Lawrence Young, Highland Heights council member

As a council member for nine years in Highland Heights during the 1970s, Lawrence A. Young helped guide the development of the city's first sewage system.

He went door-to-door asking residents to agree to the new system, said his youngest daughter, Carol Thress.

Mr. Young, who lived for years in Fort Thomas and Highland Heights before moving to Cincinnati, died from conjunctive heart disease Sunday at the Salem Woods Nursing Center in Cincinnati. He was 100.

While an official in Highland Heights, Mr. Young was a member of the Highland Heights Sewer Commission.

He also worked as an engineer with Cincinnati Bell.

Mr. Young was a member of Christ Church United Church of Christ in Fort Thomas, the Robert Burns Lodge No. 163 F&AM and the Telephone Pioneers of America. He was a volunteer at Travelers Aid and the Library for the Blind.

Mr. Young's wife, Edna, died in 1995.

His daughter, who lives in the Mount Washington in Cincinnati, remembers her father having a dry wit.

"He always had something funny to say, and he was great to be around, " she said.

Mr. Young was in a nursing home for several months, and he impressed the workers, whom he called waitresses, with his humor, she said.

Other survivors include another daughter, Joan Dallow of Melbourne, Fla.; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Entombment will be in Evergreen Mausoleum, Southgate. Memorials are suggested to Neediest Kids of All, P.O. Box 3426, Cincinnati, Ohio 45201.

Dora Rider Barnes, 84, of Warsaw, died Sunday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was a homemaker and a retired store clerk. Her first husband, Clifford Rider, died in 1966. Her second husband, Willard Bud Barnes, died March 23, 2002.

Survivors include a daughter, Rose Sullivan of Warsaw; stepdaughters, Patricia Tomlinson of Owenton and Jackie Ellis of Florida; a sister, Jane Haubner of Warsaw; a brother, Artie "Pete" Coleman of Somerset; grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Services: 1 p.m. Wednesday at Carlton-Lowder Funeral Home, Warsaw. Visitation: 5 to 9 tonight at the funeral home. Burial: Paint Lick Cemetery, Warsaw. Memorials: Oakland Baptist Church, Rural Route 1, Box 80a, Sparta, Ky. 41086; or the charity of the donor's choice.

Claudia Jackson Branham, 91, of Covington, died at 12:15 p.m. Thursday at Wind River Health Care Center, Riverton, Wyo. She was a homemaker and an elder, deaconess and Sunday school teacher with Madison Avenue Christian Church.

She was a past treasurer of the church's weekday school of religion, a past vice president of Senior Citizens of Northern Kentucky and a past chairwoman of the Housing Authority of Covington. She was a member of the Re tired Senior Volunteer Committee, a substitute elementary school teacher and a member of the board of the Covington Protestant Children's Home. Her husband, William Blair Branham, died in 1971.

Survivors include sons, Robert Branham of Renton, Wash., and Donald William Branham of Riverton, Wyo.

Services: 10 a.m. Thursday at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Covington. Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial: Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell. Memorials are suggested to Weekday School of Religion, 1806 Scott Blvd., Covington, Ky. 41014; or Alzheimer's Disease Association, 644 Linn St., Cincinnati, Ohio 45203.

Carolyn Reed Brumley, 65, of Bracken County, died Monday at her home. She was an instructional aide with Brooksville Elementary School, a bookkeeper and an office assistant before becoming a nurse with Harrison Memorial Hospital and Edgemont Manor Nursing Home in Cynthiana.

Mrs. Brumley was a former director of nursing with the nursing home. She was a former member of the Bracken County Board of Education, a past president of the Bracken County Band Boosters and the Town and Country Women's Club. From 1983-87, she served as chairman of the Bracken County Library board overseeing the placement of the library, and she was a member of Germantown Christian Church.

Survivors include her husband, Neil Brumley; sons, Joel Brumley, Steven Brumley and Brian Brumley, all of Milford; a daughter, Monica Hughes of Milford; a brother, Ralph 'Buddy' Reed of Clarksville, Tenn.; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Thursday at Ware Funeral Home, Cynthiana. Visitation: 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Bracken Memorial Cemetery, Brooksville. Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society, 6612 Dixie Highway, Suite 2A, Florence, Ky. 41042.

Eugene Elijah Creech, 45, of Erlanger, died Wednesday in Shelby County, Ala., in an auto accident.

He was a civil superintendent with Everclear Communications, Independence, and a member of Florence Christian Church.

