David Lee Hostetter, age 69, of Waverly, Missouri, passed away Monday, March 21, 2005 at his home.
He was born July 21, 1935 in Waverly, Missouri, the son of Manuel and Sara Jane Markley Hostetter. He attended schools at Waverly and Grand Pass, Missouri.
On March 24, 1974 he married Priscilla M. Smith in Marshall, Missouri. She survives at the home. David had worked in construction and as a meat cutter.
He is also survived by five children, Pamela J. Wells, Bosworth, Missouri, James David Hostetter, Coloma, Missouri, Billy H. Hostetter, Marshall, Missouri, Darcy D. Jones, Sedalia, Missouri and P. J. Riggins, Columbia, Missouri; one step-son, Gale Hardwick, Marshall, Missouri; two brothers, Jack Hostetter and Robert Hostetter both of Waverly, Missouri; three sisters, Helen McQuillian, Festus, Missouri, June Webb, Ludlow, Missouri and Judy Hostetter, Marshall, Missouri; twelve grandchildren and one great grandchild.
His parents, one brother, Leroy Hostetter and one sister, Carolyn Jones, preceded him in death.
Funeral services were at 3:00 p.m., Thursday, March 24, 2005 at Gibson Funeral Home, Waverly, Missouri, with Reverend Jerry Curry officiating. Burial will be in Waverly Cemetery, Waverly, Missouri.
Visitation was from 7-8:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 23, 2005 at the funeral home.

Anna Elizabeth Newsom, age 90, of Brunswick, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, March 22, 2005 at the Carroll House Nursing Home in Carrollton, Missouri. She was born on January 5, 1915 in Boonville, Missouri, the daughter of Charles Frederick and Elizabeth Hostenbach Wassmann.
She was married to Sidney Council Newsom on May 2, 1937 at the Methodist Church in Dalton, Missouri. He preceded her in death on March 24, 1980.
Ann graduated from Pilot Grove High School and received her teaching certification from Warrensburg State Teacher's College. In the late 1930's she taught school at the Riverside Country School in Dalton, Missouri; and later worked at Hill's Grocery Store in Brunswick, Missouri during the 1960's. She worked as a nurse in Dr. Stuart's office in Brunswick, Missouri from 1968 until her retirement in 1983.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Brunswick, Missouri and when able, was involved in many church functions serving as a Sunday school teacher and Bible School teacher, as well as being an active member of the United Methodist Women's Organization, and The Friendship Wheel Club.
She was also a member of the Modern Home Builders Extension club, the Order of the Eastern Star Breakfast Club, and the Order of Eastern Star Warren Chapter where she had received her 50-year membership pin.
Ann was best remembered for her love of flowers, gardening, and the outdoors. She and her late husband, Sidney, tended to the flower beds around town for many years including the bed in front of Moser's Cafe', the downtown flower boxes, and the flower beds around the Methodist Church. She shared generously with many the produce from her gardens and the knowledge and skills she possessed in how to raise plants.
Survivors include on son, Robert Newsom and Eva, Sandy, Utah; one daughter, Mary Jane (Jannie) Saltsgaver and husband Doug, Carrollton, Missouri; one daughter-in-law, JoEllen Newsom, Brunswick, Missouri and one brother, Charles Vest and wife Betty, Auxvasse, Missouri; six grandchildren, Julie O'Neill and husband Brian, Olathe, Kansas, Rick Saltsgaver and wife Cindy, Macon, Missouri, Ron Saltsgaver and wife Emily, Aurora, Missouri, Rusty Saltsgaver and wife Shelbi, Otterville, Missouri, Greg Newsom and wife Cindy, Poulsbo, Washington, Jamie Zebert and husband Jason, Tampa, Florida; one step-granddaughter, Michael Ann Hale and husband Chriss, Lee's Summit, Missouri; five great grandchildren, two step great grandchildren and several nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Ella May Akers; one brother, George Wassmann, two infant daughters, and four stepbrothers. One son, Charles Herbert Newsom who passed away November 13, 1994 and one infant grandson, Charles Douglas Newsom, also preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday, March 25, 2005 at the United Methodist Church in Brunswick, Missouri with Reverend Phyllis Anderson and Reverend Lanny Lybarger officiating. Burial will be in Elliott Grove Cemetery, Brunswick, Missouri.
Visitation will be from 6:30-8:00 p.m., Thursday, March 24, 2005 at Gibson Funeral Home, Brunswick, Missouri.

