosters and Telephone Pioneers of America.

Mr. Foster served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean War, seeing duty in the Pacific Ocean, New Guinea, Japan and Korea.

Other survivors include his wife of 54 years, Mary Ruth Deaton Foster of Taylor Mill; sons Lindo Foster II of Florence, Timothy Foster of Taylor Mill, Tom Foster of Taylor Mill, Todd Foster of Union and Tracy Foster of Burlington; and 10 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Connley Brothers Funeral Home, Latonia. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Burial and honor guard service will be at Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.

Memorials are suggested to St. Elizabeth Medical Center Hospice, 401 E. 20th St., Covington, Ky., 41014 or to the Peggy Foster Memorial Fund, 760 Crocus Lane, Taylor Mill, Ky., 41015.

Jerry J. Blair, 60, o f Taylor Mill, died at 6:43 p.m. Sunday at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Cincinnati.

He was a self-employed construction worker and a Navy veteran of Vietnam.

Survivors include his wife, Buretta Jo James Blair of Taylor Mill; and brothers William E. Blair of Park Hills and Jim S. Blair of Lexington.

Graveside services will be at Little Mud Creek cemetery in Paintsville. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Don Catchen and Son Funeral Home, Elsmere.

Gary Lee Brewer Jr., 29, of Glencoe, died Saturday in an automobile accident in Hebron.

Arrangements are pending at Stith Funeral Home, Florence.

Stephanie Brewer, 30, of Glencoe, died Saturday in an automobile accident in Hebron.

Arrangements are pending at Stith Funeral Home, Florence.

Carole Ann Dodd, 58, of Latonia, died at 6 p.m. Friday at her home.

She was a homemaker.

Survivors include sons, Johnny Dodd Jr. of Hamilton, Ohio, Jeffery Dodd of Dayton and Phillip Grant of Cincinnati; a daughter, Tracey Ann Hanes of Columbus, Ohio; a sister, Sally Wright of Walton; and four grandchildren.

Services will be at 8 p.m. Tuesday at Catchen Funeral Home, Covington. Visitation will begin there at 6 p.m. Tuesday. Cremation will be at Hillside Chapel, Cincinnati.

William J. "Biff" Drews Jr., 53, of Erlanger, died Saturday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas.

He was an employee of Huff Flooring Co., Hebron.

Survivors include his wife, Kathleen Drews; daughters, Sandra M. White of Covington and Jennifer A. Drews of Ludlow; his parents, William J. and Virginia Meiners Drews of Florence; brothers, Jeffrey Drews of Fort Mitchell and Lawrence Drews of Lexington; and sisters, Cortlyn Schmidt of Cold Spring and Michelle Mozea of Newport.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Mary Queen of Heaven Church, Erlanger. Visitation will begin there at 9 a.m. Wednesday. Cremation will be at Southwest Ohio Crematory, Milford, Ohio.

Memorials are suggested to St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Cardiac Research, 1 Medical Village Drive, Edgewood, Ky. 41017.

Linnemann Funeral Home, Erlanger, is handling arrangements.

Beverly Ann Fortin, 36, of Augusta, died Friday at her home.

Survivors include a son, Kyle Miller of Lexington; a daughter, Shannon Bell of Lexington; her mother and stepfather, Lois and Calvin Sweet of Dover; a grandmother, Emogene Purcell of Augusta; and brothers and sisters.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Moore and Parker Funeral Home, Augusta. Visitation will begin there at noon Tuesday.

David N. Holdcraft Jr., 75, of Petersburg, died at 10:55 p.m. Friday at Woodspoint Nursing Home, Florence. He was an equipment operator with Belleview Sand and Gravel.

Survivors include his wife, Frances L. Holdcraft; a son, David N. Holdcraft III of Burlington; a brother, George Holdcraft of Greendale, Ind.; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Hebron. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Petersburg Cemetery.

Gary R. Lewin, 55, of Burlington, died at 4:37 p.m. Saturday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence.

He was a quality control manager with Jim Beam Brands, Cincinnati.

