Dr. Leonard C. Douglas, 77

Dr. Leonard Carl Douglas, 77, was passed away Thursday, April 28, 2005, in St. John's Hospital, Springfield.
Leonard and Elda Faye Sell were united in marriage on March 5, 1950, in Ava. They spent 55 wonderful years working together and most of all being each other's best friend.
Leonard began work with Missouri Cooperative Extension in 1949. He served in field positions, ranging from assistant county Extension agent to Extension district director until 1967, when he was appointed assistant dean of Extension, University of Missouri-Columbia.
In 1968, Leonard became associate dean of Extension, serving in that capacity until 1975 when he was appointed dean of Extension. The University of Missouri-Columbia changed that title to vice provost of Extension in 1979. He became acting director of Cooperative Extension in 1979, and was appointed director the following year, while also retaining his position as vice provost.
His University of Missouri service was interrupted twice for positions in private businesses and for study at Cornell University, where he earned a doctorate degree in education administration in 1966.
A native of Oregon County, Leonard holds two degrees from the University of Missouri-Columbia: a bachelor of science in agriculture and a master of science in Extension education. After his retirement from the University of Missouri in 1985, Leonard and Elda moved to their farm in Christian County to raise alfalfa hay.
He was preceded in Cemetery.

Earl Waldo Walker, 89

Earl Waldo Walker, age 89, of Branson, formerly of Ava, born March 22, 1916, in Chadwick, the son of Will and Mae (Alcorn) Walker. He married Norma Jean “Pat” Childers who preceded him in death by two sons, Larry Walker and Stanley Walker.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday in Adams Funeral Home, Ozark, with the Revs. Ben DeWitt, Gary Hall, and Jim Campbell officiating. Burial followed in Chadwick born July 27, 1937, in Jamaica, N.Y., in Queens County, and death by her parents.
Her survivors include one sister, Hortense Bokor Smith, of Costa Mesa, Calif.; nieces, Diane Sargisian and Julie Fier: nephews, David Bokor and Daniel Shanken; cousin Robert Cohn; dearest friends, Joyce and Gordon Watson and their family; and many other friends.
Graveside services were Thursday, May 26 at 11 a.m., at Whites Creek passed away peacefully at 9:10 a.m., Saturday, New Year's Day, 2005, in Heart of the Ozarks Healthcare Center of Ava. Harold was death by his parents, one brother, Orville Howerton, and a brother-in-law, Royce Adkisson. He is survived by his loving wife Dorothy; one daughter, Jamie Adams, and husband Mark of Chariton, Iowa; two sisters, Peggy Adkisson, of Jefferson City, and Kathleen Wallace, and husband Rex, Theodosia; three grandchildren, Janelle, Craig and Jordan; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and numerous caring friends. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 4, in Barnes Funeral Home, Ava, with the Rev. John Haskins and Rev. Marvin Loftin officiating. Burial followed in the Thornfield Cemetery, care of Barnes Family Funeral Home, P.O. Box 65, Ava, MO 65608.
William “Bill” Walter Woolman, 87

William “Bill” Walter Woolman, son of Charlie and Lydia (Brown) Woolman, was death by his parents; one grandson, William L. Woolman; three brothers, Earl, Clifford and Elwood Woolman; two sisters, Eula Dyer and Rebecca Sargent; and a great-great-grandchild, Kole Benton Hunter.
Bill is survived by his wife, Mae, of the home; three sons, Paul and wife, Abby Woolman, of Edinburg, Texas, Clifford and wife, Wanda Woolman, of Ava, and Billy Woolman, of Lake Spring, and friend, Christine Gooden, of Salem; three daughters, June and husband Billy Case, Lecoma, Mo., Kathie and husband, Dan Forth, Columbia, Betty and husband, Robert Sprick, Hartville; a special niece, Patricia Diana Woolman; 27 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; 17 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Bill went to be with his Lord in his home surrounded by his loving wife and children.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 21, in the Yates Cemetery with full military honors.
Services are under the direction of Craig-Hurtt-Bradley Funeral Home.
Visitation will be held Friday, July 1, from 7 to 8 p.m., in the funeral home.
Shirley Goodnight, 85

Shirley Goodnight, age 85, of Sapulpa, Okla., born July 24, 1919, in Lutie, Mo., the daughter of Jesse and Mary (Absher) Simpson. On July 19, 1937, in Pond Fork, Mo., she was united in marriage to Bernie Goodnight, who preceded her in death by her parents, two brothers, one grandson and one granddaughter.
She is survived by two sons, Billie Joe Goodnight, and his wife, Cathy, of Sapulpa, Okla., and Harold Junior Goodnight, and his friend, Cathy, of Ava; three daughters, Claudie Hartsell, and her husband, Olen Dewitt, of Broken Arrow, Okla., Barbara Ingram, and her husband, Mark, of Wagoner, Okla., and Sharon Sue Benson, of Seligman, Mo.; one brother, Cleo Simpson, and his wife, Vickie, of Ridgefield, Wash.; six sisters, Goldie Hart, of Sedalia, Mo., Irene Humbyrd, of Woodland, Wash., Lorene Hayes, of Woodland, Wash., Clella Record, and her husband, Clarence, of Longview, Wash., Litha Hayden, and her husband, Ed, of Golden Dale, Wash., and Bertha Kilkelly, of Woodland, Wash., 14 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and eight great great-grandchildren.
Shirley received her education in Thornfield, Mo. She resided in Springdale, Ark. several years, where she was employed with the Wilson Factory. She moved to Sapulpa, Okla. three years ago to make her home.
Shirley loved bluegrass and gospel music. Some of her favorite past times were sewing, camping and traveling. Her greatest joy in life was being involved with her family.
Graveside services were held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, July 5, in Thornfield Cemetery, Thornfield, Mo., under the direction of Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville, Mo.
