Gertrude Cunningham

Gertrude Cunningham, 84, of Cardwell, Mo., died Monday, May 26, 2003, at Arkansas Methodist Hospital in Paragould, Ark.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete with the McDaniel Funeral Home of Arbyrd, Mo.

Elsie Hamilton

Elsie Hamilton, 93, of Granite City, Ill., formerly of Hayti, Mo., died Saturday, May 24, 2003, at her residence.

She was born Dec. 1, 1909, in Tuscaloosa, Ala.

She married Worth Harden Hamilton, who preceded her in death on March 15, 1984. She was also preceded in death by two daughters, Elaine Hamilton and Maggie Fourcauit.

Survivors include two sons, W.E. Hamilton, of Granite City and Gilford Hamilton, of Poplar Bluff, Mo.; two daughters, Linda Gilley, of Granite City and Ruby Varner, of Caseyville, Ill.; one sister, Faye, Tinon, of Granite City; 26 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 28, at the Bradshaw Funeral Home in Hayti.

Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 28, at the Woodlawn cemetery in Hayti. with the Rev. Mike Melton officiating.

Sam Newman

Sam Newman, 67, of Senath, Mo., died Sunday, May 25, 2003, at his residence.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. today, Tuesday, May 27, at the McDaniel Funeral Home in Senath.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 28, at the Senath Assembly of God with the Revs. Brian Johnson and Wayland Tom officiating.

Burial will follow in the Senath cemetery.

Sylvia Samples

Sylvia Marie Samples, 88, of Kennett, formerly of Holcomb, Mo., died Friday, May 23, 2003, at the Heritage Nursing Center in Kennett.

Born Feb. 21, 1915, in Paragould, Ark., daughter of the late Frank and Susie Songer Smith, she was a member of the Maple Grove Baptist Church in Holcomb.

On Dec. 10, 1931, she married Tom Wilburn, who preceded her in death on March 25, 1965. She later married Everett Samples on Aug. 20, 1966. He preceded her in death on March 1, 1993. She was also preceded in death by one son, Raymond Wilburn; one daughter-in-law, Imogene Johnson Wilburn and one step-son, Wencil Samples.

Survivors include two daughters, Betty Coleman, of Holcomb and Alice Fuller and husband, Jim, of Kennett; one step-daughter, Brenda Dormeyer and husband, Paul, of Wildwood, Mo.; three brothers, Carl and D.C. Smith, both of Albuquerque, N.M. and Cecil Smith, of Mountain View, Mo.; one sister, Goldie Young, of Kennett; six grandchildren, Pam Wilburn, of Albuquerque, Gary Goleman, of Holcomb, Mike Coleman, of Piggott, Ark., Karen Cash, of Fenton, Mo., Roy Fuller, of Louisville, Ky. and Tony Fuller, of Reston, Va. and eight great-grandchildren, Amandi and Staci, of Holcomb, Eric and Ashley, of Piggott, Jessica, of Fenton and Alecia and Megan, of Louisville.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, May 26, at the McDaniel Funeral Home Chapel in Kennett with the Rev. Lonnie Mittag officiating.

Burial was in the Memorial Gardens cemetery at Kennett.

Pallbearers were Terry Weaver, Don Robertson, Bud Jordan, Allan Young, Charles Wilson and Charles Fuller.

Honorary pallbearers were Lewis Meriweather, Bill Crane and Don Watson.

Memorials may be made to the Maple Grove Baptist Church in Holcomb.

Jay Slay

Jay Slay, 26, of Tallapoosa, Mo., died Thursday, May 22, 2003, near Caruthersville, Mo.

Born July 28, 1976, in Bartow, Fla., son of Peggy Whittington Slay, of Tallapoosa and Henry Jacob Slay, of Winter Haven, Fla., he was an employee of Maverick Tube, in Blytheville, Ark. and he attended the Assembly of God Church.

Survivors also include one daughter, Allison Nicole Caldwell, of Tallapoosa; two sons, Tyler Scott Stultz, of Campbell, Mo. and Dakota Blaze Babb, of Portageville, Mo. and two brothers, Adam Matthew Thurman and Jesse Michael Thurman, Jr., both of Tallapoosa.

He was preceded in death by his step-father, Jesse Thurman, Sr

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. today, Tuesday, May 27, at the Landess Funeral Home Chapel in Malden, Mo. Burial was in the Stanfield cemetery at Clarkton, Mo.

Juanita Young

Juanita Francis Young, 76, of Clarkton, Mo., died Saturday, May 24, 2003, at St. Francis Hospital in Cape Girardeau, Mo.

Born March 18, 1927, in Arkansas, she was the daughter of the late Pleas and Pearl Warner McWilliams.

She married Edgar J. Young, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Hubert, J.T. and Edward McWilliams and one sister, Iola Alsup.

Survivors include one son, Terry L. Hartwick, of Scottsdale, Ariz.; two sisters, Helen Edwards, of West Palm Beach, Fla. and Shirley Crane, of Clarkton, Mo.; one gradnchild, Kerry L. Hartwick, of High Ridge, Mo. and one great-granddaughter, Lauren Hartwick, of Bonne Terre, Mo.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. today, Tuesday, May 27, at the McDaniel Funeral Home Chapel in Kennett with the Rev. Jerry Williams and Cleo Payne officiating.

Burial was in the Stanfield cemetery at Clarkton.

Pallbearers were Eddie Moore, Cleo Payne, Lester Rice, Roy Cossey, Jim Sanders and Kerry Hartwick.