Survivors include his wife, Sharie Pelfrey Creech; a daughter, Seana Creech of Lakenheath, England; a son, Ryan Creech of Torii Station, Okinawa, Japan; his mother, Mary Alice Taylor Creech of Florence; brothers, Wayne Creech of Louisville, David Creech of Geilenkirchen, Germany, and Phillip Creech of Crittenden; and a granddaughter.

Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Florence. Visitation: 5 to 9 tonight at funeral home. Burial: Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.

Coletta M. Egan, 86, of Fort Thomas, died Sunday at Highlands of Fort Thomas nursing home. She was a registrar with the Boy Scouts of America Dan Beard Council and a member of St. Thomas Church, Fort Thomas.

Survivors include a sister, Dorothy Egan of Fort Thomas.

Mass of Christian burial: 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Thomas Church. Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Dobbling Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Burial: St. Stephen Cemetery, Fort Thomas. Memorials are suggested to St. Thomas Church, 26 E. Villa Place, Fort Thomas, Ky. 41075; or spiritual bouquets.

George B. Frazier, 93, of Erlanger, died Sunday at St. Luke Hospital West, Florence. He was an employee of Krehbiel Printing, a groundskeeper with Florence Lions Park and an Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Ethel Frazier; a daughter, Kathy Frazier of Louisville; a son, Thomas Frazier of Worthville; four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Services: 6 p.m. Wednesday at Stith Funeral Home, Florence. Visitation: 4 p.m. Wednesday. Burial: 11 a.m. Thursday at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger. Memorials suggested to charity of donor's choice.

Theresa Huck Iles, 43, of Visalia, died Sunday at her home. She was a homemaker.

Survivors include her husband, Kenneth E. Iles; a daughter, Jennifer Webb of Florence; sons, William Butts of Cincinnati, Tony Hill and Curtis Hill, both of Visalia; her mother, Helen Huck of Merritt of Cincinnati; sisters, Jeannie Karwath of Fort Thomas and Mary Hamlin of Goshen, Ohio; a stepsister, Debbie Williams of Jacksonville, Fla.; and four grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Thursday at Muehlenkamp-Erschell Funeral Home, Fort Thomas. Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Cremation will be at Cincinnati Cremation Co.

Dewey R. Lewis, 73, of Sardis, died at 11:17 p.m. Sunday at Meadowview Regional Medical Center, Maysville. He was a retired farmer and an Army veteran of the Korean War.

Survivors include sisters, Fidella Tuel and Callie Maynard, both of Ripley, Ohio, Bercha Thacker of Felicity, Ohio, and Louann Applegate of Maysville.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Palmer Funeral Home, Mays Lick. Visitation: 5 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial: Forest Lawn Cemetery, Morehead.

Margaret Jacobs Miller, 88, of Elsmere, died at 3:25 p.m. Saturday at Woodcrest Manor, Erlanger. She was a retired clerk with Paris & Hytone Dry Cleaners in Covington and a member of Hickory Grove Baptist Church, Independence. Her husband, Lawrence Miller, died in 1965.

Survivors include a son, Leslie Jacobs of Walton; a daughter, Betty Moore of Independence; nine grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Taylor Mill. Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial: 2 p.m. Thursday in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Hickory Grove Baptist Church, 11969 Taylor Mill Road, Independence, Ky. 41051.

Ralph Burton Neal, 66, of Flatwoods, formerly of Fort Knox, died Monday at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital in Russell. He was retired from PCI, Wurtland, and a member of Moose Lodge, Ironton, the Ironton Eagles and American Legion Post No. 43, Raceland. A son, Mark A. Neal, preceded him in death.

Surviving are his life companion of 22 years, Wanda Harris; daughters, Sheryl Ann Slaughter of Russell Springs, and Lisa K. Kuney of Jacksonville, N.C.; sons, Daniel B. Neal of Tuscon, Ariz., and Dennis I. Neal of Fort Thomas; sisters, Lorraine Seither of Milford, Ohio, Shirley Amlung of Ontario, Calif., and Joyce Cain of Columbus, Ohio; brothers, Seldon "Jack" Neal of Lancaster, Ohio, and Robert Neal of Albuquerque, N.M.; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Services: 9 a.m. Wednesday at Evans Funeral Home, Raceland. Visitation: 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Graveside services: 2 p.m Wednesday in Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate.

Thomas K. O'Malley, 78, of Lakeside Park, died Sunday at Madonna Manor, Villa Hills. Arrangements are pending at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Covington.

