JOHN OLIVER WALKER
John Oliver Walker, 78, El Dorado Springs, passed away on March 22, 2003, at St. John's Regional Health Center in Springfield.
John was born in Parsons, KS, on July 1, 1924, the son of J.S. Walker and Shirley California in the late 20's. They settled in the Santa Ana area where Ester attended elementary and high school.
During a family vacation trip to the Midwest, Ester became acquainted with Eugene Woods. They were united in marriage on Feb. 3, 1939. To this union, four children were born.
After moving from Arizona and later to Kansas, Gene and Ester moved back to Nevada to be closer to her son, James, and his family. Ester eventually moved to the Springfield, NE, area to be near her daughter, Mary's, family.
Ester enjoyed many different pursuits including raising flowers, collecting stamps, collecting commemorative spoons, researching family genealogy and studying the Bible. She loved growing flowers, herbs and other plants, always looking for new varieties. Ester read the Bible cover to cover many times and collected many different versions and translations of the Bible. One of her favorite songs was “Jesus Loves Me.” Ever since any of her children can remember, she wore a necklace with a mustard seed in it, representing “faith as a mustard seed.”
Ester was very witty throughout her life, even entertaining the nurses at the hospital and skilled nursing facility during the last few weeks of her life.
She enjoyed and was proud of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include her three children - James Nevada, Edward Carter - El Dorado Springs; and grandchildren - Harry Ross, Daryl Huffstedtler, Tony Buckles, Deborah Cash, Mary Yeazell, Sherry Kuhn, Diana Helton, Charlotte Huffstedtler and Charlene Huffstedtler.
