Herschel R. Hoover
1910-1999
Herschel R. Hoover, 88, St. Joseph, died Saturday, June 26, 1999, at a St. Joseph health-care center.
Mr. Hoover, born in Kansas on Oct. 18, 1910, lived most of his life in St. Joseph.
He served in the Army National Guard.
Mr. Hoover was preceded in death by his parents, James and Margaret.
There are no known survivors.
The body has been cremated. Arrangements are by the Clark-Sampson Funeral Home, St. Joseph.

Frances N. Robison
1913-1999
LUDLOW, Mo. -- Frances Nadine (Wightman) Robison, 85, Ludlow, died Saturday, May 15, 1999, at a Chillicothe, Mo. health-care center.
Born June 28, 1913, in Braymer, Mo., Mrs. Robison worked in Kansas City. She married John "Wilson" Robison and moved to Atlanta. Later they moved to Fort Scott, Kan., where she retired. He preceded her in death.
Mrs. Robison also was preceded in death by her parents, George F. and Ruth J. Wightman; three brothers, Charles, Roy and Virgil Wightman; and one sister, Thelma Sparacino.
Surviving: a stepson, Robert J. Robison, Azura, Calif.; three sisters, Florence Sharratt, Chillicothe, Mo., Georgia L. Wightman, Braymer, Mo., and Nellie Holyfield, Springfield, Mo.; step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
Graveside service and burial: 11 a.m. Wednesday, Evergreen Cemetery, Fort Scott, Kan. Visitation: after 8 a.m. today where friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe. Memorials may be made to the Indian Hills Alzheimers Unit in care of the funeral home, P.O. Box 47, Chillicothe, MO 64601.

Annie E. Sharp
1933-1999
HAMILTON, Mo. -- Annie E. "Libby" (Altman) Sharp, 65, Hamilton, died Saturday, May 15, 1999, at the Cameron, Mo., hospital.
Mrs. Sharp, who had been employed as a waitress, also had owned and operated a secondhand store in Hamilton for many years.
Born in Charleston, S.C., on June 12, 1933, she lived in Long Beach, Calif., before moving to Hamilton in 1972.
Mrs. Sharp was a founding member of the Christian Union (Open Bible) Church of Hamilton and a former member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post.
On May 26, 1963, she married John N. Sharp in National City, Calif. He died in 1998.
Mrs. Sharp also was preceded in death by her father, Phillip Altman.
Surviving: a daughter, R. Naomi Cook, Hamilton; a son, John P. Bunch, Hamilton; her mother, Annie M. Altman, Ladson, S.C.; three brothers, Frank C. Altman, Ladson, John E. Altman, Massachusetts, and James C. Altman, Atlanta; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Service: 2 p.m. Wednesday, Bram Funeral Home, Hamilton. The body will be cremated following the service. Family visitation: 7 to 8:30 tonight, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Christian Union (Open Bible) Church in Hamilton.

Charles W. Simpson
1944-1999
Charles W. "Chuck'' Simpson, 55, St. Joseph, died Sunday, May 16, 1999, at a St. Joseph hospital after a brief illness of cancer.
Mr. Simpson was employed in the automobile service industry for many years, most recently with Greg Motors of St. Joseph.
Born in Kansas City on Feb. 17, 1944, he was reared in Mission, Kan., and moved to St. Joseph 25 years ago.
He graduated from the Shawnee Mission North High School and served in the Navy during the Vietnam War. Mr. Simpson was of the Methodist faith.
On July 7, 1986, he married Chris Gallus in Miami, Okla. She survives of the home.
Mr. Simpson was preceded in death by his parents, Charles W. Sr. and Bertha M.; and a half brother, John.
Additional survivors: a daughter, Rochelle Rhea, Vandalia, Mo.; a sister, Lois J. McIlvaine, Mission; two half sisters, Florence McKaughan, Kansas City, and Betty Decker, Liberty, Mo.; and four grandchildren.
Service: 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Meierhoffer Family Funeral Care, St. Joseph. The body will be cremated following the service. Visitation: after 2 p.m. today, at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight. Memorials may be made to the United Way of Greater St. Joseph or Humane Society.