Verlea Dickinson, age 85, of Carrollton, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, March 23, 2005 at the Carroll County Memorial Hospital.
Verlea was born on July 29, 1919, the daughter of Arthur and Minnie (Kemble) Bachtel, near Bosworth, Missouri. They moved to the Tina area a little later, where she graduated from Tina High School.
On April 13, 1942, she was married to Harold Dickinson. He preceded her in death in 1993. They were married for fifty-one years.
Verlea, also known as Meme by her grandchildren and friends, was an active member of the Carrollton United Methodist Church, where she served as a Sunday school teacher for thirteen years. She was also a Girl Scout leader with the same group from Brownie Scouts to Senior Scouts and a 4-H leader. She was a member of the Victory Club. Her hobbies were sewing for her grandchildren and cooking Sunday dinner after all went to church. She had a love for music.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Dennis Pink, Carrollton, two granddaughters, Melissa and Christie Pink, St. Louis, Missouri, whom she loved dearly and one precious great-grandson, Adam Boatman. Also surviving her are one niece and her husband, Peggy and Jack Walsh of Grandview, Missouri, two nephews and their wives, Donald and Adele Barnett of Carrollton, Missouri and Art and Val Forsythe of Sarasota, Florida, one great-nephew and his wife, Bruce and Sarah Barnett of Marthasville, Missouri, one great-niece and her husband, Martha and Barry Ginsburg of St. Louis, Missouri, cousins and a host of friends.
Two sisters, Irene Forsythe and Marie Oerding, one brother, Roy Bachtel, her parents and an infant son also preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be held at the United Methodist Church in Carrollton, Missouri with the Reverend Sandra Crater officiating on Saturday, March 26, 2005 at 1:30 p.m. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 25, 2005 from 6-9:00 p.m. Burial will be at the Van Horn Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Carrollton United Methodist Church in memory of Verlea. They may be left at or mailed to Gibson Funeral Home, 201 S. Main, Carrollton MO 64633.

Lula Marie Gregg, age 90, of Carrollton, Missouri, passed away Thursday, March 24, 2005 at Carroll County Memorial Hospital, Carrollton, Missouri.
She was born January 18, 1915 in Leslie Township, Missouri, the daughter of William Ervin and Anna Stipes Marple. She attended Isom Grade School.
On December 12, 1931 she was married to Floyd Lee Gregg in Carrollton, Missouri. He preceded her in death on January 13, 2005. She was a loving wife and mother. Marie was a member of the Mandeville Methodist Church.
She is survived by eleven children; William D. Gregg and wife Martha, Carrollton, Missouri, Anna Lee Bahr and husband Fred, Carrollton, Missouri, Shirley Edwards and husband Leonard, McPherson, Kansas, Wade Gregg and wife Janice, Barnard, Kansas, Arnold Gregg and wife Judy, Bosworth, Missouri, Bobby Gregg and wife Janie, Bogard, Missouri, Jackie Gregg and wife Gayle, Carrollton, Missouri, Russell Gregg and wife Dianne, Oak Grove, Missouri, Sally Hanavan and husband John, New Castle, Indiana, Dorothy Allnutt and husband Randall, Trenton, Missouri and Esther Gregg, Carrollton, Missouri; five sisters, Ollie Dodson, Chillicothe, Missouri, Mildred Dodson, Higginsville, Missouri, Mary Frances Henry, Bogard, Missouri, Helen Tucker, Richmond, Missouri, Dorothy Jones, Cottage Hill, Illinois and one brother, William Marple, Carrollton, Missouri; nineteen grandchildren; twenty-nine great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter and several nieces and nephews.
Her parents and one granddaughter, Tamara Faye Gregg, also preceded Marie in death.
Funeral services were at 11:00 a.m., Monday, March 28, 2005 at Gibson Funeral Home, Carrollton, Missouri, with Pastor Jeff Maxwell officiating. Burial was in Ebenezer Cemetery, Bogard, Missouri.
Visitation was from 7-8:00 p.m., Sunday, March 27, 2005 at Gibson Funeral Home, Carrollton, Missouri.