Irene Ogburn, 88, of Madison, Ind., formerly of Carrollton, died Sunday at Kings Daughters Hospital in Madison. She was a retired seamstress with Meese Inc. in Madison and a member of Milton Baptist Church.

Survivors include sisters, Beulah Hewitt of Dupont, Ind., Mamie Coots of Carrollton and Ella Cardwell of Ghent.

Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday at Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home, Carrollton. Visitation: 5 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery, Carrollton.

Phillip Joseph Parker, 81, of Dayton, Ohio, formerly of Fort Wright, died Saturday at Spring Creek Nursing Home, Huber Heights, Ohio. He was a machinist with Cincinnati Shaper Co. and an Army veteran. His wife, Wanda M. Parker, died in 1995.

Survivors include a nephew, Thomas Neal of Dayton, Ohio; and nieces, Cathy Berle and Janice Berle, both of New Jersey.

Services: 1 p.m. Wednesday at Stith Funeral Home, Florence. Visitation: 11 a.m. Wednesday. Burial: Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erlanger.

Lawrence Joseph Richard, 57, of Wilder, died Sunday at his home. He was a disabled Army veteran of the Vietnam War.

Survivors include a son, John Richard of Wilder; a daughter, Melanie Richard of Newport; a brother, Raymond Richard Jr. of Cold Spring; a sister, Regina Clos of Silver Grove; and four grandchildren.

Services will be private. Cremation will be at Fares J. Radel Funeral Home, Cincinnati. Fares J. Radel Funeral Home, Newport, is handling arrangements.

Marjorie G. Smith, 83, of Robertson County, died Sunday at her home. She was a homemaker, retired nurses aid at Harrison Memorial Hospital and a member of the Mount Olivet Baptist Church. Her husband, Harold Edward Smith, preceded her in death.

Survivors include sons, Keith Smith of Atlanta, Ga., Herman Smith of Baltimore, Md., and Garry Smith of Franklin County; a daughter, Oneida Cooper of Mays Lick; five grandchildren, five step grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and six step great-grandchildren.

Services: 1 p.m. Wednesday at Mount Olivet Baptist Church. Visitation: 6 to 9 p.m. today at Robertson County Funeral Home, Mount Olivet and from noon until time of services Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery.

Mildred Stafford, 95, of Fort Thomas, died at 6:40 p.m. Saturday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas. She was a homemaker and a member of First Church of the Nazarene, Newport. Her husband, Clyde Stafford, died in 1994. A son. Wilburn Stafford, died in 1989.

Survivors include a son, Clyde Stafford Jr. of Cold Spring; daughters, Doris Bradley of West Palm Beach, Fla., Rosella James of Chicago and Barbara Anderson of Sarasota, Fla.; sisters, Ruby Eulett of Newport, Marie Neal and Edna Strode, both of Cincinnati; a brother, Ralph Eulett of Mansfield, Ohio; 18 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Services: 10 a.m. Thursday at First Church of the Nazarene, Newport. Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Fares J. Radel Funeral Home. Burial: Mount Tabor Cemetery, Tollesboro.

Ronald S. Taulbee, 63, of Falmouth, was found dead Saturday at his home. He was a retired employee of Cincinnati Milacron and an Army veteran.

Survivors include sons, Wayne A. Taulbee of Georgetown and Michael A. Taulbee of McClellanville; and three grandchildren.

Services will be at 9 a.m. Wednesday at Peoples Funeral Home, Falmouth. Visitation: 5 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Burial: Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.

Mary Vickers, 88, of Northern Kentucky, died Monday at St. Luke Hospital East, Fort Thomas.

Arrangements are pending at Allison and Rose Funeral Home, Taylor Mill.

Lucille E. Walerius, 83, of Florence, died Sunday at Madonna Manor, Latonia. Arrangements are pending at Middendorf-Bullock Funeral Home, Covington.

Frances Weathers, 86, of Edgewood, died Monday at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South, Edgewood. She was a homemaker and a member of Highland Wesleyan Church, Covington. Her husband, Richmond Weathers Sr., died in 1996. A daughter, Juanita Weathers, died in 1940.

Survivors include a son, Richmond Weathers Jr. of Edgewood; brothers, Meredith Sipple of Burlington, Paul Sipple of Visalia and Robert Sipple of Independence; a sister, Mary Spence of Taylor Mill; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday at Stith Funeral Home, Florence. Visitation: 10 a.m. Wednesday. Burial: Highland Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.
