George Beatty

George Washington Beatty, 60, of Hayti, Mo., died Sunday, Aug. 11, 2002, at Twin Rivers Regional Medical Center in Kennett.

Born Feb. 22, 1942, in Springville, Ala., son of the late Orville Henry and Eva Pauline Moody Beatty, he was a Vietnam veteran.

On Nov. 12, 1975, in Cape Girardeau, Mo., he married Judy Erwin, who survives of the home.

Survivors also include two sons, George Beatty, of Hayti and Layne Beatty, of Decatur, Ill.; three daughters, Ashley Beatty and Jennifer Hood, both of Hayti and Brenda Berta, of Ossining, N.Y.; six grandchildren, Heath and Hunter Hood, both of Hayti, Amanda, Elizabeth and William Berta, all of Ossining and Sarah Beatty, of Decatur; two sisters, Louis Tidwell, of Deering, Mo. and Betty Sue Freeman, of Blytheville, Ark. and two brothers, Orville Beatty, Jr., of Caruthersville, Mo. and Ellis Beatty, of Heber Springs, Ark.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Anna Lee Gill, Mamie Lou McBride and Nellie Beatty and one brother, Charles Beatty.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Aug. 14, at the John W. German Funeral Home Chapel in Hayti with the Rev. John Keel officiating.

Burial with full military honors were held at the Woodlawn cemetery in Hayti.

Pallbearers were Sgt. Lee Shaw, Spc. J.L. Miller, WOC Ashley Wischmann, Spc. Warren Eaves, Spc. Greg Latham and Spc. Jessse L. Southern.

Hurshel Hicks

Hurshel Lloyd Hicks, 81, of Malden, Mo., died Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2002, at John J. Pershing VA Medical Center in Poplar Bluff, Mo.

Born March 24, 1921, in Malden, son of the late Joe and Katie Hampton Hicks, he was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving in WWII and was retired from the Pepsi Cola Bottling Co. He attended the Nazarene Church in Malden.

On Aug. 16, 1962, in Malden, he married Maveline Collier, who survives of the home.

Survivors also include three daughters, Teresa Hicks, of Malden, Helen Kaye Jones and husband, Russell, of Dexter, Mo. and Pam Massie, of Sisseton, S.D.; two sons, Billy Hicks, of St. Louis, Mo. and Joe Hicks, of Kennett; eight grandchildren, Ryan, Ashley, Dana and Kortney Hicks, Richard and Susan Forshee and Tosha and Whitney Jones and two sisters, Lucille Elder and Mildred Brown, both of Sikeston, Mo.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Earl Houston Hicks and one sister, Myrtle Owens.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, Thursday, Aug. 14, at the Landess Funeral Home in Malden.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 16, at the Landess Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Don Wells officiating.

Burial with military rites willfollow at the Memorial Park cemetery in Malden.

Oneida Houston

Oneida Coon Stoker Houston, 82, of Senath, Mo., died Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2002, at St. Bernards Regional Medical Center.

Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 16, at the McDaniel Funeral Home in Senath.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, at the First Baptist Church in Senath.

Burial will follow at the Lulu cemetery in Senath.

Sherman McPherson

Sherman Andrew "Mac" McPherson, 55, of Lawton, Okla., formerly of Malden, Mo., died Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2002, in Lawton.

Born March 16, 1947, in Emily City, Mich., son of the late Pearl Dallas and Jenny Woods McPherson, he was a U.S. Army veteran. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with three Bronze Service Stars, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon with Numeral Two, Overseas Service Bars-2, Army Commendation Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 Device, Air Medal, Army Combat Medal-6 and Expert Rifle Medal. Following his retirement he worked a brief time for the Civil Service at Fort Sill.

On Jan. 7, 1965, he married Ann Adams, in Malden, who survives of the home.

Survivors also include one son, Phillip McPherson, of Copperas Cove, Texas; one daughter, Antoni (Misty) McPherson, of Lawton; one granddaughter, Meshelle, of Lawton; one sister, Mary McPherson Nelson, of Byron, Mich. and four brothers, James Prestage, of Riverdale, Mich., Cecil and Carl McPherson, both of Saginaw, Mich. and Doug McPherson, of Michigan.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, Thursday, Aug. 15, at the Becker Funeral Home in Lawton.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 16, at the Becker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with Apostle Roderick W. Jackson officiating.

Burial with full military honors will be held in Post cemetery at Fort Sill.

Ruby Merrell

Ruby Merrell, 89, of Madisonville, Ky., formerly of Nimmons, Ark., died Monday, Aurg. 12, 2002, at her residence.

Born Aug. 3, 1913, in Rector, Ark., daughter of the late Charles L. and Emma Spencer Nelson, she was a member of the First General Baptist Church in Madisonville.

She married Rev. Lloyd Merrell, who preceded her in death on April 4, 1981. She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Louise Taylor; one brother, Ted Nelson and one sister, Cleo Merrell.

Survivors include two sons, Lloyd Merrell and wife, Twyla, of Madisonville and Charles Merrell and wife, Cristina, of Chambersburg, Pa.; one brother, George Nelson, of Kennett; four grandchildren, Pam Lutz, Kim Weaver, David Taylor and JoAchim Nesseldreher and three great-grandchildren, Alexis Weaver, Jennifer Frederick and Melissa Taylor.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. today, Thursday, Aug. 15, at the McDaniel Funeral Home Chapel in Kennett with the Rev. Don Slatton officiating.

