Wyman L. Croskey
1910-1999
KEARNEY, Mo. -- Wyman L. Croskey, 89, Kearney, died Sunday, July 4, 1999, at a Kearney health-care center.
Mr. Croskey worked as a farmer and millman for the Goodjohn's Sash & Door Co., Leavenworth, Kan., and at Lumberman's Supply in St. Joseph.
Born Feb. 19, 1910, in Parkville, Mo., he was a lifelong resident of Platte County, Mo.
Mr. Croskey was a member of the Farley (Mo.) Christian Church.
On Nov. 14, 1934, he married Edith M. Dunlap in Platte City, Mo. She survives of the home.
Mr. Croskey was preceded in death by a daughter, Sharon R.
Additional survivors: three sons, Lloyd, Seattle, and Loren and Dennis, both of Kearney; two daughters, Joyce L. Pogue, Rockford, Ill., and Shirley J. Lyons, Seattle; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Service: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Rollins Funeral Home, Platte City. Burial: Platte City Cemetery. Family visitation: 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. tonight at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Farley Christian Church.

Ellen M. Delaney
1923-1999
Ellen M. (McHenry) Delaney, 75, St. Joseph, died Sunday, July 4, 1999, at a St. Joseph hospital.
Born July 27, 1923, in Gloucester City, N.J., she lived in St. Joseph most of her life. She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Delaney was a member of the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in St. Joseph and the St. Ann's Altar Society of the church. She also volunteered at the Heartland Hospital Gift Shop in St. Joseph.
On Feb. 16, 1946, she married Martin Delaney. He died in 1995.
Mrs. Delaney also was preceded in death by her parents, William J. and Marie D. McHenry; and a sister, Mildred Thornton.
Surviving: two sons, Daniel T. and Dennis P., both of St. Joseph; five daughters, Beverly J. Black, Michele R. Davidson, Catherine N. Delaney and Debi D. Foreman, all of St. Joseph, and Maureen K. Miller, Omaha, Neb.; a sister, Marie Foster, Pennsauken, N.J.; and 13 grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial: noon Wednesday, St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, St. Joseph. Burial: Memorial Park Cemetery, St. Joseph. A Ladies of Charity rosary will be recited at 3 p.m. today, with a separate rosary scheduled for 7 tonight, at the Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel, St. Joseph, where the family will receive friends from 5 to 8:30 tonight. Memorial contributions may be sent to the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church Endowment and Building Fund.

Sarah Greenwald
1918-1999
Sarah (Rashbaum) Greenwald, 81, St. Joseph, died Tuesday, June 1, 1999, at a St. Joseph hospital.
Mrs. Greenwald was a homemaker and a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She and her husband, Harry Greenwald, co-owned the Pay-N-Save Market in Denver until retiring in 1965.
Born Feb. 25, 1918, in Kansas City, she moved to Denver in 1954, and to St. Joseph in 1984.
Mrs. Greenwald was preceded in death by her parents, Phillip and Goldie Rashbaum.
Surviving: her husband, Harry, of the home; a son, Barry, St. Joseph; and a sister, Anita Dloogoff, Kansas City.
Graveside service and burial: 3 p.m. Thursday, Rose Hill Cemetery, Kansas City. Memorial contributions may be sent to the American Heart Association. Arrangements: Louis Memorial Chapel, Kansas City, and Heaton-Bowman-Smith & Sidenfaden Chapel, St. Joseph.

