Eunice Faye Wheat, daughter of the late Drew and Clara (Wake) Smith, was passed away on Oct. 17, 2008 at her son’s residence in Mt. Pleasant, Ark., following a long illness. She was 80 years, 9 months, and 26 days of age.
Eunice grew up and attended schools in Douglas and Howell counties in Missouri and was united in marriage to James Orus Wheat on July 29, 1944 in West Plains.
They made their home in the Vanzant community. Two sons were death on Jan. 25, 2007.
Eunice took great pride in her home and flowers. She also loved to metal detect and was an avid rock collector.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in Cemetery under the direction of the Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home.
Lela Bell Power, 94

Lela Bell Power, of Ava, born in Briggs, Okla., to Hardy Shanks and Grace (Pitcock) Shanks on April 14, 1914. She was married to Earl Johnson Sr., of Branson West, Mo., and Gracie, death by her husband, her parents, three brothers, Auburn Shanks, Gordon Shanks and Otta Shanks; one sister, Loma Hanaford; and two grandsons, Erwin Johnson and Charles Johnson.
She is survived by one brother, Faye Shanks, of Springfield; four grandsons, Steve Johnson and his wife Suzanne, Earl Johnson Jr. and his wife Shari, Greg Lawrence and his wife Diann, David Lawrence and his wife Barbara, and one granddaughter, Pamela Southern and her husband Garry. She was the proud great-grandmother to Amber Clark, Crystal Johnson, Lucas Johnson, Julia Johnson, Levi Johnson, Robby Johnson, Michael Johnson, Joshua Lawrence, Kara Lawrence, Bradley Lawrence, Jennifer Lawrence and Brandon Southern. Her great-great-grandchildren are Tyler Kesky and Brenden Clark. She is also survived by lots of nieces and nephews.
Lela lived most of her life in Ozark and Douglas counties. She spent the last year in the care of Earl and Annabelle in their home in Branson West. She loved working in the yard, shopping, playing games with her grandchildren, watching golf on television and listening to Alan Jackson’s music.
The family would like to thank Hospice of St. John’s Health Care for their excellent care of Mrs. Powers. They would also like to thank their friends for their expressions of sympathy and for the food, cards and flowers.
Funeral services for Lela Bell Power were held Tuesday Nov. 18, at 10 a.m. in Clinkingbeard chapel with burial in the Ava born at Pansy, Mo., to Elias and Cassie (Nelson) Stillings.
She was united in marriage to Carl Swearengin of Elkhead, Mo., on Feb. 6, 1940 and to this union was death by her husband, Carl; a daughter, Bonita Hampton; a son-in-law, Dennis Schnieder; her parents; five sisters; and two brothers.
Visitation was held at Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, on Tuesday, Nov. 25, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Services were at Eastern Gate Baptist Church, Wednesday, Nov. 26, at 10 a.m. Burial followed at Stillings born Aug. 24, 1927 in Wasola, Missouri and departed this life Nov. 21, 2008 at the age of 81.
On Dec. 4, 1945 Ora and Ervin H. Leschinsky were united in marriage in Wasola, Missouri. Ora and Ervin were blessed with two sons.
She was death by her parents, her husband, Ervin, one brother-in-law, Freeman Miller, and one niece, Yvonne Terry.
She is survived by her two sons and their spouses, Kindrick Lee and Mary Leschinsky, Wasola, and Robert Clay and Sherry, Irmo, S.C.; two granddaughters, Michelle Horton and Ben, Springfield, Mo., and Martina Leschinsky, Bonaire, Ga.; two great-grandchildren, Megan Lee and Shane Kindrick Horton; one sister, Emily Miller, Independence, Mo.; two nephews, Dr. Burney Miller, Odessa Mo., and Thomas Miller, Independence, Mo.; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 26, in the Oak Grove General Baptist Church, Wasola, with the Revs. Dwain Moore, Ron Felker and Charles McFarland officiating.
Cemetery. Visitation was Tuesday, 6 to 8 p.m., in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, with Order of the Eastern Star service conducted by Ava Chapter #47. Memorials may be made to Oak Grove General Baptist Church, Community Hospice or to the donors choice of charity.
Jim Merchant, 62

Jim "Jimmy" Merchant, 62, born July 4, 1928 in Brown Branch, Mo., and departed this life Nov. 29, 2008 at the age of 80 years. She is the daughter of William Whittaker and Maria Stamp Whittaker.
Hazel was a resident of the Seymour area for the past 16 years moving here from Forsyth. She spent all of her life in the Ava, Forsyth, and Brown Branch area. Hazel was employed as a nurses aide. She loved quilting, reading, canning fruits and vegetables.
In 1949 Hazel and George W. Huffman were united in marriage in Mtn. Home, Ark.
Hazel and George were blessed with three children.
Hazel was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Samuel Huffman and a great-grandson.
Her survivors include two daughters, Margaret E. Huffman, Gatewood, Mo., and Mary and James Tate, Ava, Mo.; two grandchildren, Gloria Huffman and Enola Anderson; two great-grandsons; one brother, Bill Whitaker, Ava, Mo.; and a host of other friends and relatives.