Mrs. Dixie Ruth Moren Korslund of Carrollton, Missouri died April 2, 2004 at Carroll County Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Korslund was born September 9, 1923 in Breckenridge, Missouri, the daughter of Leo and Tracy Maddux Moren. She was married to Otis C. Korslund on September 3, 1960. Her husband preceded her in death November 29, 1985.
She moved with her parents to Chillicothe, Missouri in 1925. She was a graduate of Chillicothe High School and Chillicothe Business College. She was baptized into the First Christian Church in Chillicothe and attended the Immanuel Lutheran Church of Carrollton following her marriage to Mr. Korslund.
Survivors include a step-daughter, Betty Sherrill, a son-in-law, R. D. Sherrill and grandson, Jonathan Sherrill and several cousins.
Graveside services will be at 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 6, 2005 at Edgewood Cemetery, Chillicothe, Missouri, with Pastor Eric Swyres officiating.
The body will lie in state at Gibson Funeral Home, Carrollton, Missouri on Wednesday from 8:00 a.m. until 1:45 p.m.

Virginia L. Sides, 70, of Carrollton, Missouri, passed away Saturday, April 2, 2005, at the Mar-Saline Manor, Marshall, Missouri.
Virginia was born May 27, 1934 in Millersville, Missouri; the daughter of Cornelius and Sara Ellen Welker Hahn.
She received her education from Jackson Grade and High School.
On September 17, 1954 Virginia was married to Larry Dean Sides in Burfordsville, Missouri; he preceded her in death on January 23, 1999.
Virginia was a member of the First Baptist Church, Carrollton, Missouri and the First Baptist Church Women's Quilting Group and the Carroll County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.
Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Gregory K. and Pam Sides, Carrollton, Missouri; one daughter and son-in-law, Robyn L. and Jimmie Spangler, Carrollton, Missouri; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one brother, Johnny Hahn, Jackson, Missouri; and two sisters, Wilma Summers and Lela Hutson, Jackson, Missouri.
Graveside services were held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, April 4, 2005, at the Carroll Memory Gardens, Carrollton, Missouri, with the Reverend Jeff Maxwell officiating.

Caltha C. Engelking, age 92, of Carrollton, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, April 5, 2005 in Columbia, Missouri.
Caltha Caroline (Addison) Engelking was born April 14, 1912, the daughter of Robert and Carrie Jones Addison. She grew up in Carroll County and attended several of the rural schools. In 1935, she was married to Herman Engelking. They made their home in the Carrollton area for most of their married life. He preceded her in death in 1977.
She is survived by two daughters Wanda Calfee and husband Gary, Columbia, Missouri, and Carolyn Ann Moe and husband Roger, Sedona, Arizona; three grandchildren, Julie Calfee, Columbia, Missouri, Fred Langan and wife Sophia, Moreno Valley, California, Michael Langan and wife Lori, Cornville, Arizona; four great grandchildren, Jonathan, Jessica, Dylan and Bradley Langan and one sister, Mrs. Harold Ahnefeld (Inez), Carrollton, Missouri.
Caltha was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Edna Gallagher, Sylvia Scholle; brothers, Ed, Muriel, Nova and Oty.
She was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Carrollton, Missouri.
Graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m., Friday, April 8, 2005, at Oak Hill Cemetery, Carrollton, Missouri, with Pastor Eric Swyres officiating.
Visitation will be from 12:30 - 1:45 p.m., on Friday, prior to the service, at Gibson Funeral Home, Carrollton, Missouri.

