Lesa Harris

Lesa G. Harris, 40, of Kennett, died Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2002, at Twin Rivers Regional Medical Center in Kennett.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. today, Wednesday, Oct. 23, at the McDaniel Funeral Home in Kennett.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 24, at the McDaniel Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bill Fox officiating.

Burial will follow at the Memorial Gardens cemetery in Kennett.

Willard Middleton

Willard Middleton, 92, of Cape Girardeau, Mo., died Monday, Oct. 21, 2002, at the Missouri Veteran's Home in Cape Girardeau.

Born July 2, 1910, in Gideon, Mo., son of the late Ernest and Elizabeth Launius Middleton, he was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in WWII where he received two Bronze Stars, a Silver Star, a Purple Heart and a Good Conduct Medal. He was retired from Cerro Brass and Copper.

Survivors include one brother, Robert Plummer, of Bloomfield, Mo.; one nephew, Robert Plummer, of St. Charles, Mo. and one niece, Joyce Sanders, of Dexter, Mo.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, Wednesday, Oct. 23, at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 24, at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Everett Bishop officiating.

Burial will follow at the Hagy cemetery in Dexter.

William West

William Destal West, 70, of Burlington, Wash., formerly of Arbyrd, Mo., died Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2002.

Born Sept. 2, 1932, in Arbyrd, he was the son of the late Elmer and Mary Lou West.

Survivors include one sister, Vera Pollard, of Platte City, Mo.; two brothers, Elmer and Donald West, of Arbyrd; two sons, of Burlington and two daughters, of Burlington.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24, at the Lulu cemetery in Senath, Mo.

Eddie Cagle

Eddie C. "Sonny" Cagle, 65, of Wardell, Mo., died Thursday, Oct. 17, at Methodist Hospital-North in Memphis, Tenn.

Born March 24, 1937, in Kennett, son of the late Rev. James Edwin and Julia Imogene Compton Cagle, he was a U.S. Navy veteran, a member of the Word of Victory Church and a member of the Antique Kar Klub.

Survivors include his wife, Wanda Cagle, of Wardell; three children, Eddie Clarence Cagle, Jr., of Pascola, Mo., Dennis Gregory Cagle, of Piggott, Ark. and Cheryl Glass and husband, Willis, of Bragg City, Mo.; four step-children, Tracey Mohdzain and husband, Zaloy, of Cape Girardeau, Mo., Tammy Droege, of Florissant, Mo., Peter Newcomb and James Fourthman, both of Wardell; one brother, Jimmy Dale Cagle, of Mayfield, Ky.; four grandchildren and five step-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 21, at the Word of Victory Church in Portageville, Mo. with the Rev. Reginald Grant officiating.

Burial was in the Woodlawn cemetery at Hayti, Mo.

John W. German Funeral Home of Hayti was in charge of arrangements.

Jean Golden

Jean Riddick Golden, 73, of Steele, Mo., died Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2002, at her residence.

Born July 4, 1929, in Cooter, Mo., daughter of the late John Z. and Carrie McClure Riddick, she was a homemaker and of the Church of Christ faith.

She married Mac Golden, who survives of the home.

She was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters.

Survivors include two sons, Richard Golden, of Caruthersville, Mo. and Steve Golden, of Steele; two daughters, Deborah K. Burton, of Steele and Carol D. Golden, of Blytheville, Ark.; one brother, Douglas Riddick, of Portageville, Mo.; eight grandchildrren and four great-grandchildrren.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, Thursday, Oct. 24, at the Bradshaw-Powell Funeral Home in Steele.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 25, at the Bradshaw-Powell Funeral Home Chapel with John Mundy officiating.

Burial will follow at the Mt. Zion cemetery in Steele.

Lesa Harris

Lesa Gayle Harris, 40, of Kennett, died Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2002, at Twin Rivers Regional Medical Center in Kennett.

Born Oct. 14, 1962, in Kennett, she was the daughter of James Vernon Stone, of St. Louis, Mo. and the late Vonda Faye Wilcoxson Smothers.

Survivors include her father, James Vernon Stone and wife, Regina, of St. Louis; stepfather, Robert Smothers, of Kennett; one daughter, Natasha Nicole Harris, of Kennett; two brothers, Mike Stone, of St. Louis and Kevin Stone, of Kennett; one step-brother, Royce Smothers, of Bernie, Mo. and one uncle, Glenn Wilcoxson, of Kennett.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. today, Thursday, Oct. 24, at the McDaniel Funeral Home Chapel in Kennett with the Revs. Bill Fox and Don Slatton officiating.

Burial was in the Memorial Gardens cemetery at Kennett.

Pallbearers were Daryl, Gary and Doug Wilcoxson, Royce Lee Smothers and Mike and Kevin Stone.

Honorary pallbearers were Rod and Ron Wilcoxson, Rob Sharp and Brandon Brewer.

Walter Hinze

Walter Eugene Hinze, 63, of Hayti, Mo., died Friday, Oct. 18, 2002, at Cleveland, Texas.

Born Aug. 19, 1939, in Parma, Mo., son of the late Nelson and Nell Johnson Hinze, he was a truck driver.