Memorials may be made to the Tatum Chapel General Baptist Church in Holcomb.

Myrtle Adams

Myrtle Loretta Adams, 62, of Kennett, died Saturday, May 24, 2003, at the Pemiscot Memorial Hospital in Hayti, Mo.

Born April 2, 1941, in Risco, Mo., daughter of the late William and Margaret Byrum Lawrence, she was a homemaker and a member of the White Oak Baptist Church in White Oak, Mo.

On April 4, 1967, in New Madrid, Mo., she married Robert Adams, who preceded her in death on Nov. 18, 1994.

Survivors include four sons, Kenneth Peppers, of Bernie, Mo., Jerry W. Peppers, of North Port, Fla., Ricky Adams, of Blyth, Calif. and Allen Adams, of Kennett; one daughter, Patti Ross, of Kennett; four brothers, Marvin and Tim Lawrence, both of Kennett, Larry Lawrence, of Lubbock, Texas and Rick Lawrence, of White Oak; four sisters, Minnie Lawrence and Doris Grubbs, both of Kennett, Teresa Lawrence, of Dexter, Mo. and Barbara Elliott, of Malden, Mo.; 15 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. today, Wednesday, May 28, at the Bradshaw Funeral Home in Kennett.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 29, at the Bradshaw Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Cordell officiating.

Burial will follow at the Oak Ridge cemetery in Kennett.

Girtrue Cunningham

Girtrue Cunningham, 84, of Cardwell, Mo., died Monday, May 26, 2003, at the Arkansas Methodist Hospital in Paragould, Ark.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. today, Wednesday, May 28, at the McDaniel Funeral Home in Arbyrd, Mo.

Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, May 29, 2003, at the Trinity Community Church in Cardwell with the Rev. Kevin Knox officiating.

Burial will follow at the Cardwell cemetery.

Bennie Jackson Bennie Jackson, 61, of Kennett, died today, Wednesday, May 28, 2003, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau, Mo.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete with the McDaniel Funeral Home of Kennett.

Dean Parmenter

Dean Parmenter, 79, of Kennett, died Tuesday, May 27, 2003, at National Health Care in Kennett.

Naomi Trowbridge

Naoimi Rosetta Trowbridge, 84, of Steele, Mo., formerly of Hayti, Mo., died Thursday, May 22, 2003, at River Oaks Care Center in Steele.

Born Jan. 30, 1919, in Malden, Mo., daughter of the late Thurman and Nellie Burton Gaines, she was a member of the Hayti First Baptist Church.

On Oct. 20, 1934, in Bernie, Mo., she married Cecil Trowbridge, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by two sons, Bobby and Johnny Trowbridge and one sister, Inez Sikes.

Survivors include two sons, Ronnie Trowbridge and wife, Brenda, of Hayti and Gary Trowbridge, of Portageville, Mo.; one daughter, Shelia Wisdom and husband, Gale, of Jackson, Mo.; a daughter-in-law, Kaye Trowbridge, of Portageville; one sister, Carrie Quinn, of Bernie; six grandchildren, Leigh Ann Trowbridge, of Dyersburg, Tenn., Todd Trowbridge, of Caruthersville, Mo., Kara Woeltje and Jason Wisdom, both of Jackson and Anna Hall and Amy Cotner, both of Jackson, Tenn. and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Sturday, May 24, at the John W. German Funeral Home Chapel in Hayti with Dr. Mike Melton officiating.

Burial was in the Pemiscot Memorial Gardens cemetery at Caruthersville.

Pallbearers were B.A. Cross, Mike Curtis, W.T. Davidson, Dub Pate, Bob Simmons and Allen Taylor.

Girtrue Cunningham

Girtrue Ethel Cunningham, 84, of Cardwell, Mo., died Monday, May 26, 2003, at the Arkansas Methodist Hospital in Paragould, Ark.

Born Feb. 9, 1919, in Printiss County, Miss., she was the daughter of the late Francis and Girtie Lee Barnes.

She married W.T. "Dub" Cunningham, who preceded her in death on April 28, 1984. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, J.B. and J.W. Barnes and one sister, Addie Johnson.

Survivors include one daughter, Jo Ann Denton and husband, Bill, of Cardwell; two sisters, Zencie Rulo, of Poplar Bluff, Mo. and Shirley Drake, of Potosi, Mo.; four grandchildren, Jeannie Marie Mitchell, Peggy Ann Walker and Linda Darlene Nipper, all of Cardwell and Melinda "Mel" Denton, of Jonesboro, Ark. and 13 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. today, Thursday, May 29, at the Trinity Community Church in Cardwell with the Rev. Kevin Knox officiating.

Burial was in the Cardwell cemetery.

Pallbearers were great-grandsons, Brian, Billy and Bruce Smith, Daniel Cox, Gary Walker, Chris and Matt Nipper, Chad McCoy and T.A. Mitchell.

Honorary pallbearers were David Barnes, Charles Walker, Tommy Mitchell and Geroge Denton.

McDaniel Funeral Home of Senath, Mo. was in charge of arrangements.

Bennie Jackson

Bennie Jackson, 61, of Kennett, died Wednesday, May 28, 2003, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau, Mo.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, May 30, at the McDaniel Funeral Home in Kennett.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 31, at the McDaniel Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Dale Rickman and Don Emery officiating.

Burial will follow at the Oak Ridge cemetery in Kennett.