Ricky Allen Clayton, 46, passed away Wednesday, April 6, 2005 at Liberty Hospital.
Mr. Clayton was born September 14, 1958 in Carrollton, Missouri as the oldest son of Mary Clayton. He was a 1977 graduate of Norborne High School. He served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged on September 6, 1988. He was employed by Porter Lumber Company in Kearney, Missouri and was a member of the First Christian Church in Polo, Missouri.
Survivors include his former wife, Starr Wolf, a daughter, Ryan Janette Clayton, a stepson, Nicolas Wolf, and a granddaughter, Daja Andrea Clayton of Kansas City, Missouri; his mother, Mary Clayton, of Norborne, Missouri; two sisters, Joyce Clayton, of Kansas City, Missouri and Leigh Ann Clayton, of Columbia, Missouri; five brothers, Kenneth (Toby) Clayton of Richmond, Missouri, Douglas Clayton and wife, Tracey, of Columbia, Missouri, John Clayton of Warrensburg, Missouri, Brian Clayton and wife, Mitzi, of Columbia, Missouri, and Leroy Clayton of Cameron, Missouri; one aunt, Laura McClair of Norborne, Missouri; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins; and his second family and friends, Mr. and Mrs. John Schmid and children of Excelsior Springs, Missouri.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m., on Saturday, April 9, 2005 at Gibson Funeral Home, Norborne, Missouri with Pastor William Purcell officiating. Burial will be in Stemple Cemetery, Norborne, Missouri.
Mr. Clayton will lie in state at the funeral home in Norborne on Friday, April 8, 2005 from 1:00-8:00 p.m., and on Saturday from 8:00 a.m. until service time.

Eldon Ackerman, age 80, of Carrollton, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, April 6, 2005 at Carroll House, Carrollton, Missouri.
He was born February 6, 1925 in Carroll County, Missouri, the son of August F. and Emma Rowold Ackerman. He graduated from Carrollton High School in 1942.
On October 25, 1945, Eldon married Shirley E. McCraw in Kansas City, Missouri. She survives at the home.
Eldon was a farmer and served in the Air Force during World War II with the 15th A.F. B17 as a Radio Operator in Fogia, Italy. He was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Carrollton, Missouri; and he served as Carroll County Western Commissioner for fourteen years; was a charter member of the Carrollton Country Club, a member of the Carrollton Historical Society, Disabled American Veterans and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He had resided in Richmond and Norborne before coming to the Carrollton area.
In addition to his wife, Shirley, Eldon is also survived by two sons, Gary Wayne Ackerman, Edgerton, Missouri, Richard Leland Ackerman and wife Connie, Blue Springs, Missouri; two sisters, Evelyn Wiechert, Albuquerque, New Mexico, Eleanor Valbracht, Brookfield, Missouri; five grandchildren, Trent A. Ackerman, Kyle W. Ackerman, Brandon W. Ackerman, Dallas N. Ackerman and Derick L. Ackerman; four great grandchildren, Peyton G. Ackerman, Jackson W. Ackerman, Blake W. Ackerman and Spencer A. Ackerman; and several nieces and nephews.
Eldon was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Mildred Ackerman McFall and one brother, Wayne Ackerman.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 9, 2005 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Carrollton, Missouri, with Pastor Eric Swyres officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Carrollton, Missouri with Military graveside services.
Mr. Ackerman will lie in state on Friday, April 8, 2005 at Gibson Funeral Home, Carrollton, Missouri, from 1:00-5:00 p.m.

Audrey I. Cook Hall Newell, 87, of Lee's Summit, MO and formerly of Brunswick, MO died as the result of an automobile accident at Kansas City, MO on Thursday, April 7, 2005. Funeral services were held at the Gibson Funeral Home in Brunswick, MO on Monday, April 11, 2005 at 10:30 A.M. Reverend Lanny Lybarger officiated. Burial was in the Brunswick City Cemetery. Pallbearers were Mark and Beau McAdams, Bill and Jay Binkley, Dennis Bierman, Christopher Neidigh and Jim Dietrich.
She was born on August 26, 1917 at Brunswick, MO the daughter of Daniel and Nancy Furrell Cook. She had worked for the S & R Sporting Goods Company in Kansas City, MO for 25 years. She loved to play the piano and the organ and she was a member of the Fraternal Order Of The Eagles at Independence, MO. She is survived by two sons, Sidney and Carol Hall Of Wiapahu, HI, Stanley and Wanda Hall of Raytown, MO, one sister, Catherine Carson of Kansas City, MO and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister and three brothers.