Survivors include his wife, Genevieve Hinze, of Hayti; one daughter, Angela Boyer and husband, Ron, of Dyersburg, Tenn.; four step-children, Kenny Gullett, of Cape Girardeau, Mo., Russell Hall and wife, Tammy, of Hayti, Terri Williams and husband, Jerry, of Dyersburg and Kristi Hall and husband, Ricky, of Caruthersville, Mo.; one sister, Shirley Pate and husband, Kenneth, of Fredericktown, Mo. and 10 grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23, at the John W. German Funeral Home Chapel in Hayti with the Rev. Kenny Lee officiating.

Burial was in the Maple cemetery at Caruthersville.

Pallbearers were Randy Tomlin, Lyndell and Steve Hall, Lonnie Hunt, Tommy Booker and Jim Sloan.

Wanda Hubbard

Wanda Jean Hubbard, 41, of Hayti, Mo., died Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2002, at Pemiscot Healthcare Systems in Hayti.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete with the Bradshaw-Osburn Funeral Home of Hayti.

Charles Pitts

Charles Alvin Pitts, 61, of New Caney, Texas, formerly of Pemiscot County, Mo., died Monday, Oct. 14, 2002, at his residence.

Born Nov. 16, 1940, in Portageville, Mo., son of the late Jay Ralph and Ila Dixie Lee Fisher Pitts, he was a school teacher and a pest control technician.

Survivors include five sisters, Doris Blough and husband, Ralph, of Risco, Mo., Violet Kimball and husband, Glenn, of Plaistow, N.H., Deloma Ramsey and husband, Bob, of Ballwin, Mo., Peggy Niemeier, and husband, Dan, of St. Louis, Mo. and Brenda Thompson, of Arnold, Mo.; two brothers, Calvin Pitts and wife, Carol, of Festus, Mo. and Jery Pitts, of St. Louis and a special friend, Betty Jo Yeary, of New Caney.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, at the John W. German Funeral Home Chapel in Hayti, Mo. with the Rev. Gene Lancaster officiating.

Burial was in the Dry Bayou cemetery at Hayti.

Pallbearers were Ralph Blough, Brett and Glenn Kimball, Don Niemeier, Mike Pitts, Bob and Randy Remsey and Jeff and Justin Thompson.

Lerlene Whitfield

Lerlene Elizabeth Whitfield, 94, of Oak Harbor, Wash., formerly of Caruthersville, Mo., died Friday, Oct. 18, 2002, at Home Place in Oak Harbor.

Born April 23, 1908, in Olive Branch, Miss., daughter of the late William and Nina Taylor Owens, she was a member of the Church of Christ in Oak Harbor, a member of the Ladies County Extension Club and a 4-H leader in Caruthersville.

Survivors include nine children, Opal Bourbon, of Hillsboro, Mo., Patricia Pirtle, of Counce, Tenn., Ronnie Whitfield, of Cabot, Ark., Barbara Bailey, of Oak Harbor, Jerry Whitfield, of Foxworth, Miss., Larry Whitfield, of Duck Hill, Miss., Virginia Quinn, of Caruthersville, Vetrice Vickers, of Jonesboro, Ark. and Ila Mae Whitfield, of St. Louis, Mo.; one brother, George Owens, of Caruthersville; 26 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.

She was prececded in death by two husbands, Charlie Bostic and Neely Howard Whitfield and four children, Frank Bostic and Carolyn Jo, Howard and Austin Whitfield.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23, with Noel Quinn, Jr. officiating.

Burial was in the Little Prairie cemetery at Caruthersville.

Pallbearers were Lance and Neil Floyd, Brandon, Stacy and Gordon Whitfield and Jerry Whitfield, Jr.

Honorary pallbearers were Harold, Darryl J. and David Pirtle and Glen Turner.

H.S. Smith Funeral Home of Caruthersville was in charge of arrangements.

Hallie Bounds

Hallie Belle Bounds, 91, of Steele, Mo., died Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2002, at River Oaks Care Center in Steele.

Born May 1, 1911, in Cooter, Mo., daughter of the late Monroe and Minnie Hurst Goodman, she was a homemaker.

She married Americus Napolean Bounds, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by two sons, Raymond and Houston Bounds and one daughter, Dorothy Crews.

Survivors include one daughter, Virginia Branch, of Paragould, Ark.; 14 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. till service time Saturday, Oct. 26, at the Bradshaw-Powell Funeral Home in Steele.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, at the Mt. Zion cemetery in Steele.

Irene Eddings

Irene Victoria Eddings, 63, of Chicago, Ill, formerly of Malden, Mo., died Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2002.

Born Jan. 29, 1939, in Poplar Bluff, Mo., daughter of the late Pershing and Willie Mae Hawes, she worked for theCook County Circuit Court and was a member of the Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church. She attended Central High School in Hayti, Mo.

In 1971, in Chicago, she married Bennie Eddings, Jr., who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by one son, Richard D. Hawes and three sisters.

Survivors include two daughters, Kimberly Eddings and Phyllis Bulls; one brother, Thomas Jenkins; three sisters, Doris Hawes, Carolyn Mathis and Lynnette Jenkins and four granddaughters, Kimberly and Dorthy Coleman and Jasmyn and Tiffanie Bulls.