Walter W. Martinson
1913-1999
HORTON, Kan. -- Walter William Martinson, 85, Horton, died Tuesday, June 30, at a hospital in Atchison, Kan.
Mr. Martinson farmed all of his life in Brown County, Kan. He served with the Army from 1941 to 1950, during World War II.
Born Dec. 23, 1913, in Everest, Kan., he was a graduate of Hiawatha (Kan.) High School.
Mr. Martinson was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars post in Horton.
On Feb. 14, 1945, he married Anneliese Menuch in Frankfort, Germany. She survives of the home.
Mr. Martinson was preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Josephine M.; three brothers, George, Louis and Oscar; two sisters, Grace and Leslie; and a grandchild.
Additional survivors: two sons, Chuck, Weston, Mo., and Peter, Kent, Wash.; two brothers, Willard and Charles, both of Hiawatha; three sisters, Josephine Merchant, Myrtle Weidman and Edith Lang, all of Hiawatha; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Gertrude A. Arthur
1914-1999
PEACE DALE, R.I. -- Gertrude A. (Benjamin) Arthur, 85, Peace Dale, formerly of St. Joseph, died Saturday, July 3, 1999, at her residence.
Mrs. Arthur, born in St. Joseph on Feb. 8, 1914, had been a secretary for the Clarendon Presbyterian Church in Arlington, Va., for 12 years until retiring in 1970. She also had been a volunteer chaplain's assistant at the South County Hospital in Kingston, R.I.
She moved from Arlington to Peace Dale 25 years ago. Mrs. Arthur was a member of the Kingston Congregational Church, where she served as a deacon and on various committees, and was active in the circle group. She also was a member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood and Tuesday Morning Breakfast Group, both of Kingston; and was a volunteer at the Faye Weather House in Kingston.
Mrs. Arthur was preceded in death by her husband, Ira W.; and her parents, Frank and Nora Benjamin.
Surviving: three daughters, Alinda A. Nelson, Kingston, Christine A. Myers, Louisville, Ohio, and Nina A. Burke, Middletown, Va.; and seven grandchildren.
Memorial service: 2 p.m. Friday, Kingston Congregational Church. Private family burial: Old Fernwood Cemetery, Kingston. Arrangements: Avery-Storti Funeral Home, Kingston. Gordon G. Bledsoe
1913-1999
HARLINGEN, Texas -- Gordon G. Bledsoe, 85, Harlingen, formerly of St. Joseph, died Sunday, July 4, 1999, at a Harlingen hospital.
Mr. Bledsoe had been employed by a lumber company for many years. During World War II, he served in the Army 5th Cavalry.
Born in St. Joseph on Sept. 7, 1913, he had resided in California for 30 years and in Texas for the past 15 years.
Mr. Bledsoe was a former member of the Moose Lodge in St. Joseph.
He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Murge M. Sinnett, in 1998; a daughter, Joyce Valentine; his parents, Herbert and Minnie; and a sister, Pauline McDonald.
Surviving: a son, Herbert, Bangkok, Thailand; a stepson, James J. Sinnett, Harlingen; and a stepdaughter, Deanna Horn, Des Moines, Iowa.
Graveside service and burial: 10 a.m. Thursday, Memorial Park Cemetery, St. Joseph. Family visitation: 6:30 to 8 tonight, at Meierhoffer Family Funeral Care, St. Joseph.

Maxon L. Davidson
TARKIO, Mo. -- Maxon Luke Davidson, two-day-old son of Joseph and JoAnn Davidson, Tarkio, died Monday, July 5, 1999, at a Kansas City hospital.
Maxon was born at a Kansas City hospital on July 3, 1999.
Additional survivors: two brothers, Adler J. and Erik P., both of the home; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Murray, Lowry, Minn.; paternal grandparents, Wayne and Betty Davidson, Tarkio; maternal great-grandfathers, Roland Kraft, Blackduck, Minn., and James Murray, Brainerd, Minn.; and paternal great-grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Davidson, Clearwater, Fla.
Service: 2 p.m. Friday, Baptist Church, Tarkio. Burial: Tarkio Home Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Arrangements: Davis Funeral Home, Tarkio. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, Tarkio.

Elizabeth Deters
1912-1999
SENECA, Kan. -- Elizabeth (Fangman) Deters, 88, Seneca, died Monday, July 5, 1999, at a Seneca hospital.
Mrs. Deters was born July 22, 1912, on a farm north of Seneca and attended St. Mary's School, St. Benedict, Kan.
She was a member of SS. Peter & Paul Church, Seneca, and St. Ann's Altar Society of the church.
On Sept. 23, 1931, she married Joseph C. Deters in St. Benedict. They farmed north of Baileyville, Kan., until 1976, when they retired and moved to Seneca. He survives of Seneca.
Mrs. Deters was preceded in death by her parents, Anton and Mary Fangman; three sisters; and five brothers.
Additional survivors: three sons, Gerald, Seattle, John, Topeka, Kan., and Stephen, Baileyville; two daughters, Janice Wallace, Albuquerque, N.M., and Doris Grilliot, Mount Pleasant, Iowa; 14 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial: 10:30 a.m. Friday, SS. Peter & Paul Church, Seneca. Burial: SS. Peter & Paul Church Cemetery, Seneca. Visitation: after 4 p.m. today, Lauer Funeral Home, Seneca. Raphael V. Doyle
1914-1999
GALLATIN, Mo. -- Raphael Vincent "Mike" Doyle, 84, Gallatin, died Monday, July 5, 1999, at the home of his stepchildren, Constance and John Thomas in Gallatin.
Mr. Doyle began farming in Caldwell County, Mo., near Kidder, Mo., in 1932. During World War II, he worked at the Kansas City Bomber, formerly the Buick, Oldsmobile and Pontiac auto assembly plant, as a security guard. After the war, he returned to farming in Caldwell and Daviess Counties, Mo., retiring in 1969.
Born in Kidder on July 15, 1914, he was reared in Kansas City and was a graduate of Manuel High School, where he played left tackle on the football team. He had been a resident of Gallatin since 1969.
He was an accomplished violinist, banjo and guitar player, and pianist, and conducted the high school orchestra. He also gave private music lessons for most of his life.
Mr. Doyle was a former member of the Altamont (Mo.) United Methodist Church and a member of the First Baptist Church in Gallatin. He had served on the board of directors of the Daviess County ASCA-USDA. He also was a member of the Polka Dot Musical Group, which performed in Northwest Missouri.
In 1934, he married Mae Kline in Kansas City. She died in 1984. Then he married Cynthia A. Thomas on March 17, 1986, in Gallatin. She survives of the home.
Mr. Doyle also was preceded in death by his parents, Michael R. and Pearl; and two sisters, Madonna M. Temple and Monta Bryant.
Additional survivors: a nephew and foster child, Gerald W. Temple, Breckenridge, Mo.; a stepson, Jim Pierce, Gallatin; a stepdaughter, Constance L. Thomas, Gallatin; seven stepgrandchildren; and 11 step great-grandchildren.
Service: 1:30 p.m. Friday, Bram Funeral Home, Gallatin. Burial: Rose Hill Cemetery, Breckenridge. Visitation: after 9 a.m. Thursday, at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday. Esther Fox
1909-1999
PARKVILLE, Mo. -- Esther Fox, 90, Parkville, in Platte County, Mo., died Sunday, July 4, 1999, at her home.
Born in Lincoln, Neb., on March 11, 1909, Mrs. Fox had lived in Caldwell, Kan., and North Kansas City, Mo., before moving to Parkville in 1932.
A homemaker, she was a member of Moore's Extension Club in Platte City and was a democratic committeewoman for Waldron, Mo.
Mrs. Fox was preceded in death by her husband, Lee H. Fox, in 1995; three brothers, Art, Victor and John Murdock; and three sisters, Nellie Boylans, Dorothy Meyer and Clara Murdock.
Surviving: a sister, Alice Culop, Wichtia, Kan.
Service: 1 p.m. today, Rollins Funeral Home, Platte City, Mo. Burial: Platte City Cemetery.