Isabel Tanking
1910-1999
SENECA, Kan. -- Isabel "Belle" (Morrison) Tanking, 89, Seneca, died Saturday, May 15, 1999, at a Seneca health-care center.
Mrs. Tanking was a checkout clerk and worked in the meat department at the A & P store in Seneca for several years.
Born Jan. 10, 1910, southwest of Centralia, Kan., Mrs. Tanking was a graduate of Seneca High School.
On Sept. 13, 1929, she married Albert B. Tanking in Seneca. He died in 1971.
Mrs. Tanking also was preceded in death by her parents, John and Sarah Morrison; two brothers, Patrick and William Morrison; and four sisters, Iona Morrison, Pearl Malloy, Tennie Hartman, and Jenny Craft.
Surviving: nieces and nephews, including Lorene Lambert and Arthur Malloy, both of Topeka, Kan.
Graveside service and burial: 10:30 a.m. today, Seneca City Cemetery. No visitation is scheduled. Arrangements: Lauer Funeral Home, Seneca. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Waive L. Weldon
1899-1999
LEAVENWORTH, Kan. -- Waive Lou (Stark) Weldon, 100, Leavenworth, formerly of St. Joseph, died Saturday, May 15, 1999, at a hospital in Leavenworth.
Mrs. Weldon and her husband, Fred, owned and operated Weldon's Service Station at Car Town in St. Joseph for many years. She had also worked at Einbender's women's clothing store and J.C. Penney, both of St. Joseph, until retiring in 1965.
Born in Ford City, Mo., on April 24, 1899, she had been a resident of Leavenworth for 24 years.
On Jan. 23, 1937, she married Fred C. Weldon in Platte City, Mo. He is deceased.
Mrs. Weldon also was preceded in death by her parents, Elisha and Missouri J. Stark; and seven brothers and five sisters.
Surviving: a daughter, Joyce Sanger, Leavenworth; a sister, Lorraine Spainhower, Maryville, Mo.; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Graveside service and burial: 1 p.m. today, Grandview Cemetery, Albany, Mo. Arrangements: Beldon-Sexton-Sumpter Funeral Chapel, Leavenworth. Memorials may be made to St. John's Lifeline.

Opal Winn
1905-1999
PLATTSBURG, Mo. -- Opal (Harmer) Winn, 93, Plattsburg, died Monday, May 17, 1999, at a health-care center in Plattsburg.
Mrs. Winn had taught in the Smithville (Mo.) School District and North Kansas City, Mo., schools until retiring in 1970.
Born in Edgerton, Mo., on Nov. 13, 1905, she lived in Smithville and Plattsburg, Mo., most of her life.
She graduated from Northwest Missouri State University at Maryville, Mo. Mrs. Winn was a member of the First Christian Church and Chapter DF of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, both of Plattsburg.
On May 22, 1929, she married Perry R. Winn Sr. He is deceased.
Mrs. Winn also was preceded in death by her parents, Daniel and Jessie Harmer; a brother, Matthew Harmer; and two grandchildren.
Surviving: a son, Perry Jr., Plattsburg; two daughters, Mary Jo Bartlett, Santa Ana, Calif., and Louise Stalder, Plattsburg; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Memorial service: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, First Christian Church, Plattsburg. Burial: Green Lawn Cemetery, Plattsburg. Family visitation: 7 to 8 tonight, at the Cox Funeral Home, Plattsburg. Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church, Plattsburg.

Lemuel Woltje
1923-1999
JAMESPORT, Mo. -- Lemuel "Dutch" Woltje, 75, Jamesport, died Sunday, May 16, 1999, at a Kansas City, Kan., hospital from injuries suffered in a gas explosion last Thursday at his residence.
Mr. Woltje had been employed by the ANR Pipeline until retiring in 1983. During World War II, he served in the Air Force.
Born in Plains, Kan., on Oct. 15, 1923, he was reared there. He made his home in Meade, Kan., after his marriage and moved to Onaga, Kan., in 1959 and Jamesport in 1984.
Mr. Woltje was a member of the Joseph L. Norton Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 919 at Trenton, Mo.
On Feb. 10, 1951, he married Wanda Cox in Plains. She survives of the home.
Mr. Woltje was preceded in death by his parents, Franklin and Blanch; and 13 brothers and sisters; and a grandchild.
Additional survivors: two daughters, Pauletta Persell, Spickard, Mo., and Sandy McAlexander, Hope, Kan.; four sons, Ivan, Fort Collins, Colo., Charles, Merridan, Kan., Ernie, Circleville, Kan., and Lanny, Holton, Kan.; 13 grandchildren; eight stepgrandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Memorial service: 2 p.m. Wednesday, Resthaven Mortuary, north of Trenton. The body has been cremated. Inurnment: at a later date, Soldier (Kan.) Cemetery. Memorials may be made in his memory in care of the Whitaker-Eads Funeral Home, Trenton, or Farmers State Banks in Holton or Circleville.

Richard C. Kiefer
1923-1999
NEWTON, Kan. -- Richard Clarence Kiefer, 76, Newton, died Thursday, June 10, 1999, at a Wichita, Kan., hospital.
Mr. Kiefer, born in Horton, Kan., on April 11, 1923, had been an optician, and fabricated lens and glasses for several optical companies until retiring. He also had lived in Muscotah, Kan.
On Feb. 12, 1944, he married Lorene Waters in Holton, Kan. She survives of the home.
Mr. Kiefer also was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Mary; and a brother, Dale.
Additional survivors: two sons, Charles, Haysville, Kan., and Kenneth, Sedgwick, Kan.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Service: 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary, Horton. Burial: Horton Cemetery. Visitation: after 8 a.m. today and Saturday, at the mortuary, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8 tonight. Memorials may be made in his memory with a designation to be made later in care of the mortuary, 909 Central Ave., Horton, KS 66439.