George William Oldvader, 89, of Brunswick, Mo died at his home on Friday, April 8, 2005. George was born on April 1, 1916 at Dalton, MO the son of F.H. and Annie Fay Hackley Oldvader. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and his armored tank division was one of the first to land on Normandy when the Allies invaded France against Germany in June of 1944. George had been a lifelong farmer. He was a member of the Brunswick Baptist Church, the American Legion Rucker-McAllister Post # 7 of Brunswick, MO and he was a 50 year member of the Warren Masonic Lodge #74. He is survived by one sister, Agnes Wolf Stahl of Keytesville, MO; two brothers, Roy Lee Oldvader of Brunswick, MO and Norris Wayne Oldvader of Raytown, MO and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Marie Blunk and Mildred Stahl; one infant brother and one infant sister.

Edward Wayne Brooke, 52, of Norborne, Missouri, passed away Saturday, April 9, 2005 at his home.
Ed was born September 1, 1952 in Norborne, Missouri, the son of Clarence and Marjorie Hamilton Brooke. He graduated from Norborne High School where he played football.
On December 5, 1992 he was married to Vicki Eiker at the Wakenda Baptist Church. He followed the occupation of farming and had lived in the Norborne area his entire life. Ed served on the Norborne Fire Board, the Norborne Drainage Board, and was President of the Eastside Hunting Club.
Survivors include one step-son, Daniel R. Benedict, Tulsa, Oklahoma and one step-daughter, Dana R. Hagen, Olathe, Kansas; two brothers, Mike Brooke, Norborne, Missouri and Martin Brooke, Hardin, Missouri; three sisters, Wanda Weidner, Tina, Missouri, Barb Cunningham, Norborne, Missouri and Martha Dickson, Carrollton, Missouri; five step-grandchildren, Bethany Hagen, Brandon Price, Elizabeth Hagen, Blake Benedict, and Holli Benedict.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Walter Brooke.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, April 12, 2005 at the First Baptist Church in Norborne, Missouri, with Reverend M. R. Hamilton officiating. Burial will be in Fairhaven Cemetery, Norborne, Missouri.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m., Monday, April 11, 2005 at the Gibson Funeral Home in Norborne, Missouri.

Scovern B. Graham, age 81, of Carrollton, Missouri, passed away Saturday, April 9, 2005 at Bothwell Hospital, Sedalia, Missouri.
Scovern was born November 9, 1923 in Braymer, Missouri, the son of Harry and Stella Leakey Graham. He had been a resident of Golden Acres Nursing Home in Stover, Missouri.
He is survived by one sister, Mary Nickel, Independence, Missouri, five nephews and several great and great great nieces and nephews.
Scovern was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Jack Graham.
Graveside services are at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 12, 2005 at Braden Cemetery, Coloma, Missouri, with Pastor Jeff Maxwell officiating.
The body will lie in state on Tuesday at Gibson Funeral Home, Carrollton, Missouri, from 8:00 a.m. until service time.

Lillie Ruth Randolph, age 85, of Carrollton, Missouri, passed away Friday, April 15, 2005 at Carroll County Memorial Hospital, Carrollton, Missouri.
She was born April 1, 1920 in Greenville, Missouri, the daughter of Phillip and Edna Buckingham Joplin. She graduated from Greenville High School and Baptist Teacher's College in Bolivar, Missouri.
On June 21, 1942, she married Houston Max Randolph in St. Louis, Missouri. He preceded her in death on January 31, 1983.
Ruth taught school at Fremont and Greenville Schools. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Carrollton, Missouri.
Ruth is survived by four children; Sandra Anderson and husband Ray, South Elgin, Illinois, Roberta Kimes and husband Gary, Bonita Springs, Florida, Houston Max Randolph, Jr. and wife Marla, Carrollton, Missouri and David S. Randolph and wife Cindy, Carrollton, Missouri; seven brothers and sisters, James Joplin, Charles Orin Joplin and Bob Joplin, all of Ellsinore, Missouri, Mary Ellen Karshall, Orland Park, Illinois, Irene Gravatt and husband Vernon, Arlington, Texas, Shirley Harkins and husband John, Benziona, Michigan and Ester Sartin and husband Lyle, Camas, Washington; twelve grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Ruth was also preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Wayne and Howard.
Funeral services were at 11:00 a.m., Monday, April 18, 2005 at the First Baptist Church in Carrollton, with Pastor Jeff Maxwell officiating. Burial was in Carroll Memory Gardens, Carrollton, Missouri.
Visitation was from 10-10:45 a.m. at the church prior to the service.
