Betty Glass

Graveside services for Betty Belle Glass, Springfield, formerly of Kennett, will be conducted Saturday, December 1, at 10:00 a.m. at the Oak Ridge cemetery, Kennett, with her son, the Rev. James L. Glass officiating.

The daughter of the late Judge James V. Billings and Leora Sapp Billings, she was born February 13, 1918, in Kennett. She was married to the late Charles L. Glass. Mrs. Glass was retired from the County Clerks‚ Office, Greene County, where she worked for 33 years. She died Sunday, November 18, at the age of 84.

Survivors include her son James L. Glass, San Diego, California and two grandchildren Kathryn Glass of Burbank, California and David Glass of Portland, Oregon.

The family requests that memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Kennett."

Maxine Henry

Maxine Henry, 78, of Route 2, Steele, Mo., died Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2001, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Blytheville, Ark.

Born Monday, July 9, 1923, in the Samford Community in Missouri, daughter of the late Joe I. and Hazel Edwards Samford, she was a homemaker and member of the Samford Church of Christ.

She married Albert Lewis "Bert" Henry who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Frances Miller.

Survivors include one son, Howard Henry and his wife, Cheryl, of Steele; two brothers, Joe Edward Samford and Hugh Samford, both of Steele; one sister, Lucille Grindstaff of Fort Payne, Ala.; a granddaughter, Jennifer Creecy of Sikeston and a grandson, Justin Henry of Steele.

Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 24, in the Samford Church of Christ with Steve Harris officiating.

Burial was in Pemiscot Memorial Gardens cemetery at Caruthersville under direction of Bradshaw Funeral Home of Steele.

Lula Macon

Lula Macon, 93, of Senath, Mo., died Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2001, at the Senath Nursing Home.

Born Aug. 1, 1908 in Bloomfield, Mo. she was the daughter of the late John Henry and Dora Champion Lemons.

On Oct. 10, 1929 near Senath, she married Leo Macom.

Survivors include two grandchildren, Julie Dahlhauser of Brownsville, Tenn. and Allan Browning of New Orleans, La.; three great-grandchildren, Hart, Hilarie and John Dahlhauser all of Brownsville and one son-in-law, Morris Browning of Senath.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathy Browning, two brothers, George and Weldon Lemons and three sisters, Beulah Sikes, Grace Horn and Carrie Lucille Lemons.

Funeral Services were at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 24, in the First United Methodist Church in Senath with the Rev. Gene West officiating.

Burial was in the Senath cemetery under direction of McDaniel Funeral Service of Senath.

Pallbearers were Ken Sikes, Mike Lemons, Richard Cummins, Gerald Gentry, Jr., Jerald Parker and Travis Gaylean.

Gracie Mears

Gracie Mears, 88, of Paragould, Ark., formerly of Rives, Mo., died Friday, Nov. 23, 2001 at Arkansas Methodist Hospital in Paragould.

Visitation will begin at noon today, Sunday, Nov. 25, in the McDaniel Funeral Service Chapel in Kennett.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today in the McDaniel Chapel with the Rev. Bill Fox officiating.

Burial will be in the Memorial Gardens cemetery in Kennett.

Michael Patterson Michael James Patterson, 38, of Phoenix, Ariz. and formerly of Malden, Mo., died Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2001, at his residents.

Arrangements are incomplete with Bradshaw Funeral Home of Malden.

Sophia Blanton

Sophia Lorraine Blanton, 82, of Malden, Mo., died Saturday, Nov. 24, 2001, at Three Rivers Healthcare Noth Campus in Poplar Bluff, Mo.

Born Oct. 28, 1919, in Milwaukee, Wis., daughter of the late Joseph and Anna Propokowicz Markiewizc, she was a homemaker , a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church in Malden, a member of St. Ann's Alter Society and former president of the Ladies Culture Club in Malden.

On Jan. 22, 144, in Milwaukee, she married Gillard Hayden "Giz" Blanton, who preceded her in death on July 31, 2000.

Survivors include one daughter, Kathleen B. Walker and husband, Harold G., of

Warrenville, Ill; one sister, Marie Palm; two grandsons, Matthew and Lucas and several nieces.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. today, Tuesday, Nov. 27, at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Malden with Father Glenn Eftink officiating.

Burial was in the Park cemetery at Malden.

Landess Funeral Home of Malden was in charge of arrangements.

Bobby Clay

Bobby Joe Clay, 56, of Hayti, Mo., died Thursday, Nov. 22, 2001, at the Pemiscot Memorial Hospital in Hayti.

Born Nov. 3, 1945, in Hayti, son of the late George and Hester White Clay, he was a farmer.

On March 12, 1966, he married Barbara Kelley, who survives of the home.

