James Estes

James Robert Estes, 64, of Caruthersville, Mo., died Sunday, Dec. 2, 2001, at his residence.

Born March 6, 1937, in Hardy, Ark., son of James Rowe and Jennie Gann Estes, of Caruthersville, he was a U.S. Air Force veteran, a member of the Temple Baptist Church in Caruthersville and was self employed in the construction business prior to his retirement.

On March 6, 1959, in Caruthersville, he married Janice Hudgings, who survives of the home.

Survivors also include three daughters, Morgan Janae Treece and Micalan Estes Anderson, both of Caruthersville and Cara Michelle Gardner, of Dunmor, Ken.; five grandchildren, Claressa Renee Anderson Nave, Jeffrey Sayre and James Dylan Treece and Jenifer Michelle and Cody Ryan Anderson; two great-grandchildren, Hannah Nicole Anderson and James Curtis Nave and two sisters, Rosa Lee Metzger, of Hayti, Mo. and Mary Virginia Shoaf, of Jefferson City, Mo.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4, at the Temple Baptist Church with the Rev. Jerry Harmon officiating.

Burial was in the Maple cemetery at Caruthersville.

Pallbearers were Billy W. Constant, Bill Broderick, B.A. Cross, Charles Moody, Robert Hundhausen and Jim Madison.

H.S. Smith Funeral Home of Caruthersville was in charge of arrangements.

Annie Graves

Annie Belle Graves, 82, of Sikeston, Mo., formerly of Risco, Mo., died Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2001, at Clearview Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Sikeston.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete with the Landess Funeral Home of Malden, Mo.

Billy Shavers

Billy Orlando "Charlie Brown" Shavers, 18, of Kennett, died Sunday, Dec. 2, 2001, at his residence.

Born Feb. 21, 1983, in Kennett, son of Linda Shavers Gross, of Kennett and Jesse Noland Dunigans, of Albuquerque, N.M., he was a senior at Kennett High School and a member of the Community Temple Church of God in Christ.

Survivors also include one sister, Jasmika Nicole Shavers, of Kennett; two brothers, James Napolen Brown, Jr. and Darius Tyawn Shaver, both of Kennett; his step-father, Maurice Gross, of Kennett; his step-mother, Ruth E. Dunigans, of Albuquerque; his grandparents, Leola Irving, of Hayti, Maxine and Hebert Brown and Annette Noland, all of Portageville and Bennie Faye Carmon, of Blytheville and his step-grandmother, Betty Shavers, of Hayti.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, at the Community Temple Church of God in Christ in Kennett.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, at the Community Temple Church of God in Christ with Pastor Luke Robinson officiating.

Burial will follow at the Homestown cemetery in Homestown, Mo.

Williams-Farr & Purnell Funeral Home of Howardville, Mo., is in charge of arrangements.

Carnell Sowell

Mary Carnell Sowell, 84, of Kennett, died Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2001, at the Heritage Nursing Center in Kennett.

Born Nov. 9, 1917, in Kennett, she was the daughter of the late Arthur Edward and Rosie Mae Evans Mills.

On March 28, 1936, she married Pleas Sowell, who preceded her in death on Feb. 15, 1994.

Survivors include one son, Bob Sowell and wife, Laurie, of Kennett; two granddaughters, Emily Dawn and Amy Elizabeth Sowell, both of Jonesboro, Ark. and three sisters, Julia Maxine Yadon, of Ardmore, Okla., Joyce Nutt, of Benton, Miss. and Carol Burns, of Homa, La.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Fred and Bud Mills.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, at the McDaniel Funeral Home Chapel with Bishop Les Jackson and Elder Short Walker officiating.

Burial was in the Memorial Gardens cemetery at Kennett.

Pallbearers were Elders Kingston, Strang, Endischee, Saunders, Siaosi and Christiansen.

Rev. Otis Allen

Rev. Otis Monroe Allen, 85, of Malden, Mo., formerly of Greenville, Ky., died Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2001, at Saint Francis Regional Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Mo.

Born Feb. 28, 1916, in Butler County, Ken., son of the late Sion Bass and Flora Mae Jernigan Allen, he was a U.S. Army veteran serving during WWII, retired from the Chrysler Corporation, retired Gneral Baptist Minister and a member of the Duvall's General Baptist Church in Greenville.

On Sept. 18, 1943, in Muhlenberg County, Ky., he married Ruby Nell Luckett, who survives of the home.