Gene Furlong
1928-1999
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Gene Furlong, 71, Colorado Springs, formerly of St. Joseph and Trenton, Mo., died Saturday, July 3, 1999, at a Colorado Springs hospice.
Mr. Furlong owned and operated the Furlong Men's Clothing Store, Trenton, and three Thomas Organ Studios in the Kansas City area. He also had worked for the State of Missouri Employment Office, St. Joseph, and a Fashion Bar in Colorado.
He was born Jan. 30, 1928, in Trenton.
On March 1, 1973, he married his second wife, Betty Hess, in Trenton. She survives of the home.
Mr. Furlong was preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara; his parents, Mike and May; and a brother, Stanley.
Surviving: a daughter, Theresa Cordua, South Sherman, Calif.; two sons, Dennis, San Jose, Calif., and David, Reno, Nev.; four stepsons, Danual Riddle, Michigan, David Riddle, Trenton, George Riddle, Douglas, Mass., and Richard Riddle, Colorado Springs; six grandchildren; 10 stepgrandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Service: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Resthaven Mortuary, Trenton. Burial: Haseville Cemetery, east of Laredo, Mo. Family visitation: 7 to 8 tonight at the mortuary.

Lorene Hodges
1915-1999
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Lorene "Do" (Crawford) Hodges, 84, Colorado Springs, formerly of St. Joseph, died Friday, July 2, 1999, at her residence.
Mrs. Hodges had been employed by the St. Joseph Credit Bureau in St. Joseph. She also had owned and operated the Maytag Westside Laundromat of Colorado Springs.
Born on Jan. 24, 1915, she moved from St. Joseph to Colorado Springs 36 years ago.
Mrs. Hodges was a former member of the Woodson Chapel Christian Church and Shady Beach Rebecca Lodge, both of St. Joseph.
On May 30, 1932, she married Ray Hodges. He survives of the home.
Mrs. Hodges was preceded in death by a daughter, Shirley Shewmaker; and her parents, James and Avice Crawford.
Additional survivors: a daughter, Carla Heiser, Colorado Springs; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
Service: 1 p.m. today, Shrine of Remembrance Funeral Home, Colorado Springs. Burial: Woodland Park Cemetery, Colorado Springs.

Franklin D. Bright
1927-1999
SALEM, Neb. -- Franklin D. "Red'' Bright, 72, Salem, died Wednesday, July 7, 1999, at a hospital in Lincoln, Neb.
Mr. Bright had owned and operated a backhoe business since 1971, and other equipment business. He also had operated a mechanical shop in Falls City and Verdon, Neb.
Born in Siloam Springs, Ark., on July 6, 1927, he moved with his parents as a child to Shubert, Neb., and then Dawson, Neb.
On Jan. 19, 1949, he married Donna B. Ackerman in Pawnee City, Neb. They made their home near Shubert for two years before moving to Humboldt, Neb., where they lived for five years. The Brights moved to Verdon in 1956 and Salem in 1994. She survives in a health-care center in Falls City.
Mr. Bright was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Janice M.; his parents, Charles and Florence; a brother, John; and two half sisters, Edith McKinney and Bernice Stringfield.
Additional survivors: Mildred White of the home; a son, Mark, Milford, Neb.; a daughter, Paula Blevins, Savannah, Mo.; a brother, Myron, Humboldt; a sister, Rachel Kunze, Humboldt; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Service: 10 a.m. Saturday, Dorr Funeral Home, Falls City. Burial: Verdon Cemetery. Family visitation: 7 to 8 tonight, at the funeral home.