Burial was in the Woodland Heights cemetery at Rector.

Pallbearers were Steve, Scott and J.W. Taylor, Carroll Blanton, William Izmerian, Gerald Woolverton and Gary Gurley.

Memorials may be made to the Madison First General Baptist Church, 900 West Center Street, Madisonville, Ky. 42431.

Jimmy Nipper

Jimmy Nipper, 41, of Cardwell, Mo., died Monday, Aug. 12, 2002, at Jonesboro, Ark.

Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. today, Thursday, Aug. 15, at the McDaniel Funeral Home in Arbyrd, Mo.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 16, at the Trinity Community Church in Cardwell with the Rev. Kevin Knox officiating.

Burial will follow at the Cardwell cemetery.

Allie Pierce

Allie Juanita Pierce, 79, of Caruthersville, Mo., died Sunday, Aug. 11, 2002, at the Baptist Memorial Hosptial in Covington, Tenn.

Born Feb. 23, 1923, in Bogota, Tenn., daughter of the late Clarence Price and Hattie Elmer Childress Denton, she was employed at the Pemiscot County Memorial Hospital as a Dietary Supervisor and a member of the First Baptist Church in Caruthersville.

On Sept. 20, 1942, in Caruthersville, she married Eddie Sigmund Pierce, who preceded her in death on Jan. 13, 1988. She was also preceded in death by one sister, Mrs. James Sanford.

Survivors include one daughter, Mary Lou Bishop, of Munford, Tenn.; one son, Eddie Sigmund Pierce, Jr., of Caruthersville; four grandchildren, Eddie Shannon Pierce, of Sikeston, Mo., Monica Denise Pierce, of Hayti, Mo. and Jennifer Lynn and Nancy Jane Bishop, both of Munford and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14, at the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Ira Singleton and Dr. James Adams officiating.

Burial was in the Maple cemetery at Caruthersville.

Pallbearers were Roger Berry, Eddie Pierce, John A. Taylor, Don Childress, Gerald Sanford and Robert Bishop.

H.S. Smith Funeral Home of Caruthersville was in charge of arrangements.

Jane Todd

Jane Ann Todd, 61, of Ferris, Texas, died Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2002, at her residence.

Born Dec. 30, 1940, near Sikeston, Mo., she was the daughter of the late James and Ocie Clements.

She married Joe Todd, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Leado, W.A. and D.C.

Survivors include one son, Tony Todd, of Waxahachie, Texas; four brothers, Bill Clements, of Hempstead, Texas, Ernest Clements, of Gidding, Texas, Bill Clements and wife, Dell, of Ferris and Calvin Clements and wife, Sharon, of Biggers, Ark.; 12 nieces and 11 nephews.

Funeral services were held at 9 a.m. today, Thursday, Aug. 15, at the Green Funeral Home in Ferris with the Rev. Liza Swayze officiating.

Burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 16 in the Memorial Gardens cemetery at Kennett.

Jeffrey Tucker

Jeffrey G. Tucker, 39, of Fort Walton, Fla., formerly of Senath, Mo., died Saturday, Aug. 10, at Crestview, Fla.

Born May 26, 1963, in Kennett, son of George Tucker, of Senath and the late Rosie Aline Harmon Tucker, he was an electrical engineer with the federal government at Eglin Air Force Base and a member of the First Baptist Church in Niceville, Fla.

Survivors include his father and step-mother, George and Deronda Tucker, of Senath; one brother, Billy "Butch" Tucker and wife, Brenda, of Senath; two sisters, Deborah Finley and husband, Wes, of Poplar Bluff, Mo. and Cheryl Tucker Loewe and husband, Kris, of Glen Carbon, Ill; two nieces, Amy and Hannah and two nephews, Joshua and Caleb.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Harmon and Mr. and Mrs. L.F. Tucker.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. today, Thursday, Aug. 15, at the First Baptist Church in Senath with the Rev. Dale Rickman officiating.

Burial was in the Memorial Gardens cemetery at Kennett.

Pallbearers were Mike Masters, Marty Miller, Robert Allen Deck, Bill Lewis, Tomy Lynn Jones and Jack Bailey.

McDaniel Funeral Home of Senath was in charge of arrangements.

Jackie Wimberley

Jackie Wimberley, 44, of Arbyrd, Mo., died Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2002, at her residence.

Born Aug. 20, 1957, in Hornersville, Mo., she was the daughter of Frank McMinn, of Arbyrd and the late Euva Ann McMinn.

On July 25, 1975, in Arbyrd, she married Jerry Wimberley, who survives of the home.

Survivors also include two sons, Mitchell Lee Flatt and Jeremy Lee Wimberley; two daughters, Jerica and Jaclyn Wimberley; two brothers, Johnny and Ricky McMinn, both of Arbyrd; one sister, Ronnie Hollis, of Arbyrd and two grandchildren, Trenton Lee Flatt and Jarrett Lee Wimberley.

Graveside services were held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14, at the Lulu cemetery with the Rev. Vernon Purser officiating.

Pallbearers were Jim Ward, Mike Anstiss, Bill Wagner, Kenny Finley, Mitchell Latting and Dale Wicker.

McDaniel Funeral Home of Arbyrd was in charge of arrangements.