Survivors include his wife, Sharon Ann Luessen Lewin; daughters, Jennifer Lynn Lewin-McFall of Lexington, Kerry Ann Schrand of Villa Hills and Pamela Brooke Arlinghaus of Edgewood; his mother, Helen Crouch Lewin of Erlanger; and four grandchildren.

Memorial Mass will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Burlington. Visitation will begin there at 5 p.m. Wednesday. A reception follows the Mass. Cremation will be at Southwest Ohio Crematory, Milford, Ohio.

Janet M. Felty Pitzer, 67, of Florence, died Saturday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood.

She was a receptionist with Colonial Heights Retirement Center, Florence. Her first husband, Charles R. Felty, died in 1989.

Survivors include her husband, Ed Pitzer; sons, Roger Felty of Lakeside Park, Terry L. Felty of Newport and Kevin R. Felty of Cincinnati; her mother, Elsie Blair of Ashland; sisters, Dottie Lou Conley of Virginia and Loretta Parker of Maryland; and four grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Stith Funeral Home, Florence. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.

Thomas B. Riggs, 56, of Batavia, Ohio, formerly of Dayton, died Saturday at Christ Hospital, Cincinnati. He was a self-employed truck driver.

Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Riggs; daughters, Melissa Randolph of Cincinnati and Kimberly Riggs of Williamsburg, Ohio; sons, Johnny Riggs of Newport and Thomas Riggs of Batavia, Ohio; a sister, Ann Cross of Kite, Ga.; brothers, Charles Riggs of Maineville, Ohio, and Paul Riggs of Cincinnati; and 12 grandchildren.

Services were this morning at Dobbling Funeral Home, Bellevue. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate.

Memorials are suggested to John 3:16 Baptist Church, 1215 Main St., Cincinnati, Ohio 45210.

Catheryn Eleanor Steinhauer, 79, of Falmouth, died at 9:05 p.m. Friday at her home.

She was a homemaker and a member of Disabled American Veterans Ladies Auxiliary, Fort Thomas. Her husband, Harold Walter Steinhauer, died in 1991. A son, Gerald Steinhauer, died in 2002.

Survivors include a daughter, Florence Workman of Taylor Mill; six grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Covington. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate.

Memorials are suggested to Disabled American Veterans Ladies Auxiliary, 3725 Alexandria Pike, Cold Spring, Ky. 41076.

Jarrad Thomas Sturm, 11 days, son of Rhonda and Tom Sturm of Taylor Mill, died Thursday at Children's Hospital Medical Center, Cincinnati.

Other survivors include grandparents, Jack Thompson of Dayton, and Joyce and Gerald Sturm of Fort Thomas.

Services will be at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate.

Donald Earl Tucker, 70, of Maysville, died Friday at St. Joseph Hospital, Lexington.

He was an employee of General Motors, a member of Assembly of God Church in Ripley, Ohio, and an Army veteran of the Korean War.

Survivors include his wife, Allie Mae Hamm Tucker; a son, Donald E. Tucker of Ripley, Ohio; daughters, Bonnie Tucker Mullikin of Aberdeen, Ohio, and Mary Tucker Branham of Maysville; brothers, Darrell Tucker of Tollesboro, Roy Tucker and Eddie Tucker, both of Brooksville, Jake Fredricks of Texas; sisters, Edna Louise Jefferson of Maysville, Frances Henderson and Shelvia Burden, both of Mount Olivet, Margie Burton of Germantown and Linda Fegan of Augusta; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Palmer Funeral Home, Germantown. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Green Acres Cemetery, Washington.

Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donor's choice.

Edward Leo Williams, 87, of Cynthiana, died Friday at River Valley Nursing Home, Butler. He was a retired farmer.

His wife, Nellie Thompson Williams, and sons, Bobby Williams and Kenny Williams, all preceded him in death.

Survivors include sons, Donnie Williams of Winchester, Russell "Willie" Williams of Cynthiana and Ernie Williams; daughters, Faye Ritchie of Cynthiana, Sue Griffieth of Berry and Sandy Ritchie; 24 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Ware Funeral Home, Cynthiana. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in Battle Grove Cemetery, Cynthiana.