Beulah Lenke
1918-1999
Beulah (Bower) Lenke, 80, St. Joseph, died Thursday, June 10, 1999, at a St. Joseph health-care center.
Mrs. Lenke had been employed as an operator for AT&T; for 20 years until retiring.
Born in Hemple, Mo., on Sept. 13, 1918, she had lived in the St. Joseph area and later in Menagha, Minn., for several years. She was a high school graduate and of the Christian faith.
Mrs. Lenke was preceded in death by her first husband, John R. Thompson; her second husband, Donald Lenke; her parents, Frank and Minnie Bower; and a sister, Margie Miller.
Surviving: a son, Gary Thompson, Marshall, Minn.; two brothers, Dale Bower, Easton, Mo., and Glenn Bower, Hemple; two sisters, Georgia Elder, St. Joseph, and Elva A. Randall, Vienna, Va.; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Service: 10:30 a.m. Monday, Rupp Funeral Home, St. Joseph. Burial: Memorial Park Cemetery, St. Joseph.

Ray W. Martin
1916-1999
SAVANNAH, Mo. -- Ray William Martin, 82, Savannah, died Sunday, June 6, 1999, at a St. Joseph hospital.
Mr. Martin had worked in lead mines in the Fredericktown and Flat River, Mo., areas for 11 years and left that job in the early 1950s. Then he entered the ministry, preaching in various First Church of God parishes and retiring in 1981.
Born in Fredericktown on June 26, 1916, he was a graduate of the Fredericktown high school and earned a bachelor of science degree in theology from Berean Bible College.
On Aug. 2, 1940, he married Ada P. Lawrence in Fredericktown. She survives of the home.
Mr. Martin was preceded in death by an infant son, Robert; and his parents, Henry and Stella.
Additional survivors: two daughters, Patricia Dudeck, Oregon, Mo., and Judy McCann, Madison, Mo.; two sons, James, Murphysboro, Ill., and William, Marsailles, Ill.; a brother, Henry, St. Louis, Mo.; two sisters, Wilma Woodall, Galveston, Texas, and Ruby A. Cook, Columbia, Texas; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Memorial service: 1 p.m. Saturday, United Methodist Church, Savannah. The body has been cremated. Private family inurnment: at a later date. Arrangements: Pettijohn & Crawford Funeral Home, Mound City, Mo. Memorials may be made to the United Methodist Church, 103 N. Fourth St., Savannah, MO 64485.

Rex R. Meneely
1919-1999
CHILLICOTHE, Mo. -- Rex Riley Meneely, 79, Chillicothe, died Wednesday, June 9, 1999, at a Chillicothe health-care center.
Mr. Meneely had been a salesman for Churchhill Truck Lines for 25 years, John Deere for three years, and Cooke Sales, all of Chillicothe, for 10 years; and at Firestone.
Born in Meadville, Mo., on Aug. 10, 1919, he had lived in Chillicothe for most of his life. He also had resided in Wisconsin from 1938 to 1943.
Mr. Meneely was a graduate of the Meadville high school. He was a charter member of the Calvary Baptist Church, where he had served as a deacon and Sunday School director; and member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows Lodge No. 91, both of Chillicothe.
On Jan. 1, 1938, he married Maxine Deem in Chillicothe. She survives of the home.
Mr. Meneely was preceded in death by two infant sons; and his parents, George A. and Bessie.
Additional survivors: two sons, Rex F., Kirksville, Mo., and Max E., Fairfield, Calif.; three daughters, Beverly Brown, Kansas City, Pat Reeter, Chillicothe, and Linda Lionberger, Savannah, Mo.; two brothers, Lenos, Meadville, and Howard, Chillicothe; two sisters, Betty Maxwell, Independence, Mo., and Kathryn Gooch, Meadville; 12 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
Service: 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Calvary Baptist Church, Chillicothe. Burial: Meadville Cemetery. Visitation: 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and 8 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, at the Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe; and 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, at the church. Edna L. Norrie
1901-1999
SABETHA, Kan. Edna L. (Fairbanks) Norrie, 98, Sabetha, died Thursday, June 10, 1999, at a health-care center in Sabetha.
Mrs. Norrie had taught and was principal of a junior high school in Dunlap, Iowa, for two years.
Born on a farm south of Dawson, Neb., on Jan. 10, 1901, she had spent her youth on a farm in Nebraska, having moved there from Wisconsin. After her father, DeHart, died, she lived with an aunt in Fonda, Iowa, where she was graduated from high school.
She attended Iowa State College in Ames, Iowa, for two years.
On May 27, 1923, she married Clarence Norrie of Sabetha. He died in 1980. In 1991, she became a resident of a health-care center in Sabetha.
Mrs. Norrie was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Sabetha, where she taught Sunday School and held several offices; and Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a charter member of the D.S.R. Club.
Mrs. Norrie also was preceded in death by her parents, DeHart and Fannie Fairbanks; and five brothers, Leon, Claude, Clyde, Earl and Harry Fairbanks.
Surviving: a daughter, Lorea L. Blair, Lincoln, Neb.; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Service: 11 a.m. Monday, Popkess Mortuary, Sabetha. Burial: Sabetha Cemetery. Family visitation: 7 to 8 p.m. Sunday, at the mortuary. Memorials may be made to the Sabetha Community Hospital or First United Methodist Church in care of the mortuary.