Survivors also include one son, Calvin Clay, of Jefferson City, Mo.; one daughter, Lahoma Clay, of Hayti; one grandson, Anthony Fruhling, of Caruthersville, Mo.; one granddaughter, Caitlin Mayberry, of Hayti; two brothers, Cotton Clay, of Braggadocio, Mo. and Tom Clay, of Louisiana and two sisters, Katie George, of Portageville, Mo. and Janie Hawks, of Tulare, Calif.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles and Bill Clay and one sister, Willie Tilmon.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 25, at the John W. German Funeral Home Chapel in Hayti with the Rev. Michael Hance officiating.

Burial was in the Woodlawn cemetery at Hayti.

Pallbearers were Ricky, Daniel and James Allen Smith, Jerry Clay and Jim and Joe Tilmon.

Mae Clifford

Mae Louise Clifford, 74, of Holcomb, Mo., died Saturday, Nov. 24, 2001, at her residence.

Born December 9, 1926, daughter of the late Bill and Lucille Smothers Seawright, she was retired from the Kennett hospital and a member of the Maple Grove General Baptist Church in Holcomb.

She married James Cunningham Clifford in Piggott, Ark., who survives of the home.

Survivors also include two daughters, Peggy Louise Clifford Baremore and husband, J.J., of Albuquerque, N.M. and Mary Elaine Clifford Ray and husband, Willis, of Holcomb; two sons, Jimmy Wayne Clifford, of Albuquerque and William "Bill" George Clifford and wife, Loretta, of Poplar Bluff, Mo.; four granddaughters, Debbie Buchanan, of Clayton, N.C., Margo Ray, of Cordova, Tenn., Loretta Perea, of Albuquerque and Leah Clifford, of Poplar Bluff; one grandson, J.C. Clifford, of Poplar Bluff; two sisters, Sue Fenton, of Imaly City, Mich. and Maggie Simon, of Davison, Mich. and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 26, at the Landess Funeral Home Chapel in Campbell, Mo. with the Rev. James Cowsert officiating.

Burial was in the Stanfield cemetery at Clarkton, Mo.

Jewell Cook

Jewell Cook, 81, of White Oak, Mo., died Friday, Nov. 23, 2001, at Twin Rivers Regional Medical Center in Kennett.

Born Nov. 7, 1920, in Kennett, he was the son of the late Jonathan J.C. and Birdie Limbaugh Cook.

On Dec. 8, 1953, he married Betty Wood, who survives of the home. Survivors also include one son, Tommy Cook, of Kennett; one daughter, Jackie Wright and husband, Steve, of Holcomb, Mo.; one brother, Mason Cook, of Kennett; one sister, Betty Jo Davis, of Flint, Mich.; four grandchildren, Becky Winters, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., John Wright, of Holcomb and Riley and Jacy Cook, both of Kennett and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Gracie Cook, Gladys Luna and Frieda Snipes.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 26, at the McDaniel Funeral Home Chapel in Kennett with the Rev. Gary Gelsinger officiating.

Burial was in the Oak Ridge cemetery at Kennett.

Pallbearers were Buford, Allen and Hubert Snipes, Jon and Junior Cook and Jim Davis.

Ardell Harris

Ardell "Bud" Harris, 75, of Hillsboro, Mo., formerly of Poplar Bluff, Mo., died Saturday, Nov. 24, 2001in Pevely, Mo.

Born Nov. 24, 1926, in Piggott, Ark., he was a die bender for the shoe industry and of the Pentecostal faith.

On March 30, 1948, in Piggott, Ark., he married Evelyn Juanita Harris, who preceded him in death on Dec. 31, 2000.

Survivors include one son, Jim Harris and wife, Kathleen, of Pevely; one daughter, Patricia DeClue and husband, Kenny, of Poplar Bluff; five grandchildren, Brian and Daniel DeClue and Keith, Tina and Brenda Harris and two great-grandsons.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Debbie Harris; one grandson, Kenneth Patrick DeClue; one great-granddaughter and a twin sister, Ardella Hoffman.

Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m. today, Tuesday, Nov. 27, at the Landess Funeral Home Chapel in Campbell, Mo., with the Rev. W.C. Parkey officiating.

Burial was in the Elder cemetery at Campbell.

Daniel Houston

Daniel Harold Houston, 92, of Kennett, died Saturday, Nov. 24, 2001, at the Heritage Nursing Center in Kennett.

Born Oct. 2, 1909, in Holcomb, Mo., son of the late William Henry and Mary Alva Thornsberry Houston, he was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in WWII and worked in the auto body repair business.

He married Daisey Luther, who preceded him in death. He later married Thelma Grogan, who survives of the home.

Survivors also include two step-daughters, Barbara Padgett, of Sun City, Ariz. and Peggy Gervais, of Flint, Mich.; one brother, W.H. "Dub" Houston, of Kennett; several nieces and nephews and close friends, Clayton Lightfoot and Bob Winston, both of Kennett.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Molly Houston; one brother and three sisters.

Graveside services were held at 10 a.m. today, Tuesday, Nov. 27, at the Stanfield cemetery in Clarkton, Mo. with the Rev. Bill Fox officaiting.

McDaniel Funeral Home of Kennett was in charge of arrangements.