Survivors also include two daughters, Judy Cowsert and husband, Jim and Barbara Coons and husband, Jack, all of Malden; three sons, Darrell Allen, of Belton, Ky., Wayne Allen, of Louisville, Ky. and Rick Allen, of Malden; three sisters, Martha Cobb, of Los Alamos, N.M., Ruth McDonald, of Greenville and Edna Shamblin, of Arab, Ala.; seven grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Adren, Arthur, Sion Lee and Andrew B. Allen and three sisters, Grace Jernigan, Nora Maxberry and Anna McDonald.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, Thursday, Dec. 6, at the Landess Funeral Home Chapel in Malden and from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7, at Gary's Funeral Home in Greenville.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, at the Duvall's Chapel General Baptist Church in Greenville with Bro. Ken Miller officiating.

Burial will follow at the Evergreen cemetery in Greenville.

Marjorie Bentley

Marjorie Bentley, 88, of Lapeer, Mich., formerly of Kennett, died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2001, at her residence.

Born Aug. 7, 1913, she was the daughter of the late Louie and Clara Hunt Stier.

On May 9, 1935, she married William J. Bentley, who preceded her in death on March 22, 1977.

Survivors include two daughters, Sandra J. Fagan, of Flint, Mich. and Sonya K. Newman, of Kennett; one son, William J. Bentley, of Holland, Mich.; two granddaughters, Melissa K. Calvert, of Flushing, Mich. and Jennifer Newman Gurley, of Kennett and four great-grandchildren, Collette and Mallory Calvert, of Flushing and Carlee Kay and Caleb George Gurley, both of Kennett.

A memorial service will be held in Lapeer in Janaury, 2002.

Jimmy Bogle

Jimmy Bogle, 44, of Kennett, died Thursday, Dec. 6, 2001, at his residence.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete with the McDaniel Funeral Home of Kennett.

Beatrice Chamberlain

Beatrice Chamberlain, 96, of Kennett, died Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2001, at Twin Rivers Regional Medical Center in Kennett.

Larry Wayne Clark, 44, of Caruthersville, Mo., died Satrday, Dec. 1, 2001, in Memphis, Tenn.

Born Feb. 1, 1957, in Hayti, Mo., son of Doris Jarred, of Caruthersville and the late J.C. Clark, he was a welder at the shipyard in Caruthersville.

Survivors also include two sisters, Carol McPhail, of Hayward, Mo. and Mona Guy, of Caruthersville and other relatives.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5, at the Jesus Name Tabernacle Church in Caruthersville with the Rev. Dale Dormer officiating.

Burial was in the Maple cemetery at Caruthersville.

John W. German Funeral Home of Hayti was in charge of arrangements.

Virgie Dinwiddle

Virgie Dinwiddle, 86, of Caruthersville, Mo., died Sunday, Dec. 2, 2001, at the National Health Care Center in Kennett.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, at the Progressive Church of God in Christ in Caruthersville with Elder Roosevelt Martin officiating.

Burial will follow at the Morgan Ridge cemetery in Caruthersville.

Bradshaw-Osburn Funeral Home of Hayti, Mo., is in charge of arrangements.

Don Kessinger

Don Kessinger, 48, of Campbell, Mo., died Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2001, at Campbell.

Born Jan. 1, 1953, in West Plains, Mo., son of Florence Elizabeth Caplinger Kessinger, of West Plains and the late Raymond Mack Kessinger, he was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, a mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service and co-owner of Ms. Henry's Restaurant. He was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include two sons, Matt and Heath Kessinger, both of Campbell; seven sisters, Mary Beth Marsh, of West Plains, Hetta Bivens, of Sherwood, Ark., Linda Wells, of Monticello, Ark., Bonnie Milam, of Bauxite, Ark., Debbie Newby and Anna Lisemby, both of White Hall, Ark. and Ginger Chambliss, of Star City, Ark. and one brother, David Kessinger, of White Hall.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Guy Wayne Kessinger.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, Thursday, Dec. 6, at the Landess Funeral Home in Campbell.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 7, in the Rose Chapel at Robertson-Drago Funeral Home in West Plains with the Rev. Richard Wright officiating.

Burial will follow with full military rites at the New Liberty cemetery in West Plains.

Rachel Kirby

Rachel Kirby, 88, of Kennett, died Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2001, at National Health Care Center in Kennett.

Fannie Miller

Fannie Miller, 92, of Senath, Mo., died Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2001, at Twin Rivers Regional Medical Center in Kennett.

Elton Myres

Elton Myres, 72, of Kennett, died Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2001, at Moberly, Mo.
